After Death
Who: Schroedinger and Dorian
When: Day after K/B wedding
Where: Looking Glass Lake
Ratings: PG
Warnings: None
Summary: Now that things have started to calm down again, Dorian takes a trip to Looking Glass Lake to clear his mind(s). Schroedinger encounters him there and they talk.

Dorian had remained mostly puzzled, and fairly saddened, following his realization that he had been nonexistent for an entire day. There was no way of knowing what decision he would have made that resulted in that outcome, and that was what upset him the most. True, there were many things he could have done differently that would have kept him from being here today. And yes, technically, he was dead and didn't have much room to talk, but...

He'd never taken his lives for granted. Or his duty to his souls. But he was reminded for the first time in a long time how precious life was and how fleeting it could be.

Having been further reminded by Kain and Blythe's wedding yesterday, watching them marry while her pregnancy was clearly showing, he thought about life - the creation of it, the destruction of it. Such thoughts led him to take a walk early the next day, heading towards Looking Glass Lake - on foot, which was quite a feat for the mummy. He had a lot to think about these days. Much more than ever before.

Finding a flat stone, the mummy flung it into the water. It didn't skip. He didn't have the finesse. Instead, it parted the water with a heavy thunk, creating startled ripples in the water. A disruption of its flow. Of its order and nature.

How fitting.

Schroedinger was in very much the same boat as Dorian, being nonexistant on the day that the major decisions were affected. It wasn't his choice, per se, but if he wasn't needed to start the Millenium long war, then there was no reason for his creation in the first place. It was also a preview of what would come when it was all over, except there'd be so many more thoughts and presences instead of Schro's own, not hundreds or thousands of other minds and memories, but millions, maybe hundreds of millions residing in Alucard; and that would make Schroedinger not know who he was... then they'd, he and the vampire, both become nonexistant (sometimes, he wasn't so sure, however, if Major's plan would work, but Schro didn't have much say in it anyway).

Schroedinger said nothing to Yako, she was possibly asleep at the time when he chose to leave the house without so much as a word to anyone, when he vanished and reappeared in the twilight meadow, and began walking in a directiono, letting his head have much needed rest and instinct take control (well, with minimal interferance; he didn't chase after anything smaller or sick).

His head had been aching for what felt like months, in reality it was only two days or so. He was tired, so very tired, of wondering what he should do here, or what to look forward to at home. Yes, Schroedinger was a soldier, first and foremost, regardless of the order, he was supposed to carry them out without complaint (or not loud enough where Doc could hear) or much regard for his own safety (but that never mattered very much. After all, he was immortal in that sense).

Maybe that was why he was a little more sympathetic towards Dorian, after Schro found out that the mummy was the same as him on the day everyone had changed. A strange comadrie it was, being that the catboy attacked him once, but things change -- at least that's what he said himself when he was not far away from the mummy a bit too suddenly for his liking. Vell, speak of the devil, so they say...

Schroedinger arrived long enough to watch the stone part the water, his eyes tracking its movement along with the ripples. Schro smiled beside himself; knowing the reason why. He was an intelligent sort, very shrewd and, though his teammates couldn't fathom him as such, they more or less ignored him (which he preferred, to be honest). Very few took him seriously as someone who knew the ins and outs of a war (though he never could describe one as a strange dance at any era or size in time as this one) on either side, which was both a blessing and a curse at the same time.

Schroedinger's voice was serious, as he said to Dorian, "Great minds think alike, don't they? Und, if you didn't know by now, I von't harm you. I haff much to think about as vell," His hands raised slightly, palms facing the mummy to show he had no intention of harming him, not that he'd be too much of a threat anyway. What he had in intelligence far out-ranked his phyisical abilities. Schroedinger muttered the rest of his thought under his breath, "Like how to feel about nonexistance, for one..."

By the time Schroedinger was speaking to Dorian, the mummy was turned around, taking a hesitant step backwards to the water. It was true, he and Schroedinger had once fought one another and the Nazi catboy had taunted him, but things had changed. For the better? The mummy still wasn't sure. They connected on some levels, this recent incident involving their nonexistence being a step in the direction of a fair rapport since Schroedinger got him the koi fish for a gift at Christmas. Things were progressing.

But it had been some time since they'd actually met face-to-face.

Taking a harsh, low breath, his green eyes followed Schroedinger's hands as the young fellow indicated he was not a threat. His body eased up then, taking a moment to relax before replying.

"Mmmmmuch t-to think about, hummmm?" He asked, having not heard the last part of what the Niflheimer said, but trailing in that direction anyhow. "D-Did you...llllearn anything...m...more about wwhat happened? The other d-day? When you were..." nonexistent, useless, dead "...nnnnapping?"

Schroedinger's ears flattened against his head. Not as a threat, but as a sad expression.

"That's... one vay to put it. Napping," Schredinger nodded, not teasing or meanspirited tone of voice, but continued, "From what I've heard, it seems my assumption vas correct; it vas the major decisions of our lives, or something akin to life," Not-so-subtle hint Schro dropped, but he figured everyone would have figured it out; after all, Dorian and himself had been gone the entire day. "Other than that, I vasn't needed at home, so I vasn't made; Why make something if you don't need it, ja?" He mumbled as he looked away, and kicked absent mindedly at a rock, towards the lake.

"I assume the vedding vent vell? No one interrupted it?" He offered to change the subject for a moment, but didn't much mind if they went back to the strange day when they were both gone.

Nodding sadly, Dorian stepped away from the water, knowing full well that he was not going to find an enemy in Schroedinger. Rather, he took a seat on a nearby cluster of boulders, finding himself wearier than before. He then removed the little booties he wore when he took long walks, so stones and sand couldn't slip between his bandages. But any tight clothing - even if it was cushioned - was painful to him after a time.

"Yessss, I g-guess so..." He murmured. He caught the hint, but didn't say much to it. This wasn't something many people would enjoy delving into. "I think...mmmmy change...my change was sssimple. I d-did not...kill who I wwwwas supposed to...when I should hhhhave. And then I d-died."

Pulling a stray stone out from between his bandages, his eyes shot up nervously when Schroedinger mentioned the wedding. He - how did he know? Did Blythe or Kain tell him? Was he keeping contact with someone? He didn't think anybody would have mentioned it. It scared him to think that even if someone as neutral as Schroedinger knew, other Niflheimers could have, too.

"Nnnnno...no, nnnno innnterruptions. It went vvvery well. They were very happy." He smiled. Telling Schroedinger couldn't yield any bad results. Not if Schroedinger kept this between them. "They were sssad. Now they're happy."
