Augen Auf! Ich Komme! (Eyes Open! I'm Coming!)

Who: Carrion, Light
Where: Light's room
When: Late evening. Before body-swap day
Rating: R
Warnings: Violence n' some torture. The Prince of Midnight shows his stuff.
Summary: Carrion wants Lucifer's prize. Light wants to be left alone. One of these characters is not going to get what he wants...

Christopher Carrion didn’t feel much anger or fear these days. He rarely felt much of anything at all, so he had to have others feel for him. Luckily, that wasn’t a problem with most of the players flinging their emotions to and fro at the slightest whim. His nightmares thrived in the chaotic conditions this place provided, and he was well fed, though not entirely content. When Light told him about plotting to build a massively destructive bomb, it ignited Carrion’s temper for a brief time. He didn’t care about the “inhabitants of the realm” becoming hurt or dying from such a weapon – oh yes, he lied on that count. However, he did care about his own plans. Such interference that could hurt his chances at winning this tournament for Niflheim had to be dealt with, preferably swiftly.

Then Lucifer had to make an offer for a prize, which greatly motivated the Prince to deal with the wayward Niflheimer.

Since he rarely visited the other areas in Niflheim, he rarely saw the others. He liked to talk with Jazz and Dante occasionally (and sometimes Sal), but that was the fair limit of his face-to-face social contacts. For a time he wandered around the hallways, flanked by two six-foot-tall stitchlings, the soldiers sewn together like patchwork from the skins of human bodies (easily supplied by the Bloodmire). After putting all of the mansion’s pathways to memory, he headed to Light’s room.

The Nightmare Man had only two personal vendettas that he could never give up: one against his grandmother, Mater Motley, and the second against Candy Quackenbush (though she could count double herself, since she housed the soul of his Beloved). He felt nothing towards Light after his initial anger faded. Light had done nothing “wrong” per se, nor had he mistreated the Prince in any way.

Even so, Carrion would be able to do what he was about to do because he had done it countless times before.

His milky eyes studied the door over the liquid of his “fish-tank-like” apparatus. Those dead eyes appeared to glitter and flash, but only because they reflected the light of his “eels,” the manifestations of his nightmares. ‘Should I knock?’ thought Christopher with bemusement.

Instead, he took the doorknob and broke the locking mechanism with a strong twist. If Light was not inside, Carrion would wait. If the boy tried to run, the stitchlings would chase him down. He had no desire for a game of hide and seek (as much fun as that could be).

No need for pretending that this inevitable event was a mere social call, a friendly chat. No, this was business.

It would be midnight very soon.

Light had already wiped down the scratches on his face once more in order to try and avoid infection. It was the day after he had seen L and he still felt confused.

Was that truly his 'real' self? Was he truly that..innocent? Loving? Guilty?...Masochist? He had done something he had never really expected himself to ever do in his lifetime....or after death either. He had taken drugs. He still couldn't wrap his mind around it. He had taken drugs that L had offered him, of all people! If his past self looked at him now, he would surely be ashamed.

He was still deep in thought as he walked over to his closet, about to take the kittens out of their hiding place to feed them. Though, before he could do so, his door suddenly opened. He refrained from revealing his pets to anyone that may be an enemy and turned to Carrion, his eyes wide at the sight of him. He had not truly seen him before and the visual was quite appalling. Though, somehow, something deep within him told him this had to be the person who kept himself up in the tower.

He was about to speak, but chose better of it, allowing him the first words.

Despite all he had heard, Light was not what Carrion expected. Human, very human; he was a young man in his prime. Ah, but the Prince had learned his lesson about underestimating humans. An innocuous facade could hide cunning and cruelty better than any fantastically shaped Abaratian. In addition, this one had once aspired to be "god."

What terrible things had he done to attain divinity? What sorts of memories haunted him?

Carrion's face lit up in a ghastly smile at Light's wide eyes. 'Finally. How refreshing to see surprise on a mortal's face.' Perhaps he would do a little pretending after all.

"Hello, Light Yagami. I thought it was time to introduce myself. My name is Christopher Carrion."

Without being told, the stitchlings stayed outside to guard the door.

"...I had a feeling that's who you were. Might I be allowed to ask why you have come down from your tower to see me?" He asked warily. He thanked whatever forces above that the kittens were remaining quiet. Why he cared so much about them he couldn't be sure, but he certainly didn't want them in the hands of this..this..whatever you would call him.

He moved away from the closet to face Carrion directly, not allowing himself to show fear anymore as his face took on an apathetic gaze.

He strode forward deeper into the room, then paused to look around, his eyes flickering once or twice towards the kittens. Of course Carrion could easily destroy them, as he had the other "cute" animals that had popped into his tower that one day, but it seemed a waste of energy here. As long as Light didn't speak of them, the Prince would ignore them... though there was no guarentee if Light hinted that the pets were important, even precious, to him. Then they would just become another device to use and throw away.

"I was thinking," Carrion replied, "We haven't gotten to know each other very well. You and I have a bit in common, did you know that?" He took another step forward, just outside of Light's personal space. Then another step. "I'd like for you to guess how we are similiar."

His tone became less friendly at that last statement, more demanding, because of course he was getting used to what he wanted.

Light watched him warily, not daring to move away, as that would make his fear obvious. He could only hope he wasn't sweating or shaking. He didn't feel like he was, but sometimes the body could deceive its host.

"..Guess how we are similar?" He repeated in a question form, looking thoughtful for a moment. "...We both like our privacy..Like power over others..and don't give a damn about most people...Am I correct?"

"Good, good." Light's fear washed over Carrion like the sweetest perfume. He took a deep breath of it. The eels, picking up on the fear as well, were showing signs of life at last, sloshing the fluid and making strange noises as their bodies began to glow brighter. He could feel their hunger. 'This is just the appetizer,' he promised.

"Power over others... Seductive, is it not?"

As fast as a viper, Carrion grabbed the convenient chains around the young man's wrists and pulled them up over Light's head, as easily as picking up a small kitten. With a murmured incantation, he threw the chains towards the wall, and there the magic held them down tightly and limited the movement of Light's arms.

Light's eyes widened, struggling against the chains almost savagely.

No! No! This wasn't good! This wasn't good! He didn't know what powers Carrion may have, but he knew they couldn't be anything he had ever seen back home.

"...Why me?" He asked, once calming himself enough to resist struggling. He had been unable to pull himself from the wall, and he was doubtful he ever would by himself.

Ah hah, the most amusing two words ever uttered.

"Why you?" the Prince chuckled, shaking his head. "Because your foolishness has gone on long enough, and I cannot stand foolishness. Because Lucifer has promised a prize to the one who can ensure you will serve Niflheim, not just your own purposes."

He held up his hand and the first eel jumped onto it. "And because, perhaps, you deserve it." The full weight of Carrion's gaze fell on Light, a gaze empty of pity, sympathy, and compassion. His hand then gracefully stretched out towards Light's face, and the eel screamed as it wrapped around the boy's neck.

Light's eyes widened again as he became overwhelmed by fear.

What..what was it those did again? Why couldn't he remember?!

He began struggling again. A bounty was on his head. A bounty for his teammates if anyone tortured him into submission. He wouldn't tell! He wouldn't tell!! He couldn't! He had to keep control!

Why did he feel so scared? Why couldn't he control his emotions as well as normal?

Carrion was most satisfied with the results so far. Light seemed to be fighting against the fear, trying to get control of his emotions. But it wouldn't be so simple. These eels were the manifestations of evil thoughts and nightmares; they were created to be harder to run from.

"Not feeling so well, Light?" he asked. "I'm most curious, please do tell me if this is becoming... too much for you to handle."

Another eel was added, this one around an ankle.

Light began kicking at the air, trying to throw the eel off, but it was holding on too tightly. He grunted, kicking with his full strength, but to no avail.

Did he see shadows in the room? Who was there?! Who?! He didn't remember anyone entering!

He began to feel more paranoid, more fearful. No matter how he tried to fight it, it continued to seep in.

Moving out of the way of Light's kick, Carrion continued watching him. He was most resilient, but Carrion knew exactly how this would end.

Impatient, the Prince growled, "I asked you a question, boy." The next eel he brought out, he let slide across Light's cheek, and forehead before it circled around Light's arm and wrapped around a wrist. "Can't you speak? I heard you only moments before. Is that the trouble? Are my pets smothering you yet?"

It did seem like it was getting hard to breathe. That was quite possibly just his reaction to the onslaught of fearful stimuli he was receiving. Quick breaths, in and out, in and out, but they weren't enough.

There was then a figure in those moving shadows. Someone who walked out, gun in hand, aimed at Light like so many times before. That same gun that haunted his nightmares, those teary eyes belonging to a man so determined to get rid of the boy who had played him like a fool the whole time.

The only one who had kept his trust in Light throughout the whole case, and Light had ruined it.

"No! Let me go! Let me go!" He cried out, not wanting to experience this again. "I have to get away!"

"Wh-what was it all for? The Chie-No, Deputy Director...Deeputy Director Yagami...He was your father...What did your father die for..?"

"Noooo! Stop it!" He pleaded.

The human's eyes were wide and dialated, seeing whatever visions the fear had brought to the surface. Meanwhile, Carrion was feeling better and better by the minute, as his nightmares fed off Light's terror. And yet, he still did not have his fill.

"Yes, you have to get away, but there is no escape from this." Carrion smiled lazily as he pulled out yet another eel. "There is no where you could go, no place you could run. You can't cover your ears or shut your eyes... not from me, not from the ghosts, not from the fear."

After the eel snuggly fit around the remaining ankle, Carrion replied, "No, I won't. Not until I have what I want."

"You drove your father to his death and now you're trying to change the subject by telling me he was made a fool?!"

"Matsuda..No..No..Listen to me...Please!" He pleaded, lost in the flashback.

But his pleading was to no avail. There were still bullets escaping that gun, and there was still the pain that enveloped him. He screamed out, shaking and trembling as he felt the bullets pierce his skin, despite them not really being there.

"I've got to kill him! This guy has got to die!"

"No, Matsuda..Please..Please Matsuda..Just hear me out..." His voice became a bit of a choked beg. "..Please."

"Well, this is useless," Carrion muttered, but not unkindly. He was still enjoying the terror he was causing, but since he did not bring the "momentary," a device that he used to look inside a person's dreams, he could not see what Light was re-living.

He would remember the name "Matsuda," however. That name would come in handy later.

"Matsuda doesn't want to listen to your pathetic begging." Carrion grabbed Light's hair forcibly, twisting his face towards his tormentor's. "And neither do I. You will submit to my will, and my will is for you to serve Niflheim."

((OOC: Why am I amused by the Orochimaru icon?))

And that was when Matsuda was pulled away by the rest of the Task Force, the bullet hole mere inches from Light's head, smoking in the ground. He glanced at it in fear before looking up..and seeing Carrion's face. He cried out again, extremely surprised, and began trying to escape once more.

"I-I'll serve Niflheim..I'll do anything I can! Please..please let me go!" he couldn't stand to see the rest...experience the rest again. No..He didn't want to see death again. Not now..No! Hopefully never!

((OOC: Oh, is that who that is? XD))

Christopher Carrion grinned and, for a moment, didn't say a word. He mused on Light's past situation involving what he did to L, and what he had once said to a subordinate of his: there is much fear in the hearts of cruel men. Whether Light was truly as cruel as the Prince or not, time would probably tell.

He granted his victim some mercy as one-by-one, he retracted the eels. He did not yet unhook the chains from their binding, but waited until Light caught his breath. He gripped Light's arm as if to anchor him in reality. Returning to terror would be all well and good, but pointless if Light didn't remember what he had just promised.

"Just so you know, if you betray me, Lucifer, or Niflheim, this is only a taste of the real pain I can put you through"

And then he promptly broke Light's arm with one hand, as easily as he would snap a twig.

Light's eyes widened before he screamed out in pain. The agony exemplified by the unstable state of his mind. He had re-experienced his death before..Why...Why was this so much worse? It didn't even finish. It..It was only Matsuda...

Matsuda...and his tearful eyes as he cried out in vengeance, gun aimed at Light. Matsuda...the unstable, clumsy, unintelligent Matsuda.

Matsuda....The only one Light never expected to turn on him.

Why was it so much worse when the part Matsuda played was emphasized more than Ryuk....Matsuda was scarier than his own death? Or...Or would that part really have been worse if Carrion had continued?

Nevertheless, there was pain now...Pain, so much pain. And his mind was still feeling the aftereffects of the eels, still seeing shadows and hearing sounds that shouldn't be there.

He continued to scream, wondering briefly why no one had come in yet to see what was going on..and then quickly dismissed it. There was a bounty on his head....Everyone probably knew, and weren't bothering with helping him or getting involved in any way.

He was all alone.

All alone.

Maybe that was what was the most scary part of it all.

As he stepped away, Carrion undid the chains from the wall with a wave of his hand. He sneered at the pathetic creature screaming on the floor, cradling his arm, so injured and so alone. Even Light's anguish could not ease the black hole of hatred in the Nightmare Man's heart.

So yes, he would continue to hurt and to cause pain, because he couldn't, and wouldn't, change.

Before he left the room, he decided on whether to call the doctor to fix up Light's arm, or have the stitchlings cast it. Then he wondered if it even mattered.

"Enjoy your nightmares, Light Yagami. You'll be having plenty of them from this night on, my comrade."

Light didn't dare to look up at him. He didn't want to.

He refused.

Pain. Pain. He had to fight it, had to-

But it was horrible, and his already un-calm state made it harder to focus on anything besides the pain in his arm and throughout his body.

He couldn't think. He couldn't-

And then there was black around the edges of his eyes, and he fell unconscious on the floor.

Carrion's shoulders shook, not in anger, but in a great sigh. "Lucifer probably wouldn't appreciate your arm healing in a strange position, now would he?"

Not wanting to touch Light anymore than necessary, he directed his servant stitchlings to place the fallen Niflheimer on his bed and then to set the arm. A spell conjured the materials for the cast out of thin air.

With duty done and mission accomplished, Carrion finally left. If anyone had looked closely at that moment, one might have seen a slight spring in the Prince's step.

All-in-all, he was pleased.
