Rendezvous... Again
WHO: L and Light
WHERE: Emptiness, in a once thriving arcade.
WHEN: After L's second night with Blythe.
RATING: PG
WARNINGS: None, yet.
SUMMARY: Against his will (how many times have we heard THAT?), L meets with Light to prevent "Kira," his newly discovered alter ego, from finding and abducting Blythe.

Once, there might have been a reason to see Light, just for the hell of it. To reminisce, for old times' sake, or sit down and talk, man-to-man, about the world as only a pair of geniuses could relate to it. But now, there was no reason but the fact that L was being blackmailed, and that was a good reason to not be overjoyed at the prospect of seeing him.

It was all for Blythe... L reminded himself of this fact, fingering the gun in his pocket. All for her... Light would pay dearly someday, for manipulating him like this, but for now... all he could do was defend.

Light reached Emptiness soon enough, and began looking through the stores to see where he could find L.

He still had his head bandaged up, and his arm was still in a cast. Overall, he looked quite vulnerable, and felt the same as well.

He finally stumbled upon an old arcade. Briefly wondering if the games could still work, he walked in, immediately spotting L.

Oh well, Virtua Fighter would have to wait.

"..Uhm...Hello again, L."

	"Ryuzaki!" L snapped, taking an automatic, distrustful step backwards. However, he relaxed his guard slightly when he actually saw Light. "You're welcome," L returned icily, keeping his shoulders hunched and his hands jammed defensively in his pockets.

"'Kira's' reasoning for coming out here was because you want to see me. Anything else you want?" L kicked the corner of an old DDR platform. His feet were bare and dirty, since he'd given up wearing shoes on the route to emptiness he knew so well by now.

Light sighed. "..No..I don't want to get too comfortable....I don't remember him ever taking over, so I think it must be when I'm asleep or something..I don't want to give him any chances to come out right now." Light replied, sounding truly afraid at the thought.

"..And...if he's anything like me during the Kira case...he'll simply use that desire against me...try to manipulate me....I hope I myself don't give in. I don't trust him."

Seeing Light's point, L stood again. They might never see eye-to-eye on most matters, but at least they could physically.

"That helps... knowing that he comes out when you're unable to pay close attention... though when I spoke with him, Light, he promised that as long as I was here and alone, he wouldn't 'come out'. So, I think that you can relax... unless you're certain that he can't be trusted. Besides... even if he does come out..." L patted his pocket, "I'm more than ready to give you a bullet wound you won't recover from."

L sighed heavily. "Damn it, Light. We both know that that's as likely to happen as..." he stopped. He'd been about to say "feathers falling from the sky" or "people's bodies switching randomly", but those had happened...

"If I make it home, I'll check on Matsuda. Nothing more... though we're both long dead, in our world, Light. I don't know if I'll be able to, or if my body will cross back with me. I can't promise anything." He shook his head. "You made such a mess of things, when we were both alive on earth. I died. Countless others died. And finally, you died. That wasn't very well-planned at all." L began to nibble his finger, the habit so familiar, and the only semi-natural thing he could think of to do at the moment.

"I would hope so," sighed L. "Though 'sorry' hardly makes sufficient amends. I've been threatened. Someone I care deeply for has been threatened. I'm being manipulated, even as we speak... this is not to my liking," he sighed. "Especially since whatever I tell you will probably be figured out at some point by Kira, if he's not listening now."

L decided to assume that Light was being honest, for the moment. Things would make a lot more sense, if he was.

	L started slightly, the hiss coming out of nowhere and catching him off-guard. Was Light actually feeling hostile about this, now? "I've never dreamed before now," L said. "...My dreams are often nightmares, understandably. Though, don't think you can predict the future with dreams..I'd expect more from you. Plan..You need to plan everything...What if, by the end of this, you both end up going back to your own worlds...and never see each other again?" He walked over to one of the games, another fighter game. Simple enough. He began to work to try and find out how to get it to work.
