Paint the Town Red
WHO: Emerald and Sal
WHERE:  Niflheim, Bloodmire
WHEN:  Shortly after the initial orientation
RATING: PG-13/R-ish
WARNINGS: Blood and guts. Emerald and Sal being themselves.
SUMMARY: Emerald and Sal decide to fix up their room as well...

'Isn't this just peachy?' Emerald thought, as she and her new roommate made their way out of Niflheim to the Bloodmire. She swayed her hips and walked tall, her natural, prideful strut. 'I have the virginal room and must share it with this Sal. The latter is hot and quite sexy, but I can't tell their gender.' She stole another glance to her new friend. 'Not very impressed with me, either. Well, I'll just have to change that.'

Everything in Niflheim seem to creak and groan, which wasn't too surprising since the stairs were made of iron and the floors made of old wood that couldn't help but whine at every other footfall. Underneath her feet, the metal stairs seemed not too stable. She expected to come face-to-face with the resident ghost any minute. At the same time, the mansion did hold a certain charm with its winding hallways and sharp angles. One would never know what exactly what was around any corner in a place like this.

"So, what do you think of this whole tournament between Hell and Heaven so far?" she asked as they reached the entrance. While Emerald wasn't desperate for Sal to worship like her, it would be a lot less tedious if they could reach some sort of compromise. Politics now, sex later. Or maybe something else later. Like killing. "Waste of time? Exciting break in an otherwise boring reality?"

Beyond the door, the familiar coppery smell was already wafting through. She smiled, the predator inside her beginning to uncoil from its special place in her heart.

While Emerald's questions teased at Sal's temper from the very beginning, the raw scent of blood decimated any and all sour attitude from his body. He hadn't been around long, but he knew that he meant to make the most of every moment in Niflheim. Even if that meant sharing some of those moments with his sex addicted roommate.

Parting a couple of branches with his hands, Sal allowed Emerald a clear path. It was the 'gentlemanly' thing to do.

"Babe, I get to beat the living shit out of innocent people per request of Lucifer himself." Sal grinned slowly. "I don't think it could get much better than that, wouldn't you say?" It was a rhetorical question. However, slightly concerned that Emerald might bust loose in another strain of questions, he acted quickly: "Where you from?"

Emerald passed underneath the trees quite easily, being quite a bit shorter than dear Sal (and most people). She was glad that she switched out of her heels and into her knee-high boots - the ground was becoming swampy already.

"Earth," she replied simply. She liked the grin on Sal's face. That was the grin of someone who enjoyed hunting and murder very much. She could get along very well with someone like that. "In the dear ole' U.S. Which doesn't mean much to me, since I travel everywhere, wherever my next target is. Such is the life of a mercenary, anyway~"

Bright, sharp red cut across the landscape and the coppery iron smell increased greatly.

"Oooooh..."

Sal chuckled. "Earth, huh? Imagine that."

The world around them grew dank and red - what wasn't covered in blood at this point was reflecting it. They hadn't yet parted the branches to the actual mire itself, but the ground sank as they sloshed along, staining their boots. Trees drooped in entrails and bones, several dripping mercilessly on their heads. Sal was enthralled and was more than pleased to notice a similar expression on Emerald's face. Maybe he'd misjudged her...

"I can carry three or four of these dead fucks easy if I take male form. What about you - you gonna need help?"

"How thoughtful of you!" She almost giggled, but managed to reign in her glee. "I think if you grab three and I grab two, we'll have enough for our little 'home' make-over. Goodness knows these fucks are bloated with enough blood for a dozen rooms."

Emerald could feel a few drops of something fall from the trees onto her hair and face, but she didn't bother to clean up. There would be plenty of time for that later, and it was almost comforting to have such a shocking mass of death before surrounding her. It made life so much sweeter, knowing that not only was she was better off than these sad victims.

And would be one of the ones doing the victimizing.

She grabbed an arm of one body and dragged it from the lake. Then she paused and looked up. Movement caught her eye; it was a bit further off, but it was there. "Sal. I think we've got a live one."

Another splash followed, louder this time. "Or a dying one."

Following the sounds of the splashes and quivering, Sal pulled out a Glock and grinned. "Dead or alive, if it's moving, it's done for..."

Sal went so far as to step into the mire itself, uncaring of the slime and blood breaking against his leather suit. This was the thrill of it all - when there was no longer a chase, but a game of cat and mouse. But in a situation like this, where there was any number of mobile bodies under the surface, the line between cat and mouse was blurred.

"You gonna come in, or what?" Sal yelled over his shoulder just before an irate corpse sprang from the blood. With lightening speed, Sal turned back and shot the creature in the neck and it slid down into the water, gurgling. "Trust me, it's pretty boring."

While Sal had the protection of the leather suit, Emerald had the boots which didn't quite make it up to her leather mini-skirt. She hesitated for only a moment, to take out the three, thick razor blades hidden within her thick locks of hair. Then she followed Sal into the lake, blood pooling around her thighs and staining her skin.

Another corpse jumped out at them, like some morbid seal. Emerald took aim and sent her blades into the creature's throat. It dropped over Sal's kill without ceremony.

"You're right, no challenge," she sighed. Then she felt something tug at her leg beneath the surface. Her dagger flashed, pulled from only she knew where on her body, and stabbed the creature's head, which burst in brains and goo. "It wasn't even strong enough to pull me down."

A pang of appreciation suddenly swelled through Sal, and he was caught for a moment, wondering idly if he should compliment or insult her for suddenly being okay in his book.

He did neither.

Rather, he gathered the corpses they'd just 'killed' and dragged them by their collars up to the shore. He laid them one beside another as though they'd been gunned down by a firing squad. It brought about fond memories. Turning back, he glided into the blood, watching as Emerald made her way through the murky liquid. None others had emerged yet and he pondered if they were capable of the intelligence to know that moving would get them killed.

But he was wrong. Sal bit his lip, before yanking his gun back out. "Two behind you, sweetheart."

Without missing a beat, Emerald spun and slashed the closest across the throat. She noticed that for a moment that it had worn very old-fashioned military clothing before having to dodge the mouth of the second one. Apparently they had enough thought in them to think that they could gang up on her.

"Hah!" She then smashed her elbow against the poor zombie's gut before stabbing it in the heart.

The corpse fell almost gracefully into her arms. What a poor, dead thing. "Thanks for the heads-up, Sal-dah'ling."

Sal shrugged, stuffing his Glock back into its holster. Luckily, none of his bullets had been wasted in vain.

"No problem, pussycat." He waded out of the mire, and when on shore, began to toss two of the bodies over his shoulders. It took some situating, as they were so bloated with blood, but they soon settled themselves, quietly and without fuss. "Grab those two, will ya?"

The sooner they got back, the faster they'd have real fun.

Emerald placed one corpse over her right shoulder, and held the other by the waist with her left arm for balance. She congratulated herself for taking advice from the teachers at the Guild about the strength training. Among other things, it was definitely going to help in keeping up with Sal.

"Got 'em."

As they began their return to Niflheim, Emerald noticed that, unfortunately, because of her height the body under her arm was going to drag its bloody toes across the ground. Hopefully nothing would use the trail to hunt them... or maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. 'No need to worry. Sal's got weapons of mass destruction and I wanna see him... her, use them on something or someone... but not on me.'

Making his way through the forest back to Niflheim, Sal occasionally peered back at his comrade to be sure she was keeping up. Emerald didn't do so badly - for a woman. Usually, if Sal ever encountered females, either victims or witnesses, they were sniveling, pathetic creatures. It made the guilt that much less when he'd raised his guns to their temples and fired.

It seemed Emerald was content in carrying the bodies, enjoying her time, and even 'making friends'. It wasn't that Sal'd change his mind any time soon, but the idea of getting along did seem to be growing on him.

"Almost there," he grunted, shifting one of the bodies on his shoulder. There was a screech far back in the Bloodmire - the remaining corpses had obviously been upset. However, the pair of hunters sensed no approaching music and continued on their way. Sal even whistled as they made their way to the mansion.

"Great!" Emerald was beginning to feel a tad more sweaty than bloody. She didn't mind that as much as the slight ache down her back, but she convinced herself that the pain was because of her bossom more than the body she was carrying.

She almost wish that she could go back for more hunting. If that scream was anything to go by, then obviously the inhabitants of the Bloodmire were asking for it. "Aw, they miss us already. Heh."

But they had to make their room more comfortable. Priorities!

Once inside, eyes adjusting to the darkness, Sal and Emerald made progress back to their room. Once inside, Sal laid the bodies against the nearest wall, leaving enough space for Emerald to lay down her bodies too.

When they were situated, Sal stared at the pulpy corpses.

"We can dismember, dismantle, slice, dice, drain, peel, dissect, pump, or carve these guys into little pretty pictures." He sneered, nodding towards his roommate. "Gotta any specific ideas in mind?"

The bodies made a satisfying thump when Emerald plopped her bodies on the floor near Sal's prizes. 'Oh yes, I love the sound of violent death so early in the morning.'

"Besides the splatter-painting? I think I do, yes." With that, she took her dagger and began to scalp one of her corpses. "This hair would make a good brush~ I have an idea for our door here."

As Emerald spoke to him, Sal grabbed the nearest body and laid it out on his bed. With a quick hand, he yanked a knife out of a pocket over his heart, flipped the blade out, and proceeded to slice the corpse open, starting from the neck and ending at the genitalia.

"An idea for the door?" he echoed as he tore the chest open, revealing the cavity in all its bloated glory. "What would that be, Pussycat?"

"Do you like thorns~?" She made another cut on the neck and gathered more blood on the scalp-brush. In her other hand she suddenly had a small bag of seeds. "This'll be a bitch for anyone who tries to come in our room without permission."

As she 'painted' the edge of the door, she sprinkled the seeds onto the wet blood. Then she waved her hand over those seeds and they sprouted into life, tendrils of roots plunging into the wall while thick green leaves and thorns crawled up the sides, following Emerald's movements.

Clutching a swollen liver, Sal watched avidly as Emerald did her magic trick on the doorway. It suddenly appeared as though their room was an enteranceway to the Amazon Jungle. But he certainly was pleased.

"I think it's a keeper," he said lightly, shooting her a half-grin. "From all the crap I've heard, I don't trust the others enough to let them invite themselves in here. Especially with such precious cargo."

With that, Sal squeezed the liver and threw it into the vanity mirror. The glass shattered everywhere.

"Vanity dies of a broken heart." he murmured.

When the mercenary finished, the entire doorway was bordered. She lingered by the plant for a moment, allowing a tendril of vine curl around her index finger. She could never explain how she could feel the energy of plants, their lives, their heartbeats. After gently sliding a finger affectionately across one of its leaves, Emerald turned back to her bloody prize.

"Glad you approve." She smiled and grabbed one of the larger glass shards to use to open the abdomen of the dead man. Cutting away the tissues that held the intestines proved easier with a smaller blade.

A section of entrails smacked onto the wall, splattering blood across the way.

"I'm feeling so much better already."

"It does add a little bounce in your step, doesn't it?" he agreed wistfully, tearing out what appeared to be the corpse's lungs. After one soft glance at the beautiful organs, he tossed them up to the ceiling fan. They linked around it, dangling down near the light.

What was the most exhilerating was how they still seemed to pump slightly, as though they were continuously taking in air. Sucking in and breathing out, they made Sal's heart ache ever so slightly.

"Anything else you wanna toss up there, dollface?" he asked as he turned back to retrieve another body.

"It's absolutely electric." She let out an evil little cackle, taking a moment to admire Sal's work with the fan. Just by watching those lungs, goosebumps shot up her arms and spine. It felt as good as a lover's touch. "One man's murder is another man's art."

"How about the hands? Or maybe they would look better on the bedposts." Emerald said this as casually as if they were discussing which movie to watch or if they should order the chef's special.

By this time, her own hands were so bloody that she pressed them onto the walls, like a child with finger paints.

With avid eyes, Sal watched Emerald ghost her fingers over the white walls, bloodying them up in the most exhilerating way possible. It was heart-turning, lung-biting, this experience. Why he'd never thought of it before was beyond him. This was better than robbing gun shops.

Slowly, Sal advanced upon Emerald and grasped her wrist and pulled it to him. A slight pause ensued, after which he ran his tongue along her dripping thumb. It hadn't meant to be sensual on his part, but she could take it as she pleased. All he wanted was the sweet nectar of blood running over his tongue.

Sal released her hand. "Mm, delicious."

He chuckled as he moved back to the corpse.

'Haaawt damn! Her mouth opened slightly and her green eyes burned with almost predatory pleasure. It was rather fortunate for Sal that he released her and moved away, because Emerald was sure that she would have done something regrettable had they still been so close. Like start to drool, or lick the blood off Sal's own leather suit, or grab Sal's waist and kiss the darling creature breathless. She thought, 'I'll let you taste how delicious I can really be.'

Instead, she tried a bit of blood from her own finger. Her lips smacked. "Hmm, exquisite."

Sal could nearly smell Emerald's response, and it almost made him proud that someone with no libido could seduce someone made almost completely of libido.

"Best I've tasted yet," he responded to her own comment. Returning to the body, his knife peeled at the skin of the creature, removing a great expanse of it of its back. The blood came out like an unplugged leak once the skin was removed, and it aroused his bloodlust. He took the skin, flipped it in his hand and played with it like a pizza crust before tossing it to the ceiling, watching it stick with an appreciative splat.

"D'ya think it'll stick?" he pointed to it.

While Sal skinned the body, Emerald took the organ that she had thrown on the wall and wrapped in around her bed posts, like a squishy Christmas garland. She turned around when she heard Sal spin the broad-piece of skin and tossed it onto the ceiling. "Nice touch."

She put her hands on her hips and studied the new addition. "If it doesn't, we can always nail it up," Emerald assured Sal. "But it probably will."

Looking around their room, now bloody and smelling of death, Emerald felt both comforted and pleased. "Anything else, sugar?"

Almost glaring at Emerald, Sal simmered: "We've only used three of the five bodies. There's a helluva lot more we can do here and you know it."

To prove his point, Sal gutted the skinned corpse, and with careful precision, removed the small intestines from it. Tucking away his utensils, he stretched the organ out, curled it in his hand, and even considered skipping rope for a very prepubescent second. That was obviously not his personality at all.

"Some more skin patches can go on the ceiling. Walls, too." He directed back at Emerald. "But this baby...this'll be my little treat to my children..." This was directed to his prived wall of weaponry, a wall which he decorated with the intestines of four of the corpses.

Emerald's lips, unconsciously, twisted a bit in irritation. It's not as if she were blind, after all, and she didn't like being called out or ridiculed. But she also didn't like pissing people who owned a ton of weaponry. Instead of rising to the bait, she rolled her bright green eyes and waved her hand as if brushing off Sal's temper off her shoulders. Then she returned to one of her own bodies and began to saw off the hands, to put on her bedposts as she suggested previously.

"Lovely," she said of Sal's wall, with a cheery tone she wasn't necessarily feeling at the moment. Then another idea came to her, and she smiled again. "I wonder if I can sketch tattoos on these skins~ If so, I'll just do them on my side of the room... unless you like any of the tattoos, then I'll make some for you~"

'Hmm, mood swings,' she thought. 'I must be PMS-ing.'

As Emerald spoke, Sal spent the last of the skin on the wall his bed was against. Happy with the results, he turned back to the woman turning hands into bedposts. He followed suite, decapitating one of the heads and screwing it onto the upper right post. For effect, he opened its mouth wide and raised its eyelids, in a parody of terror.

"Tattoos, eh? Do what you want; I'll think about it." But he never would.

He returned his attention to the mutilated bodies. "I think we're done here, pussycat. Should we send someone a special delivery...?"

"How about to Una and Carrion~ The tower is just a floor away, we wouldn't have to travel far." Though Emerald would have loved to send the bodies to a team member who would freak out, she was feeling too lazy at the moment to drag their bodies up and down more stairs. "I'd suggest Lucifer, but the man won't tell anybody where he sleeps. So distrustful, isn't he~?"

She let out an inappropriate giggle as she took the fallen apart corpse in her arms. "We should do this again some time, dah'ling~"

~
AN: I'd have her choose the other members, but since this day took place before a lot of people showed up, it'd be kinda awkward for them to pop up somewhere now... unless you'd like to set them up as one of the Niflheimers finally finding them? Anyway, was that an okay wrap?
