Summary: Henry shows Alessa his photography.

Henry had been a little unsure as to how, exactly, to lay out his pictures. There wasn’t much furniture in the room, but he’d utilized a few tree stumps. He wasn’t really used to showing his pictures, unless he was selling them. And even then he usually submitted them through the mail, not in person.

But he was happy that so many people seemed interested. He wasn’t good at starting conversations with people - or carrying them on, as his brief chat with Mr. Sunderland proved - but at least this was a way to break the ice.

He heard the knock on the door and stood, automatically wiping his pants to dust off any stray grass and running a hand through his hair to dislodge phantom feathers. He couldn't help but expect them to fall all the way.

He hoped Kamina wouldn’t mind that he invited someone over…. Well, he probably wouldn’t. He seemed like a nice guy, even if he was…boisterous.

With that last thought, Henry opened the door for his guest.

After Henry had invited Alessa over to view his photos, the young woman found herself there in a short time. A couple of knocks on the door, and the door was opened to her. She smiled at Henry, and asked, "May I come in?"

"Yeah, of course." Henry stepped back, moving away to let Alessa in. "There's not much furniture, sorry." Just the hammocks, really. Which were comfortable, but Henry had taken to sleeping on the grass. It felt like camping.

Or it did when there weren't feathers falling from the not-ceiling.

"Um. My pictures are over here. I have some from back home, too, if you wanted to see any of those. It's mostly just buildings...."

Alessa took a look around the room. She couldn't deny how beautiful it looked in here, and she almost wanted to run around the room. She restrained herself. She was here to look at Henry's photographs; not run around like a little girl.

She walked over to where Henry's photos were located, and examined them. The photographs were actually beautiful, and she smiled.

"These are some nice photograph's, Henry," she told him with a smile.

"Thanks." Henry scrubbed his hand through his hair, over the back of his head. It really shouldn't be so hard to just talk to someone.

"It's what I do, back home. But I like it, too. I mean, I don't just take pictures to sell them. I take them when I see places and things I want to remember." It was funny, really, how few pictures he'd ever taken of people, at least for his own collection. It was mostly just buildings, cityscapes and nature.

"These are the ones I've taken here. And I have some from back home, mostly local places."

Alessa looked up from the photos and looked at Henry. "Where did you live?" she asked him. Her tone of voice indicated that she was trying to remember if Henry had already told her.

"I'd like to see your other photos," she said calmly.

"Ashfield," Henry said, as he moved to gather his other pictures. "It's not a really big place, I don't know if you've heard of it. I lived there all my life. I've never traveled that far from it, really." He wanted to travel, though. See the world. And photograph it.

"I spent a couple of years in Mr. Sunderland's apartment building but...I moved out. I have a lot of pictures from there - Ashfield, I mean. And from towns around there. Oh, uh, here's a picture of the apartments." He held out the picture, juggling a shoe box full of photos as he offered it out to her.

He'd always liked the style of the building. He'd never seen another apartment complex in that U-shape before. It was the reason he'd checked into the 'apartments for rent' sign in the window. And then... well, he'd just felt like had to take the available apartment. He'd figured it was because of the interesting building design, but now he wondered.

"Uh, where are you from?"

Alessa took the photograph from Henry's hand, making sure to take it at the edges so as not to mess up the photo itself. She studied the photograph for a while. She liked the design in a way.

"It's a nice looking building," she said softly. "Ashfield's not too far from Silent Hill. Umm, Silent Hill's where I'm from,"

"Just a a little more than a few hour's drive," Henry said, quietly. "I used to go there a lot." And he'd always thought it was such a nice town. Pretty, with interesting history. But then... well, he'd learned what had happened if not in the town, around it. And maybe it hadn't all been true - could he really trust completely nightmare visions, strange notes from beyond the grave and other preternatural sources? - but he was willing to bet everything he'd learned had its roots in truth.

He wondered if Alessa knew anything about any of that...

But he wasn't going to ask.

"I'd offer to show you my pictures, but you probably don't want to see pictures of places you see everyday, huh?"

Alessa chuckled, "Well, it's been a while since I've actually seen Silent Hill. Seven years in fact, if you can believe that," Alessa sat down on one of the hammocks, dusting off her jeans in the process.

"Did you take any photos in Silent Hill?" she asked him, curiously.

"Oh?" Had she moved away? Henry decided sitting was a good idea, and set his box of pictures on the floor - ground? - and sat cross legged in front of the hammock. If it had been a while since she'd lived there, maybe she did want to see pictures.

"Yeah, when I was older I took some pictures. My parents took me when I was young a lot, and I kept going on my own after I moved out. I liked the look of the town. A lot of older buildings, and the churches are classic examples of gothic revival. Mr. Sunderland's really interested in Silent Hill, you know. He actually gave me a really nice picture of one of the churches there, when I moved in and he found out I liked photography." As he was speaking, he was shifting through his pictures. These were the ones he'd liked, but never framed or matted or done anything much with. They'd mostly sat in boxes in his closet.

"Uh, I think I have some nice shots of the lake..."

Alessa looked down at Henry. It had been so long since she'd been around anyone, and she didn't really want to ruin it. How could anyone handle her story? She simply smiled, and said, "Sometimes we get tired of where we lived, so we leave it behind,"

Alessa listened to him, intrigued by his story. "Did you get any photos of the Lutheran church? I vaguely remember that church, but I do remember it being a nice looking building,"

A pause, "Photos of the lake? Yeah, that'd be nice!"

"Yeah, Henry said, nodding a little. "I understand that." And sometimes the place you lived got tired of you. But he was sure whatever had caused Alessa to move hadn't been anything like what had caused him to move.

The Lutheran church... he was pretty sure he had at least one picture of it. He separated the pictures he'd taken of the lake and handed them up. Most were taken from above, capturing both the water and what could be seen of town across it. It was clear they had been taken on different days - some sunny, some overcast - and showed slightly different angles and natural frames.

"I'm, uh, not really organized," he apologized, sheepishly.

Alessa took the photos in her hand and went through them, her few strands of dark hair fell over her eye so she moved them out of the way with her right hand. "These are really nice, I really like the ones that were taken on a sunny day," she told him with a smile.

After she was done viewing the photos she handed them back to Henry.

"Thanks. It's a beautiful lake..." And he was glad she liked the pictures. Maybe she'd been feeling homesick. Or maybe not. But if looking at his photos made her a little happy, then he was glad. He didn't have much chance to make many people happy, after all.

"Oh, here, I think I found the church..." He had so many pictures of churches it was sometimes hard to keep them straight. He wondered if there were any churches around here. No, that would be ridiculous... wouldn't it?

"Huh."

Alessa took the photo of the church. She had always liked this church, mainly because it was a church not used by The Order. "I like this one too, you're good at this," She told him.

"Hmm?" she asked

"Oh, it's nothing. I just... I wondered if there were any churches here. But that'd be kind of silly, wouldn't it?" Henry shook his head. It was just an odd thought. One of those random ones that formed before he realized it was stupid.

"Uh, I'm glad you like the pictures."

"Actually there is," Alessa told him with a matter of fact tone to her voice. "There's Balkan Church, a church close to the amusement park, and another one on the island that's out on the lake,"

She took a look around the 'room', "This room's very nice looking," she paused, and then asked, "Do you have any other hobbies?"

Henry was almost glad he hadn't explained himself well, and Alessa assumed he was still talking about Silent Hill. That was slightly less strange than wondering if God's messenger had included churches in God's own...well, realm.

"Oh yeah, the amusement park." Henry remembered the park. And he remembered Eileen had had a stuffed animal of the park's mascot. "I went there when I was little. I don't think I ever went to any islands, though. Balkan Church, yeah. I think that's the church in the picture Mr. Sunderland gave me."

He paused a moment. She wanted to know about his hobbies? He didn't really have many... And certainly weren't many that were interesting. But they could only talk about Silent Hill and pictures for so long.

"Uh, well, I like cars. Classic ones, especially."

Alessa nodded her head, "Ahh, cars, I like some of them, but I never learned how to drive," She stood up from the hammock and stretched her arms above her head, and then sat down the grass.

"Oh." Henry wouldn't ask her why not. Plenty of people didn't learn to drive, for plenty of reasons. "I guess I don't drive much, actually." Pretty much everything was in walking distance or he could take the subway. At least around Ashfield. And he hadn't done much traveling since...

"I always wanted to get an old junk bucket, though, and restore it. I just never had a garage to keep one in. I wonder if there are cars around here? I've heard there's stuff beyond Asgard...."

Alessa thought for a moment, and then answered, "Maybe someday we should look around,"

Really she said that because she didn't like being confined, and if she could explore this place; then she was going to explore it.

"Hmm..." Maybe they should. He didn't really know what, exactly, was out there. But it couldn't be bad, could it? He knew that the other side was out there somewhere, but they wouldn't be very close by, would they? At least he didn't think so...

"I wonder if anybody else already has." Specifically, from the other side. What if it ended up giving them some sort of tactical advantage? Henry wasn't much of a soldier, really. He was pretty sure watching the History channel when he couldn't sleep didn't give him any insight into warfare or battle tactics, but... if they were going to be facing off in this realm, maybe it would be a really good idea to be familiar with it.

"I think that's a really good idea."

"Maybe they have, but I don't really pay much attention to what's going on," Alessa answered. Then she added, "I want to ask that angel if there's a place to get some art supplies," she was of course referring to Metatron.

She stood up from the grass covered ground, and brushed off her jeans with her hands.

"I try," Henry said, standing up as well. He wasn't quite so socially inept not to pick up on normal cues. When someone stood up, it generally mean they were ready to leave. And he certainly didn't blame Alessa - he hadn't exactly been offering stimulating conversation. "I think maybe it's a good idea to know what they're up to, and what they're like."

Art supplies? He had to ask about that.

"Uh, are you an artist?"

Ever since having to remain in that hospital bed for seven years, Alessa could never sit still for very long. She craved movement, the chance to move.

"I used to draw when I was little, and I'd like to start again," Alessa told Henry.

"Really? I sketch," Henry said, a bit eagerly. "Not very well, it's just something I do when I'm bored." He could only take so much television, after all.

"I bet Metatron can get you art supplies. He's really accommodating." And if Metatron could bring them here, Henry was positive he could scrounge up some art supplies for Alessa.
