Bang, Bang, My Baby Shot Me Down
Who: Rascal and Mitch
Where: Inside, on top of, and all around Niflheim
When: The day after the party, after Will gets Henry out of Niflheim
Rating: PG-13 to R
Warnings: Language, epic fighting!
Summary: Sal finally gets his hands on Mitch, but Mitch fights back in ways no one expected.
Note: This is the third installment of the Mitch/Sal/Henry/Will Kidnapping Thread

Sal couldn't believe it. She'd gotten three shots in, knew she'd gotten Henry twice as they made their way out the door, but wasn't sure what else. All she knew was that Mitch was pissed - pissed and ready to keep her from finishing the job.

The two of them stood face-to-face, no more than five feet away, three fists curled and one gripping a gun. This was it.

Sal raised the gun to the boy's eye-level, her grey eyes piercing into Mitch's. And with the darkest, most monotone voice that could be conjured, she said: "You made me miss."

Even though he knew that what he was doing was pretty stupid, Mitch didn't care right then. He helped Will help Henry get out, and that was how it was supposed to go. For now, the fire starter felt a surge of self-preservation, but he wasn't using that surge to run like hell, like maybe he should have, but to stand before this devil.

Hazel eyes held the gaze of gray. Mitch knew that he'd do whatever was necessary to buy the others the time they needed to get to safer ground. He wouldn't let her win.

"Damn. Sucks to be you."

The wall of fire, which had helped Will and Henry escape, was dying down quickly. Mitch didn't want to burn down the place while he was still in it, immune to fire but not to smoke. He wasn't immune to bullets either, but he still took a step forward.

"You have what you asked for. But I ain't that easy to keep."

Arm still holding the gun directly at Mitch, fire scorching it from the underside, Sal bit her tongue in risk of yelling her head off in dismay and frustration. They were gone - that bastard child let them get away. And while she was thrilled to have Mitch there right before her, she couldn't get her shot in now.

Unless...

Sal grinned.

"Well, you're just gonna have to prove me wrong, then, won't you." And with that, Sal landed a roundhouse kick to the center of Mitch's chest, sending him flying back as the wall of fire burned itself out. She stepped to him and grabbed him by hair on his scalp, lifting him so they were almost cheek-to-cheek. The muzzle of the gun was pressed into the underside of Mitch's chin.

"I need to go take care of some business, Mitch. You can try to come after me, but you won't get out of this room in one piece. Don't try to miss me too badly, okay?"

{AN: Mitch can still get a few shots in before he storms out; I'm not saying Sal is leaving right then and there. As for the vines, he can burn them long enough to get through, I think. Sound good?}

{Roger, roger! Thank you, dah'ling!}

The kick would've sent the air out of him had it been lower, but it still did its job effectively in surprising the hell out of Mitchell and doing some damage.

He wanted to believe that he'd have bounced up immediately to continuing fighting, but Sal had beat him to that by pulling the teen up by his hair. If that didn't hurt enough, she then shoved a gun underneath his chin. It cut off whatever retort he would've made, but it didn't stop him from growling through a grimace.

Before he proved that he could use his legs just as well as Sal, Mitch tried his best to twist out of the way of the gun's barrel, having no desire to be shot in the head. As he pushed himself away, sending a short wave of fire into Sal's face, he kicked out at Sal's shin, prayed it connected, then followed up with a right hook.

The attempted kick to the shin failed, but the right hook went right where Mitch intended, along with the fireball. The fire she'd been able to avoid (a charred nose would be none too attractive) by a mere fraction of an inch, her eyes widening as it ignited and died right in front of her.

The incident sent Sal stumbling back, but in the process, she scrambled for any loose article of clothing on Mitch's body - snaring his shirt - and yanked him down with her. Using the momentum of the fall, she swung him down, her lean body falling on top of his.

Her jaw was throbbing, but the pain wouldn't throw her concentration. Rather, her free hand went to Mitch's throat and squeezed. She hadn't intended to kill him, but rather suffocate him into unconsciousness.

The boy took satisfaction in that hit, but it was short-lived. Before he could decide whether he should stay or turn tail and run, catch up with the others, Sal made that decision for him.

Once Mitch went down, he struggled with an animalistic desperation. He grabbed her wrist and tugged as hard as he could, allowing a dash of oxygen to keep him going.

Unfortunately, trying to keep from suffocating and controlling fire at the same time wasn't working too well. He couldn't focus on his aim, and if he tried to burn Sal right then, she might go for her gun next. Flames rose up all around them, but that wasn't stopping his oppponent. Mitch didn't think he could keep this up for much longer.

'Can I fake it?' If Sal called this bluff... well, he wasn't going to think about that. While keeping just enough air so that he wouldn't really pass out, Mitch slowly stopped struggling. It wasn't easy, but he forced his limbs to relax little-by-little.

With a seemingly final glare, his eyes rolled back and closed, and a gasping hiss escaped from his throat.

Mitch seemed to pass out rather quickly, and Sal tilted her head as the boy's eyes rolled back into his head. This was too good to be true.

No, seriously, it was too good to be true.

So Sal released her grip on Mitch's head and did much the same thing that she did to Henry - slammed the butt of the gun against his head. Not hard enough to bleed, but hard enough that if the boy woke up, he'd be in too much pain to get up.

Mitch didn't move.

Snarling, Sal got off him, leaving his body on the floor, and made her way out of the room and to the nearest flight of stairs. She needed to get to the roof!

[ooc: sorry if this seems totally unrealistic, but I don't really have a choice. o.o]

He bit his tongue, hard. It took everything Mitch had to not make any noise, and he couldn't keep from blacking out for a few moments. But for some reason (probably owing to will power and sheer stupidity) he came to pretty quickly, with a raging headache the likes he'd never felt before.

"Shiiiiiiiiiit," he hissed through his teeth. Instead of using more energy to speak, he worked on getting up. He kept his thoughts to himself, not wanting to alert Sal (though she was most certainly long gone). 'C'mon, move move move move MOVE GODDAMN IT MOVE!'

After managing to roll over, Mitch finally sat up. Floorboards were still smoldering - maybe he wasn't too late. It was a bitch to ignore the pain, but a real bitch was about to shoot his friends to hell, if she hadn't already. That thought propelled him to his knees.

{AN: I think you did fine! ^^}

As Mitch was waking up down below, Sal was making her way across the roof of Niflheim, hardly concerning herself with important things like caution or balance. Still, she managed to find her way over to the nearest turret in record speeds. The code was typed in and the sniper's codes unlocked.

Down below, she watched with predatory, hungry eyes as Will half-carried Henry down the hill to the woods. They weren't moving too quickly, but they'd gotten a fair way. If Sal hadn't knocked out Mitch sooner, they would have been a secure distance away and she never would have gotten her chance.

Focusing the scope, Sal zoomed in on the pair of fleeing men.

"This little piggy went to the market..." She grinned sadistically as she prepared to blow Will's right leg to smithereens.

(Thank you, dah'ling!)

The next item on Mitch's to-do list was to burn up the vines around the door that were barring his way. He stumbled out into the hallway and leaned against the wall for a brief pause. Just in case some Niflheimer popped out of nowhere, he readied a fireball in his hand. 'Now where the hell did she go?'

Footsteps pounded against the ceiling. 'The roof! Sal's gonna...' The main stairs lead up to the roof presumably, but there was an opened door nearby, revealing another set of stairs.

The redhead ran as fast as he could, arriving just in time to catch Sal taking aim from the turret, and no doubt Will and Henry were still in sight.

There was no time to think about what he was going to do. He just did it.

Launching his body and his fireball across the roof towards Sal, he yelled, "WE'RE NOT DONE YET, ASSHOLE!"

So consumed was Sal in preparing to eliminate Will and Henry from afar, she never heard the heavy, hot approach of Mitch at speeds that even she would have considered foolish on this roof.

But the fireball was a sure sign that she was not alone, as it nuked the mouth of the sniper only three feet away from her face. Sal leaned back, upset and enraged, as Mitch's scream echoed over the rooftop.

In record speeds, Sal was up and prepared for Mitch's onslaught, rage just as apparent in every fiber of her being as it was in Mitch's - that little shit torched her baby and killed her opportunity!

"LIKE HELL WE AREN'T, TOASTY." She charged back. "THIS ENDS NOW."

Now that Sal's opportunity was ruined, one would think that it would be a good idea to run like hell and escape from this loonybin. But running was far in the back of Mitch's mind, as his reckless rage took control. His eyes saw nothing but Sal drenched in flaming red.

He charged in swinging, and probably would have swung his ass off the roof entirely if Sal's body wasn't there.

Mitch's punch was a success and Sal had the lack of air in her lungs to prove it. But it certainly was no victory sweep on his part, as Sal landed her own blow into his shoulder. It was a stalemate sort of shot, where she gave as good as she got. But even as her body screamed in pain and her fist cheered for its goal, the bloodlust in Mitch's eyes was undeniable. Very close together, she could see every detail of heathen red hate burning in his eyes - almost literally.

Sal grinned.

"Let's get ready to tumble." She laughed, happy to be corny in a time like this. Because just as she said so, the fist that nailed Mitch's shoulder snared his shirt and spun him towards the edge of the roof. "Let's see you flame on, hot shot! Here's your big chance!"

His shoulder didn't appreciate that particular hit, but Mitch gritted his teeth and took it. There'd be more pain to come and no time to complain about it.

As Sal spun Mitch towards the edge of the roof, he tried to gain some balance. In the meantime, he got an eye-full of the drop below him: jutting platforms that could probably break a fall, if one could aim that fall. He really didn't WANT to fall, but he had a bad feeling that it was going to happen anyway.

"How about THIS?!" Reaching over his shoulder, Mitchell grabbed Sal's wrist and focused his power to burn that wrist.

The wrist was burned, the leather suit melting under the heat of Mitch's fire. It seared into her skin and she shrieked like a startled cat, which was a sound Sal herself had never in her 27 years had heard. More than any wound, any scar, that would be her greatest shame.

"That does it!" She snarled, knowing full well what this meant.

Mitch was going down. And she was going to have to go with him.

Sal maneuvered her foot, swiped out one of Mitch's legs from under him, and pushed as hard as she could into him, sending them both barrelling off the roof of Niflheim.

Before they hit the first landing, the boy crossed his arms in front of his face, though he had little hope that he wouldn't break something on the way down. Then he smashed into that landing and screamed as he continued falling with Sal's weight on his back.

Life strangely did not flash before his eyes as Mitch fell. Only broken plaster, wood, and glass flying in slow motion caught his gaze as their bodies crashed down level after level after level (or so it felt like).

Then everything stopped for a moment as they landed on the ground in front of Niflheim's entrance. Mitchell had a breath, relieved that that ride was over, before realizing that Sal was still on top. "Oh, shit."

'Oh shit' was right, as even Sal felt her limbs pulse and creak as she tried to stand up. That was quite a tumble they had, and she hadn't anticipated the levels of building they'd be slamming into. She had hoped the weight of her throw off the building would have made it a clear shot to the bottom.

Go figure she'd be wrong.

Standing over the boy, Sal could tell that she had probably two or three broken fingers in her left hand, but she tightened them around the grip of one of her guns. Pain was gain, and they would heal in time. She'd still fire a gun with deadly accuracy regardless. She raised an eyebrow at him.

"Get up." she commanded, discovering that it was rather hard to breathe. "It's no fun when you're down there."

"It ain't? Huh." Coughs and laughter rang out, renewing the air in Mitch's lungs. He felt a few drops of blood slid down his forehead. "Woulda never guessed, since yer the one that, hah, pushed me down here in the first place."

Nothing like a near-death experience to sober one up. Though his legs weren't too steady, they weren't broken either, and that was good enough for his stubborn sense of self-preservation. Back towards his assailant, he slowly pushed himself up on his feet while his pounding heart expected to feel a bullet at any second.

He turned his head to look at Sal, and spotted a broken window frame that hadn't yet fallen. "Sal, catch!" He threw a fireball at the window, but didn't stop to watch the thing fall.

He ran.

Mitch's reaction had been just as sudden as everything else that had happened that day, but at this point, Sal'd gotten used to it.

Perhaps too used to it.

The fireball flew, and at first Sal had made to dodge it, but she was surprised that it went completely over her head. Luckily, fireballs didn't fly at the speed of bullets, and so she was allowed plenty of time to watch it strike one of the windows. As she jogged out of the way, feeling the heat of the shattered glass falling behind her, her broken fingers pulled at the gun.

She grinned to herself. "Shame I don't wanna kill him..."

The gun was fired, aiming straight for the back of Mitch's left knee.

He just made it into the woods as the gun went off. A quick turn towards the town of Emptiness saved Mitch's knee, but the bullet hit a nearby tree and splinters from the blast hit his leg, making him stumble a bit.

'I've gotta stop makin' stupid mistakes like that. Next fireball is going in her face.'

...If Sal caught up with him, which was likely to happen since Mitch wasn't exactly in the best condition. Once he reached the pavement and concrete, it was a little easier to run across than the rocks and dirt. The boy kept moving, certain that she would chase him.

That son of a bitch!

Never in all of Sal's years had she missed a single target completely, and the fact that this boy got away without a SINGLE bullet in him made Sal want to go all the way to Asgard herself, risk catching on fire by going inside, and finish him off in front of everyone else.

No...

No, no.

No, while this wasn't supposed to have happened, that didn't mean it was over. There would be more times, more opportunities. Mitch would become hers - him and his power. With someone like him under her nail, she could overrule both Asgard and Niflheim. She just needed to find a way in.

"Very well, Mitch. Until next time."

And she walked back inside, cradling her broken fingers in her other bloody hand.

He didn't even pause to check out the sights of Emptiness, not while he was running. Several times, Mitch thought he heard gunshots, though later he'd realize it was just his mind tricking him. He didn't stop until he reached Asgard, where he collasped on the steps to catch his breath at last.
