Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:dorian, finished thread, kain, rating: pg, setting: asgard training grounds

Who: Kain, Dorian, and (Open!)
Where: Asgard Training Grounds, outdoor sparring area.
When: The afternoon after bodyswitch day and before questions day.
Rating: PG, I'm not expecting it to get too violent.
Warnings: None, really.
Summary: Dorian wishes to train, and Kain agrees to help him out.

Kain felt somewhat exposed, without his armor on. He'd opted to leave it back in his room for this little training session with Dorian, since he didn't know whether the mummy wanted to learn hand-to-hand combat or something else, and it was always better to be prepared.

He leaned against the fence, looking up at the sky with a sigh. He had hoped that the mummy wouldn't need to fight, but it was looking more and more like they'd need all the help they could get. It left a bad taste in his mouth, that someone as innocent as Dorian may have to participate in a battle, and not for the first time he wondered what the hell Metatron and his master were thinking, bringing people like Dorian into this "game".

Dorian shuffled through Asgard in mummy form, excited to be getting to train with Kain. It was true: this was probably not a good turn of events, but Dorian knew that if people were in trouble, and he had the ability to help, fighting may be included. It scared him - he'd never fought anyone in his life! - but if it meant others would be saved, his undead self would willingly sacrifice himself.

If L could do it, he could do it too!

As Dorian had never been to the training grounds before, it took several wrong turns till he came across Kain leaning against the fence. This time Kain wasn't wearing his armor, and Dorian noticed how much slimmer he was without it on.

"K-K-Kain!" Dorian cried out as he hobbled over. "Kain, I hhhhave....c-come!"

Kain straightened up when he heard his name called, and he caught sight of the somewhat pathetic looking mummy approaching him. A slow smile worked it's way onto his face, and he gave Dorian a nod of greeting.

"How're you doing, Dorian?" Kain asked, his voice reflecting an enthusiasm he only half felt. It was good to spar again, but he wished it had been under different circumstances. "I hope you're ready."

He meant it in more ways than one.

((asdfjasjf I've got short post-itis. D:))

"Yessss, yes, I am!"

Dorian came up to Kain's side and did his thing - reached in, pulled out a green marble, and changed into his alternate Dorian side. This body was simple - lean, tall, muscular. Long hair and black slacks, he was a simple young man.

"I am prepared now, Kain." Dorian took off the bag of marbles that held his souls and put it against one of the fence polls. He felt strange parting with them, but he didn't want them to be damaged. "What shall we do first?"

{AN: ): Me too}

Kain watched in wonder as Dorian changed into a young man before his eyes, wondering what sort of magic could be behind it. But this was neither the time nor the place for such questions, and his smile returned, a bit wider this time.

"Excellent!" The dragoon exclaimed, walking out into the center of the fenced off sparring area, leaving his lance leaning against the fence. "Well, I was thinking that we could test your hand-to-hand skills first and see how you did. Does that sound good to you?"

((I'm sorry, I think I gave it to you. ]: You know what? It's alright, because it's not like we're writing WAR AND PEACE. :D))

Dorian nodded, following Kain and grinning all the while. The sparring arena field was huge - simple, but very wide. Used to being crammed into small places his entire life, this open-sky kind of environment always frightened him just a tad. At least in a corner he knew where everything was.

"Hand-to-hand?" He queried as he began stretching himself out. He was already a flexible individual and naturally came in shape, but it seemed like the manly thing to do. After all, this wasn't dancing. "Hand-to-hand as in paddycake? Because I never learned that one."

{AN: XD, I shall overcome! Hahaha, that book could have used some of this. Seriously, too dense....}

Kain's grin faltered only for a fraction of a second before he forced it back onto his face. Dorian was so much like a child, even in the body of a full grown man. Was he really going to have to teach him everything, from the ground up? "No, Dorian," he replied, stifling a sigh as he clenched his fists and held them up. "What I mean is, I want to see how well you fight without any sort of weapon. With only your bare hands."

At least in this form, Dorian looked like he could take a couple of hits without falling apart. Literally.

((xD! I wouldn't know, I've never been brave enough to tackle that book, but from what I hear it's loooooooong and dryyyyyy. D: Also, sorry for Kain being rude, I don't mind showing Dorian everything afjlajesj))

"Oh. Okay, I can do that." Dorian nodded his head again, lowering his body into a bit of a crouch, his fists coming up and curling tightly. He didn't know exactly what Kain planned to do, but expected it would be pretty straight forward - he'd swing, Dorian'd block. He'd kick, Dorian'd jump. He'd dodge, Dorian'd come through the back door.

Maybe it wouldn't be so complicated.

"Do we start now or will we divide it like phases of the moon? I can do either, but you are the teacher, yes."

{AN: I never got very far - I need to reread it, though, cuz it could be different a second time around. But it is XD. No, no, it's fine! Kain and you are two different people ^^}

Kain watched as Dorian settled down into a respectable fighting stance, raising an eyebrow slightly. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to teach him after all.

Deliberately dragging the moment out, Kain glanced up at the sky once more. It really was a beautiful day. Only a few fluffy white clouds drifted across the sky. He lowered his gaze back down to Dorian, a sly grin appearing on his face.

"We start...now!" The dragoon cried, quickly rolling to Dorian's left and swinging his left hand forward, hoping to land a punch. He was only testing his reflexes, so if he did managed to hit, it would only sting a little.

((I dunno. Hope you can get through it, if you decide to take another crack at it. Then you can tell me whether it's worth the effort, haha. >_> I need to ditch the irrational worry!))

"Waaooooooo!" Dorian shrieked as Kain came charging straight towards him, his left hand fisted and prepared to blow an outright punch on the mummy man. This had not been what he had anticipated, as the blonde man had been staring at the sky in wonderment not two seconds earlier. Why, he was sneaky, wasn't he?

The rolling had created a cease fire in his brain for only that one moment, and when Kain's fist came to punch him, Dorian's own left fist returned the 'favor'.

Kain's punch did land, and as Dorian hadn't been hit in over one hundred years, tears burst into his eyes. It hadn't hurt him, but it was the fact that he had just been attacked that spooked the willies out of him. He ran back five steps, wiping his face.

"One moment, and then again, okay?"

{AN: Me too ^^. Yeah, sure, I will! Right now I'm reading Stephen King's Cell. I recommend that one, for sure. I have a trashcan right here for that - go ahead, put your worries in!]

Dorian's blow landed, and Kain was impressed for all of ten seconds before Dorian...started crying? That was new. In all the years that he had sparred with people, he'd never known them to burst into tears.

He blinked as he straightened up, watching Dorian wipe off his face. "Um...I'm sorry, Dorian?" Kain said awkwardly. As funny as it was to see a supposedly grown man cry over a glancing blow, the fact that it was Dorian inside that man sucked all the humor out of the situation for the dragoon.

"Are you sure you're ready for this, Dorian? Our enemies aren't going to be pulling any punches, and certainly aren't going to stop attacking just because they spooked you."

Kain almost regretted that statement, but not quite. If Dorian wanted to learn to fight, he'd have to toughen up a bit.

((Ooh, really? I'll have to pick that up sometime, then. ;3 I just finished up The Gunslinger, and by the time I got to the end I realized I should have picked up the second book, as well. I can't believe people had to wait years to get the next parts of the Dark Tower series, guh. Oh, excellent! *Pitches the irrational worry into the trashcan!*))

Continuously wiping the new flow of tears from his eyes, Dorian nodded earnestly at Kain's words. He was a blunt man in what he said, and while the mummy man had a sensitive soul... er, lack of soul..., he appreciated it. The last of the tears were shed and he smiled meekly at Kain.

"I understand. It is that this brings back so many memories. Bad memories." He sighed, his voice filled with regret, guilt, and shame. "It has been so long and yet it has never quite faded. But continue, alright? Continue, as I must learn. I must overcome."

Knowing full well that, yes, an enemy would never cease attacking on the frail basis that their opponent was weeping, Dorian was aware he had to battle this tendency and quickly. At least, when it came to fighting, that is. He returned to his battle-ready stance.

"You can attack again when you'd like."

{AN: Yup! It's quite a bit like the movie The Happening, but not too much. Still interesting, though. I know, right? I wouldn't do that if I were a writer. Woo! Torch it!}

Kain sighed, closing his eyes for a moment as though silently begging for patience. He knew all too well the feeling of having painful memories dredged up, and didn't like to think that he was causing Dorian emotional turmoil. But if this was what the mummy wanted, he would continue on.

"Alright. If you want me to stop, just say so." He said as he opened his eyes, glancing at Dorian's stance for a moment. "What I'm trying to teach your right now, is that you can't ever trust your opponent. They will always try to trick you, catch you off guard." As soon as he was finished speaking, he gave Dorian a small nod, before dashing forward. Just when it looked like he was going to swing at Dorian, he dropped down and kicked out at his leg's hoping to knock him down to the ground.

((Ah, I see! It sounds good~ Have you seen The Happening? It was pretty good. Oh god, me neither. I'd feel so bad. x_x *Light the trashcan on fire!* Haha, I totally didn't notice that I had Kain say "Dorian" twice in the last post, hurf durf.))

It was nice that Kain wanted to keep going, as Dorian had been petrified he would have backed off immediately after witnessing his breakdown. It was embarrassing perhaps more for Kain than the mummy man, as he cried all the time and was not ashamed of such.

When the dragoon came towards him at bewitching speeds again, Dorian had been readily prepared to block his swinging arm. But as Kain had warned, it was easy to be caught off guard, and his kick towards the mummy's legs had him literally backflipping out of the way to avoid the attack altogether.

Enraptured with that feeling of release - he didn't really want to get hit again - Dorian landed straight on his feet and turned the tables on Kain. Now Dorian was the one running after his opponent.

{AN: Actually, I haven't, but I wanna! There are so many movies I want to see. Me too, man, I wouldn't want to do that to devoted readers. WOO! FIRE! It's okay, too, you know ^_^}

Kain grinned in approval as Dorian back-flipped out of the way, getting back to his feet as fast as he could as Dorian closed in on him. He was surprised that he had decided to go on the offensive, but he didn't have time to think about it, as Dorian was faster than he would have expected.

Waiting until the last moment, Kain jumped over Dorian, landing behind him in a crouch, waiting to see how the mummy would react. He was used to people being confused when he showed off the jumping abilities dragoons were known for, but Dorian may not be as surprised by it as some.

((It makes me laugh how in the commercials they seem so proud that WHATSHISNAME finally pumped out an R rated movie, haha. You and me both! I...I'll admit, I wanted to see Speed Racer. I remember watching that show as a kid. Oh, I know! It's just cruel. I bet people died waiting for his books to come out. D: Yay fire! Yeah, because the "leg's" thing in the last post tops it. I NEED TO STOP RE-READING MY POSTS. x3))

Dorian's speed wasn't offense enough to completely throw Kain off guard as the blonde man went sailing over his head faster than he ever could have guessed. Stunned, the mummy came to a full stop as Kain landed behind him. Determined to backtrack, but not completely turn around, he swung his foot out in a parody of a breakdance step, trying to swipe Kain's feet out from under him as he brought his body back.

It was a very bendy move, even for Dorian, so it made his finish a bit wobbly. Either way, his foot successfully connected with one of Kain's.

{AN: I know!!! I'm like, "three cheers for that? >.>" I think I'll wait for Speed Racer to hit DVD. Seeing it in theaters'd give me a seizure, lol. Man, that's a depressing thought. And, yeah, quit it! O: }

Kain hadn't been expecting that at all. He stumbled, attempted to regain his balance, and finally fell straight on his ass.

"Alright!" He exclaimed, holding a hand up and getting to his feet before dusting off his pants. "That was great, Dorian. You're doing very well."

He usually ended the first round of sparring on a positive note when he was teaching someone, and managing to knock him down wasn't an easy feat. Kain could see he was going to have to build Dorian's confidence up a little.

He smirked, and added, "You know, not many students have managed to knock me off balance."

((I guess everyone in Hollywood was waiting for him to lose his R rated virginity. Yeah, I am too, but more because I don't wanna waste my money if it's gonna suck. x3 Yes, it is. I don't know where I come up with this stuff. D: OKAY I WILL I PROMISE. <3))

Scared that Kain would be mad at him for doing something so drastic, Dorian's whole face lit up at the man's comment.

"R-Really...?"

He wanted to jump in glee, pump his fist in the air, and let out a big, whopping shout of success, but he got back into position again. When Kain dusted himself off, he just grinned.

"I think I can like this." He admitted, almost proud now that he actually got a hit in. "Can we go again?"

Kain almost laughed as Dorian's face lit up, finding that the mummy's mood was infectious. He hadn't had this much fun since the party.

"Yes, really."

Dorian just kept surprising and impressing the dragoon, and his eagerness to continue their sparring only raised his opinion of him even more. "Of course we can. But with a different objective this time: I'll be on the defensive, and you do your best to hit me. Alright? You can start anytime."

Kain crossed his arms, a grin still fixed on his face. He almost hoped that Dorian underestimated him, and that he thought it would be easy to land a blow. It always made things more interesting when he proved people wrong.

((Well hot damn, let's buy him his first drink! Haha. BUT I CRAZY SO GOOD? ANYTHING FOR YOU, BBY. :D <3))

So Dorian had to be the attacker this time, hm? The mummy man was now terrified of the prospect, his good mood slipping in a bit. But this was what Kain wanted; this was what was best. So he watched Kain, stared at him - tried to understand everything about his stance, his expression. And ran forward.

He didn't quite know what he was doing, but moving was better than nothing at all. He raised his fists, one aimed to strike Kain in the chest and the other aimed for his stomach. He wanted to bowl the man over.

But luck was not on his side this time.

{AN: WOO! Too bad we're the ones under age. YES, YOU CRAZY SO GOOD. HOT DAYUMN, ILU! <3}

Kain watched Dorian carefully, and as he swung, the dragoon ducked to the right, only narrowly escaping Dorian's fists, before grabbing his arm. Using his momentum, Kain flipped Dorian onto his back, sending him landing in the grass with a soft thud.

"You'll have to do a little better than that." Kain replied, his tone even, neither praising nor condemning Dorian's attack. "Try again."

Really, the mummy was doing well for someone who apparently had no fighting experience. Kain waited for him to get to his feet again, the grin gone from his face.

((Sadness! Shizzam is going to have to drink alone. YAY! ILU TOO~! <3 <3))

Dorian hopped to his feet. Once he had started attacking, the fear had left him completely, and even though he was still somewhat afraid, Kain's encouragement brough him a bit more joy. He may have failed the attack, but he knew this was a lesson.

"Okay!" He said, returning to position. This time he decided to appear as though he was attacking with his hands, but rather planned to use his feet to bring the defining blow.

He ran towards Kain, angling his body exactly the same way. This time, however, his hands caught hold of Kain's shoulders as his leg kicked out the man's feet from under him. Once Kain was swept up, he tried to use the grip on his shoulders to throw him down.

"Guh-!"

Kain couldn't do much but be thrown to the ground, but at the moment his back touched the ground he kept a tight grip on Dorian's arm's and swung his legs up. Kicking into Dorian's chest, he threw the mummy in a pretty flexible maneuver that made the dragoon's back pop in dissatisfaction.

Kain jumped back to his feet, and stretched to pop the kink out of his back before offering Dorian a hand. "That was good! It's hard to believe you're a beginner!" Kain said, the grin coming back to his face in a flash.

{AN: It's okay! It happens!}

Dorian had been on his back faster than he could scream about, and he wondered how on EARTH Kain did that. But then the pain in his chest erupted in ways he'd never experienced before, and it....well, it hit him.

He took Kain's hand, this time grinning as he dusted himself off. He cracked his neck. "Thank you! I get scared, so I fight really hard. So I stay safest as possible." Dorian grinned back. "You are really fast, Kain! You are a bolt of lightening!"

((<3))

Kain allowed himself a chuckle, and nodded in understanding. "Fear isn't bad, but it's not something you should let rule you." His grin grew wider at Dorian's compliment. "Yes, well, I've got years of training on my side. I've still got a lot to show you!"

The dragoon was obviously finally getting to spar with somebody, and he was going to make sure Dorian got all he could out of this session.
