A Cop and a Religious Exorcist...?
Who: Alice and Will
Where: Room 103 - Alice and Blythe's room
When: After Will and Alice's discussion through the communication system.
Rating: PG, subject to change.
Warnings: None at the moment.
Summary: Inwardly, Alice is both fretful of the other members of Asgard as well as increasingly disturbed by some of the public conversations between certain individuals. At the same time, Will Graham offered to tell her about what happened since her time period on the now 'modern Earth', and asked if he could visit. Of course, Alice agreed.

Alice had made sure the pretty, comfortable victorian room of medium blues was as clean as it could be for the visitor. Her platinum blonde hair was neatly in its bun, her clothing was neat, her stockings were pulled up modestly... She'd even propped the door open to make it seem like Mr. Graham was welcome. He was welcome, very much so! But she wasn't sure what would be off-putting and what wouldn't with these people. She was just trying her best to seem like someone others could rely on.

And yet...Alice finally sunk onto her bed and held her head in her gloved hands for a moment. Alice had travelled through cities filled with corpses, where organs were broken and on display across the street. She'd seen blood splatters where they shouldn't exist. She knew how monstrous some could be, and knew how kind one could be despite a monstrous appearance. Yuri, after all, had been able to transform into terrible, monstrous-looking forms...but she'd grown accustomed to that. Yuri's abilities helped them protect others.

What Alice had trouble stomaching was the absolutely crude imagery that Ryuzaki and Yagami had been...threatening each other with. Castration, torture, irreparable surgeries designed to make someone's body a prison... She shuddered. Was it simply a brave face? How could someone truly desire to do that...? Someone in Asgard wanted to do such a thing?

It made her feel sick.

Cleaning the room had made her feel better for a moment, but now she needed distraction again. She had strength, she knew it. She hadn't gone crazy from everything she'd seen yet, after all! But things that she didn't expect, when they were so dark...so cruel... She had difficulty with it.

She pulled herself up from the bed and turned the chair at her desk around to face the rest of the room. She sat there, her knees close to each other, her ankles crossed. She sat in a very proper manner, with her back straight and her gloved hands resting in her lap as she tried to push those dark thoughts from her mind. But that only caused her concern about everything else to flood in. What can I do for everyone...?

She shook her head and forced a small smile. Strength. Strength. She would be strong for the ones who needed it. She could falter behind the scenes, when no one was looking, if she had to. But Mr. Graham was coming and she wanted to show him - and everyone else - that she was someone to place trust in. Eventually she'd be able to help them. Eventually there would be a time. Her smile relaxed and became more natural as she thought about it.

(OOC: You win so hard for that title.)

Will closed is eyes, leaning against the hallway wall for a moment. He had a raging headache and the lights did nothing to improve it. Taking a deep breath, he opened up his room, changing out of the clothes he'd passed out in and gathering up the print-outs he'd made for Ms. Elliot. He made sure the folder he'd placed them into was clean of any dust and started off for the young woman's room.

There were so many things going on right now, his- was it friendship? his talks with Henry, helping out Mr. Sund-- Frank, with Rosa, watching TV with Dorian, and how could he ever forget his little chats with the other side. He wanted to see how they operated, what they thought, even if it put himself at great risk (what was Dante going to ask of him in exchange?). Honestly, he couldn't bring himself to worry about it. He looked hideous as it was with the scars on his face, what would a few more do to him?

And now there was Ms. Elliot... She was so nice to him, and now something was wrong. Will bit his lip as he walked towards her room, taking a deep breath. Whatever it was, he hoped he could make it better, or at least get her mind off of whatever was troubling her.

He stopped up short at her door, reminded very suddenly of Lecter- of all the nights he would drop in after nothing more than a hasty, unintelligible phone call to find the door ajar, some comforting scent (usually coffee) coming out of it.

Finding no such caffeine smell put Will a little more at ease as he eased the door open a bit more, not wanting to push his welcome. "Ms. Elliot? It's Will Graham..."

(OOC: Aw, thank you!)

Alice stood up at his words and made a slight, quick curtsy out of politeness before gesturing into the room. There were a few comfortable chairs - the front of the room was more like a cozy meeting place. Her room clearly lacked most of the modern comforts of his...but it was all Alice needed. "Oh! Please, step inside. You're welcome here."

She didn't falter at the sight of his scars. She wondered where they were from, what had caused them...but she kept those thoughts quiet. Many people had scars, after all. Some were just more notable. And oddly, she was beginning to find that the stranger one's physical form(s) could be, even through scars, the more kindness there was...even if it was just waiting to be unlocked. "It's good to finally meet you face to face, Mr. Graham." Her English accent was clear as she spoke.

Will gave a small bow before he realized what he was doing (Lecter again. Everything was reminding him of that man now.) and did as requested, holding the folder a little tightly. He flinched a little at her words (he knew what he looked like) but extended a hand without further incident. "Likewise, Ms. Elliot."

The room again reminded him of Lecter. Just what was needed to be comfortable, without any other frivolity and the odd this and that. His headache doubled in an instant, and he craved the rum back in his room. Back in Florida he'd dealt with hangovers by drinking. It worked every time.

"I've... got some stuff for you.." he extended the folder, a little picture of a city skyline pasted to the front.

(OOC: Poor Will. Alice has no idea that she's disturbing him with the similarities. XD I hadn't thought about it either!)

Alice took his hand and shook it gently before letting go. Still...she felt like something was off, though she couldn't put her finger on it. Perhaps it was just how awkward they were. "Thank you," she said softly, taking the folder carefully and blinking at the sight of the city skyline. "Are towers really so tall in your present?" she said in awe, her blue eyes wide open now. She glanced at him, then the picture again. "Or is this a model...or am I confused about what i'm seeing?"

(OOC: Will's so messed up that the word "popsicle" would probably remind him in SOME WAY of SOMETHING. xDDD I've got him almost a year after the Red Dragon incident, so he's kind of neurotic. xDD)

Will's gaze softened a little, making him appear to be almost the good-looking teacher he was before meeting so many terrible people. He shook his head, pointing to the towers. "Nono, these are real... This is where I once lived, in Maryland. Actually, they're not even the biggest in the world." Talking about such simple things made him feel better for some reason. He always loved skylines; they reminded him of fingerprints.

Her eyes widened even more as her gaze lifted from the picture to his in disbelief. Yet at the same time, she clearly trusted what he was saying. "There are towers that are even taller?" she whispered excitedly. "Oh, that's simply amazing! But...but isn't it dangerous?" That blue-eyed gaze filled with concern as the fingertips of a gloved hand partially obscured her lips. "How can the towers be stable and be so tall?"

Will now wished he'd paid more attention to that show he watched on that tall building in Japan. He scratched the back of his head, brows knitted as he tried to recall what he'd heard to completely answer her question, pointing at one of them as he spoke. "If I remember right, part of it is the design. They're thicker on the bottom and thinner on top, so the weight doesn't make them fall over. Then underground" his finger moved to the bottom of it, "the builders dug a really deep hole, and part of the tower is down inside, the supports, I think they're called. Anyway, they're made of cement and steel, and help keep the tower in place. I think in some places, where there's a lot of earthquakes, the towers are actually built to sway a little." Now that Will actually thought about it (the show was really just background noise), the idea of such high structures and what they could do was pretty amazing. He resolved to research it and share what he found with Alice.

She listened intently, clearly interested in what he was saying. The way he explained it made sense. It was very much like...pyramids, hadn't they been called? Or how smaller towers were always build coming out of much larger buildings. "That's fascinating," she breathed. "I wonder how a building can sway and still keep standing." She glanced at him. "Buildings are becoming more like people now, I suppose," she smiled to herself at that tiny observation and opened the folder carefully to peer within.

Will nodded; he had to agree. Something about the type of rebar used? ...Did they even use rebar? Now he was itching to find out.

He couldn't help a softening look at her words, remembering what Frank had said about Henry, his thoughts again turning to their expedition.

"There's... been a lot of bad stuff, but I tried not to dwell on it. Amazing things have happened, like in a stadium in America... they've recreated the shades that came down over the Coliseum in Rome, so people watching a game played there will be kept out of the sun." His eidetic memory made him a vast trove of bizarre and often useless knowledge.

"That's amazing!" she whispered, peeking through the file of information as he spoke. Her eyes scanned everything with interest - every word, every detail, every speck on an image. She didn't necessarily understand everything she saw, but she made a point to try. What she didn't, she'd ask about eventually or figure it out.

"The world has changed so much," she murmured as she continued to look through the images. "But i'm certain that some things remain the same. Yet..." she glanced up curiously. "Mr. Graham, is the Vatican different now?"

He watched as she flipped slowly through the folder he'd put together quickly for this meeting, remembering all the things he'd read on each page and feeling almost ready to explain something if she stopped and asked him for it.

At her question, Will had to think a moment. From what he knew, changes to the Vatican were amazingly hard to put into action. "Not that I know of... I don't think they allow shorts?"

She nodded with a smile. "I think I would be surprised, if the Vatican itself changed." Alice returned to looking through the folder, content. "You are very kind to do this for me, Mr. Graham. Thank you."

Then she frowned mildly again and lifted up the image of a television. "What is this square box for? I'm not sure I understand."

((ooc: For some reason the only subject I can think of her asking about is WWII...xD))

Will shook his head, tilting his head a little at the image before pointing at it, too. "It's a television... we call them TVs for short.. They show moving pictures that people act out, like plays."

There was that nostalgia, again. He always did love plays, didn't he?

"Oh, my. That sounds fascinating," Alice murmured before flipping to a page with information on the second world war. Her eyes widened. "They...Mr. Graham, is this true?" Her expression turned so sad in that moment, thinking of all the pain that must've occured. "There was another world war? Why?"

Will felt his chest tighten at her expression. He wanted to try and comfort her, but he had no idea how. The usual methods he'd employed were moot at this point, he didn't have his worn (loved) leather jacket to put around her shoulders, and he wasn't even sure she'd take kindly to coffee if he had a quick way of getting it to her.

He spoke gently and skirted the worst issues as best as he could, "Ultimately it was because of over-population and land battles.." At least, on the Japanese side that reason was the most prevalent. The rest of Europe seemed to be a cluster of insanity and attempts to keep their land.

She lifted her fingertips to cover her lips as she thought about it. "I see...still, that's terrible. I don't think words can quite share how terrible a world war is, really...but...i'm glad that it didn't ruin the world. After all, the world is still a place where you can live, and so many others who are here. Certainly there wouldn't be so many people from that time now if it hadn't gotten better," she smiled. At least there was something positive to pull out of it? "Do you think most countries learned their lesson? Was there ever another world war after it...?"

Will gave a wry sort of smile, nodding. "No, there hasn't been a third.. I think people learned their lesson about world wars after the second one." Or so he hoped. Then again, he'd seen some bad sides of humanity.

"Because of the war, though, technology got a kick start." He said, trying to find a good aspect to it.

"That's good," she smiled back. "The technology too, i'm certain. It's...very strange to me, I admit, but the technology i've seen in Asgard does seem very nice. Some of it scares me though. There's this thing in the kitchen that has extremely sharp blades, and if you press a button they start to swirl around. It looks more like a weapon," she said with a sincere frown. The thing had been extremely odd - it had a top cover over the glass portion that held the spinning blades, which was very necessary with such sharp things - but why have something like that in a kitchen? Was it an emergency weapon for if danger intruded?

Yeeah. XD I was wondering though, would you mind terribly if you started the next Alice and Will thread? I think it would be more neat to read/story-wise if it began with Will in his room, even if it's just him bemoaning what's going on or whatever, and then Alice could reply and be all interrupting via door knockery? (Awh, really? \o/ Yay, I don't feel so weird now! I think it's longer than my Will application, for some reason. He's just such an interesting character from a psychological stand-point, and I really do want to play that angle of him without revealing too much. I am trying to play him as close to MGS2 as I possibly can, but I figure that with Kojima at the helm, I can probably slip in a few oddities.

Or... you know.
