Current mood: embarrassed
Entry tags:finished thread, frank, lina, rating: pg, setting: garden maze, strix

Who: Frank (Open to Asgard, despite Frank's attitude)
Where: Garden
When: Afternoon
Summary: Frank heads over to the garden.

Frank finally found the garden. The place was much more beautiful than he had expected. Then again, Miss Elliot had been impressed, but she... she had a pure soul and Frank thought she must just appreciate good things. But it really was gorgeous, with flowers blooming and trees with pleasant scents. Frank was no gardener but he was pretty sure all these plants didn't grow and bloom together in any place on Earth.

He found a small spade, and sat in a place off the path to shovel dirt into the tank. Frank hoped no one would actually come along and see him. He had never minded physical work of course but he was getting dirt on his pants and he knew he looked a little ridiculous. Besides, people already thought he was obsessed with this little lizard. But maybe that was better than having them think he was obsessed with his son, which was closer to the truth.

But right now he was starting to be pretty focused on this place. His discussion with Henry had unnerved him a little, because if whatever was behind this (The Almighty, supposedly, but who knew what that really meant, even on Earth?) could make all this in an instant then maybe it didn't really need any of them either. And that was a chilling thought all around. He would definitely find out all he could at the library later.

As he dug, a feather suddenly landed on his wrist, then another on his head. He'd noticed a few on the way over but had attributed them to a bird. Now it was obvious that they were falling out of the sky. This place just got stranger, didn't it? He picked a couple of feathers out of the lizard's tank. The thing was, it really was cute. And someone really might have stepped on it if he hadn't caught it.

Lina Inverse, sorceress supreme, beautiful genius, petite and ever-hungry young seventeen year old girl...was scouting the area around Asgard out of pure curiosity. While often coming across as a completely crazy, chaotic moron, Lina had two traits that made her extremely dangerous. One, her incredible intelligence. Two, her nonchalance at destroying a town or two to get what she wanted.

Lina was not, by any means, a peaceful, gentle girl. To those who knew her, it would have probably shocked them all to learn that she had been chosen. Likely she would have cast her fireball spell at them for their laughter.

Still, with a box of...cheese square things, she wandered around, nibbling on them as she checked out the area. It was incredibly important to know your surroundings - always.

Her attire was strange for those coming from a modern Earth time period. She looked like someone stepped out of a fantasy novel - a yellow t-shirt, dark red pants, a series of magical amulets on her body, extremely large and ornate shoulder guards complete with a cape. She even wore a black headband beneath her auburn bangs. And yet, most notably? She was extremely short, tiny, and was pretty small-chested, much to her dismay. It was a sore spot with her and always would be.

When she came across the garden and found Frank digging, she paused as she took a small bite of a cheese cracker and chewed, watching him with her large red eyes. "So, um, what are you doing?"

Frank looked up to see her. Someone had found him after all. "Oh... I... have this lizard." He picked it up and held it in front of her face, realizing a little too late that that wasn't a normal thing to do, especially to a young woman. He lowered his hand and shook his head a little.

"I'm just going to put it in a tank with dirt and no one will step on it and..." He hadn't realized how difficult it would be to speak face-to-face to someone new. And there were more important things to be talking about than lizards, too, but she had asked.

"And there are feathers!" he said finally. "All over the place. I think the weather here isn't normal either."

She raised an eyebrow and took another bite out of the chip as he continued to talk. When he was finally done, she peered up at the sky and nodded. "Yeah, well, it's a weird place. Pretty though."

This guy was weird.

She tilted her head and glanced at the lizard now that it was farther away and smiled. It was something she'd consider potential food before a pet, but to each his own. "So you like...pets, I guess?"

Frank looked up into the sky too and saw more feathers. He picked one off his shoulder. "I wonder where they come from? I mean, birds? Angels?"

That last sounded really off, he reflected. Except here maybe it didn't sound off at all. He'd been speaking with Metatron and that was a name he's only seen in his supernatural research before.

"It is pretty here. But I wonder who built it?" She probably didn't care any more than Mr. Townshend seemed to. But everything came from somewhere.

"And I suppose it is a pet. To be honest, I never really had one, at least not since I was a kid. They usually aren't a good idea in apartment buildings, especially mine. But I guess can take care of a tiny lizard OK. Do you like... pets?"

Lina glanced at Asgard, then the garden, and finally to the lizard once again. She didn't fight off the feathers landing on her - she didn't mind them much. "Pets are fine, but I travel everywhere, so I never got one," she thought for a moment and laughed. "Well, unless you count Gourry, because he's pretty much dumb enough to count..." She waved a hand. "Ah, well. But what do you mean, who built it? Do you mean the garden or the building? And what's an apartment building?"

"Well, any of it. Mr. Townshend seemed to think no one had to build it, and he's right too, but then again everything comes from somewhere. And gardens have to grow."

Frank couldn't express this very well. But he had a whole vision in his head of workers making this place for all of them and of them still being somewhere. But maybe Mr. Townshend was right and it didn't matter. Or maybe Metatron took care of all of it -- if it was the same Metatron it had enough power.

"An apartment building is just a big place with rooms for rent, sort of. I ran one in Ashfield but it wasn't nice like here. And they aren't so good for animals. One of the people who lived in mine had a cat that just disappeared and... well, never mind."

Frank felt the off feeling again, and gave a slight suspicious look into the trees. Then he shrugged.

"What is Gourry? A person?"

So an apartment building was like an inn. Why not just call it an inn? She shrugged mentally. "Yeah. He has the brains of a jellyfish though. Gourry's a friend of mine," she grinned. "As for who built this...honestly, I'm betting Metatron did. He seems to have that kind of power."

She followed his eyes to the trees though. "Something wrong?"

Frank nodded. "I used to see the name Metatron around when I was reading in the library, so... yeah, I think he could do it. But I'm used to things needing to be built. I can't help that."

He shrugged. "Wrong? Well, probably not. Something's... off... maybe. You never know what's going to happen around here." He changed his voice to a whisper... "Or who is where, you know?"

Frank didn't want to scare Miss Inverse and anyway he wasn't sure what was wrong. Maybe someone was where they shouldn't be... but things were pretty strange here all the time.

Well, obviously Miss Inverse didn't scare easily. But there was no point in making everyone think he was creepy... even creepier.

All round, it would be safer for more than one reason to change the subject.

"Do you miss him, then? Your friend? If he's not so smart, I hope he has other people to help him out when you're gone."

It didn't sound like she missed him much if she insulted him like that, but people didn't always say everything they meant.

"And you found some more food, at least."

Lina glanced around, not noticing anything strange that she could see. Still, she wasn't about to question the guy's observations. "Yeah, I miss him, but he'll be okay. We get split up sometimes, but it's never for too long. We'll see each other again. Besides, he'll probably end up travelling with our other friends...and even then, he's pretty capable. He might not have the sharpest brain, but he's an expert swordsman."

She glanced down at the box of food - the label Cheez-Its in bold orange - and grinned. "Yeah. These are delicious - it's like someone figured out how to make cheese crunchy!"

He spoke in a low whisper when he saw her look around. "Don't worry, Miss Lina. I'm sure it's nothing, and anyway we aren't telling secrets."

Then he raised his voice to a normal level again. "Well, as long as he can take care of himself. It sounds like you knew a lot of people back there." It was funny, thinking of other people like Miss Inverse and Miss Elliot missing all their friends... Frank didn't really have friends to miss, and one of the only decent people from South Ashfield Heights was actually here.

Frank smiled a little that someone who liked food as much as Miss Inverse was excited over crackers. "Yeah, Cheez-Its are all right. You should see if they have any Cheetos. You might like those."

Knew a lot of people? She supposed Frank was right. Gourry, Zel, Amelia, Sylphiel and everyone else...heck, even Xellos, though you could never fully trust him.

"Cheetos, huh?" she repeated the word, curious. She really wasn't accustomed to over half of the food she'd been discovering lately. "What're those like?"

"Well, they taste like cheese too, and they're crunchier I guess? They're not exactly known as fine food back home, but hey, if you like them!"

Frank would have felt a little guilty encouraging a kid to eat junk food, especially at her age, if it weren't pretty clear she'd eat anything anyway.

[OOC: No offense. I know Lina isn't a kid, but Frank is 64 XD]

"Ooh, neat. I'm going to go check and see if there is any. You...uh," she glanced at what he'd been doing before she interrupted. "Have fun with finding more dirt for your lizard and everything. I just have to see this thing you're talking about. Gotta go~!" she waved slightly and began to sprint back to Asgard. She was a determined little thing...especially when it came to food.

[ooc: No offense taken, and i'm very sorry about the delay with finishing this thread. I mean, Lina's only seventeen anyway. xD]

Frank couldn't'help smiling a little at her enthusiasm for Cheetos, and wondering what she'd make of an ordinary convenience store back home. Then he looked down at his dirty pants. He was going to get a weird reputation here pretty soon. But the lizard would be happy.

[OOC: Oh, I know I took a while too, so no problem. Sorry about that, too. For some reason I made a mistake and thought Lina was fifteen but she's very youthful-looking anyway... XD]

Strix had followed the old man to the garden after his conversation with Henry. She was now observing him intently from a tree at the edge of the garden. Lizard lizard lizard-Shut up. I am not eating it.

When the medieval looking chixor had entered the garden the feathers on the back of Strix's head stood up. Even her lizard fixation suddenly subsided as her instincts switched gears. Threat, the screamed, THREAT.

She refocused on this girl with force of an arrow.

[ooc| Just a gentle poke, but are you getting a player's permission when you do this in threads? They do say 'Open to Asgard' not 'Open', which would mean anyone would be free to take part.]
