A Bad Temper and a Short Fuse
WHO: Balam and Dr. Cox
WHERE: The Study
WHEN: After Cox's Meeting Request
RATING: PG
WARNINGS: Cox's colorful language and Balam's short fuse?
SUMMARY: Balam considers Dr. Cox's request sensible, so he makes his way to tell the doctor a little about himself. But how much to say, without giving more details of his life than he wants to? One doesn't want others to know their weaknesses, after all.

Balam wasn't against being reasonable. When he was calm, it was easy to grasp common sense and apply it where needed. What Balam to this day, despite all of his years, could not manage? Was keeping his dangerous temper in check when it was challenged. Oh, he tried. Sometimes he succeeded. It usually didn't last, if it happened at all...

And when Balam lost his temper, things got destroyed. Typical of a demon - but what are you to do when you want to be something else?

He dressed like a human. His khaki pants were neat, his loafers were brown, his gray vest and white oxford long-sleeved shirt buttoned. He was tall. His skin was a medium tan. He looked like a fighter playing dress up, however - his face was stern and his body was built for strength. Those were the normal details when it came to his body, however. The parts that made him a little easy to overlook, just like he liked.

What was hard to hide was the messy, firetruck-red hair that was natural. The only other parts of him were his slightly sharpened teeth - all of them were more like canines than anything else - and his eyes that he covered at all times with his sunglasses.

People who took off his sunglasses would suffer.

Still, Dr. Cox's request hardly seemed a threat to what he was, or what he was trying to be, as long as the doctor didn't pry too much. For that reason, it was easy for him to open the door to where Dr. Cox was waiting and close the door behind him, crossing his arms and scanning the room for the one he'd come to meet.

Balam would find Perry sitting at the large table in the middle of the room surrounded by open books taking notes. Hand written notes were a pain, but since he didn't have a laptop to use they would have to do. Still. A doctor could wish. He looked up as the other came in and he gestured to a seat not too far from him. He took a couple more notes, writing down the physical features he could note.

"Name and race?" He asked, pulling a book off the pile closer to him. No, Perry wasn't going to ask him to remove his sunglasses. What good would knowing the color of his eyes do?

"Name's Balam, race is fire demon," Balam said as he sank into the seat near the doctor. It probably wasn't necessary to say that he'd won a human body for himself, and that was why he was able to appear...somewhat normal. His body was a human casing, but his soul was still that of a fire demon. His real body was sleeping somewhere else, carefully hidden.

His soul was enough for his powers to remain, though it meant that his body healed more slowly. "I guess the only thing I can really say ta help is that my body is a bit more sturdy than a human's. I won't die from most injuries, but I won't recover very fast either...so if ya ever have to pick between people to treat, I can usually come last without any problems." He shrugged.

At that, Perry had to raise an eyebrow. He scribbled under Balam's name for a couple seconds.

'sturdy. Will survive a lot of wounds. Last in line?'

When he looked up, his eyebrow still raised, he pointed at the book closest to Balam and sighed. "Find your anatomy in that book for me, cause not everyone is bound to have the same insides." It would be easier for him to find it then Perry.

It didn't take Balam long before he found it and opened the pages, holding it up for the doctor to look at. "My body is, anatomically, that of a human. It's just a lot more durable and my natural body temperature is much higher than a human being's." He pointed to a few notes on the side of the images that said as much. Water would be fine, but it could sting when it was touching his insides at times.

Perry kept writing on his paper and took the book from the other, writing the name of the book and the page number down. He realized from looking at the page that he was going to have quite a lot of research to do before he would feel even close to comfortable to working with these people.

"Anything else I should be aware of? Are you allergic to anything? Anything else I should know?" This was going to be a very long day, he could already tell.

"Um, dripping water on my insides would kinda sting like a bitch?" Balam offered helpfully. "I mean, it's not like I can't deal with it, if you have to use water for something. But since ya asked. Um..." Was there anything else he could say?

He shook his head. "I can't think of anything else. Oh. Uh..." he scratched the back of his head. "If you do anythin' ta me involvin' water, you might want to be prepared for steam. It tends to happen. And setting me on fire is probably the best way to leave me if i'm injured and you don't have time to do anything for me." He shrugged. "Fire demon. Flame's don't really do anything except help." Unless they were from an especially stronger demon... But normal fire? No chance of pain.

That... went against everything medicine had ever told him to do. But if it helped when he needed it, Perry would just have to get a lighter and keep it on hand at all times.

"Alrighty then. Water bad, fire good. Got it. If that's it, then you're free to go. And if ya run into anyone else, send them in here, will ya?" He frowned again, looking at the page Balam had found for him. There were times Perry could be serious instead of sarcastic, and this sort of situation? Called for serious. Not sarcastic. Of course, Perry couldn't help but one jab. One small jab?

He made a shooing motion with his hand and a small noise to go with it.

Balam raised an eyebrow at the shooing motion, but he fought the retort and shrugged. Standing up, he muttered a small thanks to the doctor before heading out. "I'll make sure they come, if I see 'em."
