Summary: Elysia frowned at her vanity as she dug around in the top right drawer for her make-up.
The look in his eyes is saying to me,
"Let me help you all I can,
While I'm still in this world.
What will you do when your daddy's gone?"
And "you're daddy's little girl."
-"Daddy's Little Girl"; Faith Hill
Elysia frowned at her vanity as she dug around in the top right drawer for her make-up. It was getting too small for her; sitting at it was becoming uncomfortable for her long legs. And it looked too childish. Too pink. She still liked pink, but maybe something offset with more white, and maybe a bit of gold. That would be pretty.
Even though it was clear she had outgrown the vanity, Elysia couldn't quite bear to part with it yet. Her father had bought it for her, just before he died. She'd been too little for it then- her dad had intended for her to grow into it someday.
She couldn't keep everything he'd given her though, and Elysia knew it. Capping her rogue, she swept her gaze across the vanity. The childish toys and treasures would be given to charity, passed on to some other little girl. The bear that used to be bigger than her would stay, forever propped against whatever vanity she owned.
And her father's picture. She would always need that smile.
"Elysia!" her mother called from downstairs, "your friends are here!"
Elysia hastily applied her lipstick and blotted. Tonight was her first date. A double date, technically, but still her first date. Her best friend's girlfriend had a sister that was willing to come along as Elysia's date so the four of them could convince their parents to let a group of fourteen-year-olds out for dinner without parental supervision.
"Hurry up, Elysia!" Maria's voice echoed her mother's urgings. "They're waiting!"
"Coming!" she called back, quickly grabbing her shoes and slipping them on. "Wish me luck, Papa," she whispered, leaning down and kissing the picture on her vanity.
Her father smiled at her as she got up and ran down the stairs.
