Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:blythe, finished thread, frank, kain, setting: room 103 within asgard

Who: Kain, Blythe, and Frank
Where: Asgard, Room 103
When: The morning of body swap day
Rating: PG, not likely to change.
Warnings: Kain isn't going to be happy when he sees Blythe?
Summary: Kain wakes up as Frank, and while he's still getting used to the idea, finds out that Blythe seems to be in a considerable amount of pain. He rushes to her room to find out what's wrong.

It felt so odd, being in someone else's skin. The small differences in height, weight, and the unique physical characteristics made even walking the short distance to Blythe's room feel foreign. He thanked whatever benevolent entity was listening for the fact that Frank was at least in good physical shape.

Once he reached the door to room 103 he paused, debating whether he should just rush inside or knock first. He decided to knock, just in case.

"Hey, Blythe? It's me, Kain. I'm coming in, okay?" He called after knocking sharply against the door, the sound of his words coming out in a voice that wasn't his own strangely unnerving.

With that, he turned the handle and opened the door.

As soon as Blythe had realized that the body she had inhabited was indeed Gin's, she began to wonder just how good of an idea it was accepting his offer. If he came in and saw her in her pitiful condition, what would he think? As for looking like Gin...maybe he wouldn't think. Maybe he'd just kill her before knowing the truth.

But he wouldn't, would he...?

Besides, Frank would be in her room soon, and he would be the reasoning for the three of them. She hoped.

Panicking, she felt around for her bed quickly, and stumbled into sitting on it. "Alright..." she fought her hardest to ask him not to look at her. She was very ashamed of her condition. "Are you....Are you here now? Please do not be angry with me."

If Kain exploded using Frank's voice, she wouldn't know how she'd handle it.

((Think we should do a little bit of interaction before Frank shows up?))

Kain froze as soon as he caught sight over her, every muscle tightening, something that sounded like a snarl escaping his lips before he could stop himself.

"You!" He growled, taking a few steps forward. "What the hell are you doing here? Where's Blythe?" So that was is, huh? This whole thing was some game Ichimaru was playing with him. He was so stupid, always falling into his traps, letting him taunt him and now Blythe was gone and--

Wait. Kain paused, and realized that Ichimaru wasn't smirking. And he looked downright nervous. It took a moment for what he said to sink in, and Kain suddenly realized that it was Blythe.

"I...you...what?" He sputtered, before the embarrassment sank in. "Oh, Blythe! I'm sorry! I just--I didn't mean it."

He tore his eyes away from her, fixing them instead on the drapes behind his--or her--head.

It was so strange hearing Frank sound like that, even as her - his - body tensed, knowing it was Kain. As someone who was so protective of others, she was unsurprised at his demanding to know where she was, despite being well aware herself that she was sitting right in front of him in Gin's body with at least four scarves tied over her eyes. Blythe was this close to begging him to calm down when he did so on his own.

"I-I understand. It must be difficult for you in these....circumstances." She swallowed, trying to cool her throbbing headache. "If I had known, I would have told you. I'm sorry."

Kain shook his--or Frank's? He really needed to stop trying to figure it out--head, glancing at Blythe briefly. "No, I...you don't need to apologize."

He suddenly remembered why he was here in the first place, and bent down to get himself level with her face, frowning thoughtfully. "Are you in pain? Is there anything here that you can use to ease it?"

He felt terrible that he had flown into her room and addressed her with all the tact of an angry cougar, and was determined to try to help out any way he could, even if looking at her made him want to punch something.

[OOC: I hope Frank can jump in here?]

Frank made his way down the hallway and knocked at Blythe's door. He was worried about her... he was worrid about a lot of people, but maybe he could actually help Blythe.

If Kain was there... He was in Frank's body. This was going to be very strange.

{AN: It's fine! Welcome in! =D}

"Yes...I...I am in pain." She placed Gin's hands over Gin's eyes, trying to block the light. "But I don't know how to stop it... The splitting of my Third Eye is hurting me more than I expected."

But Gin had senses that she didn't know existed, and they were tugging at her. Someone was at the door, they told her. And not more than a second later, that someone was knocking.

"Kain...that must be...Frank."

((ooc: Sorry you two! D: I was kind of preoccupied yesterday with all the father's day stuff.))

Kain winced at the mention of a "splitting of the third eye", trying not to imagine just how painful that would be. He jumped slightly at the knock, still a little tense from the shock he'd received earlier, and he nodded, straightening up and heading to the door.

As he opened it, he blinked in confusion as he saw the worse-for-wear young man in the doorway. It was Mitch, of course, he'd seen him at the party. But it was still a little odd to think that Frank, of all people, was in his body. While Kain stood there in his real body and--

He shook his head, forcing a smile and stepping out of the way. "Come on in, Frank."

Frank stared at his own self in surprise. That was his body, his face, except he wasn't in it. He shook his head a little.

"Uh, thanks, Kain," he said awkwardly as he passed into the room. "I can't stay too long... Will said something on his journal about going to Niflheim and I want to at least read the journal and make sure he didn't go. But I really want to make sure Blythe is all right too. Thank you for... helping her."

That sounded strange, as if Blythe were Frank's responsibility which she clearly wasn't. But he figured Kain would take it the way he meant it.

[OOC: Sorry about Frank, I'm just trying to be consistent with his message in Will's journal.]

Even through the throbbing, Blythe tried to stand up. But it was one thing being demonically blind and another to be mortally blind. And while she found the door alright, she ran into the back of Kain...er, Frank. Er...Frankenkain. Rubbing her...his...head fervently, she backed off.

"Ah, oh, Frank, I am glad you are here." She had heard him addressing Kain and knew that he could only stay briefly, if that long. "I prepared some aloe juice for Mitch yesterday. It should work quickly enough before you go and check on Will."

Of course, she didn't know what exactly was wrong with Will, but she hoped it was nothing serious. "If Will is in too much turmoil, Kain, I would also wish to not inconvenience you." She hissed as a new wave of pounding washed over her temples. "Is he...Is he in imminent danger?"

Kain stumbled slightly when Blythe ran into him, and he would have tried to steady her if she hadn't righted herself and taken a few steps back on her own.

His curiosity was piqued at the mention of Will, as he hadn't heard any mention of there being anything wrong with the man. He'd been a bit too preoccupied with his own troubles to read much on the communication network.

"I'm sure it isn't anything too horrible," Kain replied, masking his concern at the state that Blythe was in. The hiss of pain hadn't escaped his notice. "And, well...Frank can come get me if Will's in trouble."

He glanced between Frank and Blythe (Mitch and Ichimaru?) before adding "Do you need me to get the medicine for you?"

"I think Will will be all right," said Frank. "I just want to make sure he didn't head off to Niflheim; that's not safe no matter whose body he's in."

[OOC: At this point neither he nor Will knows the full extent of the problem.]

Frank didn't say it out loud, but he didn't think Kain would be a very effective fighter in his body.

"I'm sorry you're in so much pain, Blythe. It must have been such a shock to wake up like this. And... I'll take some aloe. That's kind of you."

The prospect of Frank chasing after Will, who could or could not be heading to Niflheim, was a bad enough thought, but Kain in Frank's body sounded a tad bit worse. She worried deeply about both men, but was quite certain that if it came down to it, they would do what was right and not what was foolhearty. That much she had to be sure about.

"I'll recover after the day's events." she tried to soothe over the worry in the room. Any more of it and she'd start panicking. "The aloe is, ah, here...over here..." It was hard moving around in Gin's body - it was bulkier than hers, and she couldn't help that every so often she nudged into Kain in Frank's body. "Here it...ah...is. Will you - Will you keep us updated on Will's condition?"

((ooc: Sorry about that, Kain's last post was worded awkwardly because I forgot that Frank had mentioned that Will was heading toward Niflheim. x_x And sorry for the short post, my brain's not cooperating.))

"Yes, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Niflheimers are a little more aggressive than usual, under the circumstances."

Kain kept an eye on Blythe, trying not to wince every time she bumped into him. He couldn't help but feel uneasy about letting Frank search for Will alone, even if he was in Mitch's body, but there wasn't much he could do about it.

"Will might not even have gone to Niflheim after all... and I don't want to worry anyone." Frank could hope at least that Will wasn't doing anything foolish.

"I'm sorry things are so rough on you, with... the light and all, Miss Blythe. Thank you for the aloe, and ... well, since Kain is here to help I'd better go now. I'm just going to go check Will's journal..."

{AN: It's okay, dear, it was nice that you stopped in!}

"Yes, goodbye, Frank - but please, please be safe." Blythe warned before he exited the room. She was truly concerned for him.

Anything else to be said would be said by Kain. Other than that, she was back to sitting her big, manly self down on the bed and trying to rid herself of the need to get sick all over the bedroom floor. There was too much to think about when she was in this state.

((ooc: They weren't unimpressive at all! It was great having you come by! :3))

"Good luck." Kain called after Frank as he left, giving him a small nod.

After a moment of hesitation, Kain sat himself on the bed opposite of her, still finding it hard to adjust to the fact that it was Blythe in Gin's body. S(he?) was looking a little green around the gills, and Kain sincerely hoped he wasn't going to have to clean up any vomit.

"How did your third eye manage to split between your body and...this one?" He asked, unable to contain his curiosity. It probably wasn't the best topic to discuss in her state, but he thought that maybe talking would help somehow.

Because Kain was in Frank's body and therefore sounded exactly like him, Blythe was inclined to be sweeter and more understanding, even in such pain. She had a soft spot for Frank above all others.

"Mmm," placing her - his - hands on her - his - temples, Blythe began to massage them as she spoke. "The spirit came with me, and the blindness stayed with my body. They cannot function one without.....without...." she swallowed "without...one another. My blood - my heritage - is the reason why my blindess is the way it is. If it were not for my demonic heritage, I would have been completely and utterly blind. The magick is apart from the source."

As Blythe began to slowly explain the splitting of her third eye, Kain became more and more alarmed by the way she was struggling to speak through the pain. Not for the first time in his life, he wished he had picked up some white magic, but doubted that even that would help in this situation.

Even through his worry for Blythe, he couldn't smother the small part of him that wondered, Is this what Ichimaru would sound like if he was in pain? As soon as the thought cropped up, he discarded it, disgust flashing across his (Frank's?) face for a split second.

"That sounds..." he decided against saying "horrible", "...difficult. If it hurts to speak, you don't have to, really."

He couldn't stand the thought of forcing conversation with her if it was only causing her more pain.

{AN: I love making Gin pitiful ^__^ In a good way.}

Blythe nodded, melancholy, and sank down on the bed, curling up in a little ball. It felt so strange doing it in a man's body - when she curled up in her own form, there was security in it. Here, there was nothing more than severe discomfort and embarrassment. Her stomach was calming down, but her head was still pounding.

Mostly she was scared of being in Gin's body in front of Kain. The irony of the situation was agonizing.

"How are you feeling now? This day must really be hard for you."

((ooc: Haha! It's hilarious. I mean, picturing this whole thing in my head is just...pfft haha. Also, ACK I GIVE UP ON USING JUST THE DEFAULT FRANK ICON. It's irking me to use only one icon through this thing. Dx))

It was somehow funny and unnerving at the same time to see Ichimaru/Blythe acting so vulnerable, and Kain didn't know whether to laugh or look away. It was almost like watching an airship wreck.

He really did let out a small chuckle at her question, the ridiculousness of being asked how he was from someone who was as ill as her was astounding. "Well, I've had worse days," he replied cheerfully. "Like the time Cecil and I failed our first mission: hauling in a criminal. It was a black mage wanted for arson, and Cecil nearly got all of his hair burned off. When we finally managed to pin him down and drag him into the prison, we realized what we had captured was only a scarecrow bewitched to look like the man. Our pay was docked for a month."

Once Kain finished speaking, he blinked in confusion. "Oh, uh...sorry. I didn't mean to ramble. I...don't usually do that."

{AN: Yeah, I don't know Hannah does it! I love icons, man, and in BULK. But, yeah, getting to be Gin for a day? I better play up the pathetic womanlyness.}

If she had understood half of what he was talking about, Blythe was sure her mood would have been appeased. But his apology was a bit unnecessary, as it was nice to hear him talk about it. Granted, it was strange hearing it from Frank's mouth and not his own, but she still enjoyed it nonetheless.

"No, no, keep talking. It helps." And it did. The less she had to do, the more relaxed she was. And when he talked, it took her mind off of any chance of a panic attack. "Tell me more about Cecil. You've....mentioned him several times now. Your...brother, was he not?"

((ooc: Yes! Me too! It makes me sad that there are so few Kain icons, guh. I had to make like nine of them myself. D: Oh, I love you. <3))

Kain's eyes swept across the bookshelf as he mulled over her request. He hadn't really thought about his happier memories with Cecil in a long time, and it was hard to pick which ones to share with her.

"Yes, I suppose you could call him my brother. We never referred to each other as such, but it was sort of...an unspoken thing." He replied finally. "Cecil was a great man. He rarely let anything get him down, and he was an accomplished warrior. He saved my hide more times than I can count when we were young. He was a year younger than me, but he was always more mature."

He paused, as though unsure whether he should continue, before speaking again. "He was very proud, the day that he was named the Commander of the Red Wings. Rosa--a mutual friend of ours--looked as though she would be overcome with joy. Turns out he had the makings of an excellent leader, and the Red Wings never lost a single campaign he led."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "If you want to know more, just ask."

As Kain said, Cecil did sound like a wonderful man and a good influence. The man across the room from her spoke very highly of him, and obviously felt a good deal for him. Brothers or not, there was love there and she could hear it.

She took his offer into account. "He sounded ...like a good friend. You two must have had some wonderful times together. He must be very sad you've gone." It must be nice to have people miss you. She sighed, but the sound came out more like a groan. The throbbing that she had once thought was fading was coming back in full force.

Kain smiled, glad that Blythe couldn't see the bitterness of it. He'd been about to reply when she suddenly groaned, and he jumped to his feet.

At her request, he grimaced, and would have loved to spout useless questions like are you alright?, but he knew better. Serious injury wasn't foreign to him, and neither were seizures. The worst part would be touching Ichimaru, but he could deal with that too.

He strode over to her side, and with the ease of someone who had had to do it many times, shoved all the worry, anxiety, and fear into some dark corner of his mind to be ignored.

"Yes, I can," Kain replied, in the closest he could get to a reassuring tone. He placed his hands down on her--Gin's--shoulders, gently, for now. "I'm right here, don't worry."

He hoped that she wasn't about to start seizing, but he was fully prepared, just in case she did.

{AN: It does make them extra special, doesn't it? I love obscure characters and Kain is fabulous. <3~~~~~ Okay, I'll do that! ...... She said thank you!! =D}

She hadn't expected Kain to be so quick to respond. Rather, she had anticipated a nod of understanding and an "okay". This was nice, though. Slowly, her perception of Frank disappeared, and despite all that told her he was the older man from Earth, she was beginning to recognize him as only Kain.

It must have been awkward for him, though, and she was ashamed to be in such a position, in Gin's body or otherwise. To be weak and in such a frail state was very embarrassing. Though the proximity was reassuring.

But not reassuring enough, as her body began to shake a bit - not from the seizure, but from the fear. Her breathing became laboured, her palms beginning to sweat.

"I'm sorry, I'm just...scared." She swallowed again and again. "Just...just k-keep your hands there. Talk to me."

Kain pushed back the surge of pity he felt, guessing that a mother hen was probably not what she needed right now. Instead he did as he was instructed, and began to speak, trying to keep his voice as calm and soothing as he could.

"Would you like to hear more of my world?" She seemed to have enjoyed that topic last time he brought it up. "Across the mountains to the west of Baron, there is a great forest. I'm fairly certain it's the biggest one on the planet, with only small footpaths through it. At the western edge of that forest is Troia, a huge city ruled by a counsel of eight women. They're fair and just, and their people love them. It was the city troubled the least when war broke out, probably because of their isolated location, and their highly trained fighting force. Composed mostly of women, of course."

He paused in his narrative, glancing down at Blythe once more (he still couldn't quite bring himself to look at her for too long, lest he be reminded whose body she was in). "Am I helping at all?"

To hear of a city ruled by women warmed Blythe's heart even through all her pains. She was always a bit of a feminist, even in her life alone in the forest. It may have had to do with the fact that her parents, from what she could remember, always treated each other like equals.

Kain's own soothing voice - via Frank - helped in ways no one else's voice could. Even as she began shuddering, her mind spinning at a thousand miles per hour, and even as she lay there in the body of the man whom Kain hated most, this voice dazzled her.

But it was her...his...body that needed convincing. And right now it wasn't convinced one bit.

"Yes...you are...your de-descriptions are very.......are..." The shaking became too much, and she felt her insides heave. This wasn't a seizure - at least, not right now. This was a panic attack. "Let go, let go! I.....I can't breathe....let go!" Gin's body was more forceful than hers, and the struggle to get free of the hands that helped her became formidable.

With a sharp intake of breath, Kain pulled away from Blythe as quickly as he could. He hadn't been expecting that, and it had jolted him enough to take a few quick steps back. He noted that Frank's body didn't respond quite as quickly as his would, but that wasn't too surprising. He hoped Frank wouldn't get any bruises on his chest.

It didn't seem like she was having a seizure, it just looked as though she was...scared out of her mind. He'd seen this too, but only a couple of times, and he didn't really know how to deal with it.

"Blythe, you're okay, just calm down." He said slowly, not really sure if it would help. He doubted it, but it was worth a try.

{AN: You are awesomeness out of a tin can. I know, right? Kills me every time. Damn college! And poor, panicky Gin XD.}

Kain's words were hardly registering in her ears as the anxiety in her mind infiltrated her body. She stood up restlessly, shuddering, and began pacing to and fro, holding this man's body very tightly. Luckily, she remained in her own room, so completely incapacitated or not, she knew where the furniture was and could avoid it in her meltdown.

Her breathing was erratic, and it upset her worse to know it wasn't her own mouth, her own voice that cried out in fear. It was so much to take in at once - a new body, a split Eye, the inability to see and not see, the illnesses she had only recently overcome, and the fact that Kain was watching her collapse (as a severe dent to her pride) into a hundred pitiful, Gin pieces.

"You shouldn't be here..." she finally chucked out there as some means to ease her mind. Whether or not it was true - whether or not Kain took it as such - she needed to spout out anything bottled up through the ragged breaths. "This is wrong. And I am here, in this - this body! And I must be so hideous. And my Eye...ah, my Eye! Should I...Should I sit down? I should sit down. But I cannot...not now, not now.... Kain, could you - ?"

Kain, could you catch me? Didn't come fast enough, as she passed out (still in a very feminine way; no ka-THUNK) to the floor.

Kain's eyes followed her as she nervously paced, his body still fixed in place, ready to jump to her aid if she bumped into anything or tripped. He didn't know what else to do. He remained silent, thinking that maybe any awkward attempt to calm her down would just backfire.

He frowned when she said "You shouldn't be here...", but knew better than to take it personally when she was in this state. "You're not hideous, Blythe." He said quietly, though he wasn't sure she could hear it over her own rambling. This was worse than when he'd been waiting for a seizure to hit. At least then he could do something, even if it wasn't much.

The dragoon jumped, then rushed to Blythe's side when she crumpled to the floor. A quick check revealed that yes, she was still alive. His heart had skipped a beat when she fell. Had his negative reaction to her when he'd first entered the room contributed to this mental breakdown? The familiar cold and heavy feeling of guilt in the pit of his stomach hit him, and he sighed. It seemed that he could never avoid making things worse.

After a moment of hesitation, he grabbed hold of Blythe/Ichimaru, and did his best to heave her up onto a bed. It was tougher than it should have been, but finally, after a few moments of struggling, he managed to get her onto one.

Wiping some sweat from his brow, he sat down on the floor next to the bed, studying the wall, not sure whether he should stay or leave.

{AN: BOBBLE-HEAD DOLLS. We need to make Brandi bobble-head dolls! Oh, and you know I'm having the absolute best time ruining Gin's image here. Next time Kain and Gin face each other, neither will be able to keep a straight face XD. He can stick around! She'll wake up. We can do some more posts after that, but I'm thinking we're thinking not too many, correct?}

Only a few minutes later Blythe came to, still very fatigued and sore, but much calmer. She was startled to find absolute darkness, but only for a split second before the reality of things smacked her in the face.

"Oh, by the unGods..." she grumbled, rubbing her man-hands over her man-face. After several slow breaths, she sat herself up, feeling the sheets of her bed beneath her. Recalling that she had been pacing when she fainted, laying on the bed didn't make a tick of sense. Unless...

"Kain? Kain, are you still there?" She wasn't sure where he was or even if he was in the room at all. Either way, the humiliation of her panicky state in front of the young man. He'd been supportive and generous through it all; had even lifted her unconscious body on the bed, and things could hardly get worse. She was sure she wouldn't be talking about this tomorrow. "I am sorry, Kain, I am sorry."

((OH LORD. That would be...epic. And Vic bobble-head dolls as well! THEY'D BE AN AWESOME SET. <3 Haha, I bet you are. x3 Oh I know, it will be the most awkward meeting ever. "Hey Kain, how'd you like your dress?" "Not half as much as you liked BEING A PANICKY GIRL HARHAR!" Oh good, yeah, that's fine. I figured it wouldn't carry on for much longer, anyway. Just wanted to clear it up~ :3 <3))

Kain tilted his head back, just barely able to see her form shifting behind him from the angle he sitting in. "Yes, I'm here," he paused, then added in a tone of forced cheerfulness: "There's nothing to be sorry about! I was already prepared for the worst when I showed up here, in the first place. I'm the one that should be sorry."

The fact that she was guilty for being sick of all things, when he was the one who had behaved so horribly when supposedly coming to her aid only added to his own guilt.

He sighed and got to his feet fixing a smile on his face even if she couldn't see it. "You're feeling a little better, I see."

{AN: Bwahaha. Okay, Vic-dolls too! Why not. We'd be collector's edition bobble head dolls! Hahahaha! That would be great. Well, maybe it makes Kain feel a bit better XD. Yup! We can start wrapping it up now, I think, because I've drama-ed Blythe out. Heh.}

"You should...?" Blythe shook her head, but only slowly as anything more forceful would rip it apart. The pulsing in her mind was chilling, sleeping, and hopefully it would stay that way. Maybe there wouldn't be a seizure after all. Maybe all she needed was to get emotional, to release some of the stress in her. The pain could be bearable if only she loosened up. "You should not be sorry, Kain. I would not have known what to do had I been in your position. If you had not come, why I...I may have been in a much worse condition."

She repositioned herself on the bed, leaning against the wall. "And I...I think I am. It still hurts, but not as it did." She twirled her fingers in the foreign robes. "You needn't stay any longer. I think I may be able to tend to myself now. You were...you were wonderful. And I cannot thank you enough."

((ooc: There would be riots at the store as people trampled each other to buy us! Only a little. x3 Well, it was a dramatic situation. D:))

The smile wasn't quite so forced now, and Kain was somewhat comforted by her words. He still couldn't shake the feeling that he'd messed things up, but decided that it wasn't important at the moment. "Well...I'm glad I could help, even a little." This whole situation had reminded him of being on the battlefield. The best he could do was try and make sure that the injuries of whoever he was stopping to help didn't get worse until someone who knew what they were doing showed up.

Blythe seemed like she could use the time alone, and Kain believed her when she said she was feeling a little better. At least she didn't look as bad as she had before. "There's no need to thank me," he insisted, "And...I guess I'll let you have some time alone. Just send me a message if you need me, alright?"

Kain strode over to the door, and paused, glancing over his shoulder. "You get well soon, Blythe."
