Question For The Silent Hill Fanatics
So, guys, I'm thinking very seriously on trying out for Vincent from Silent Hill 3. Thing is, I want your ideas on how you think his personality would have been like if he weren't trying to stop a god from being born, you know? Any suggestions are very much welcomed, as well as an good info on The Order. I've only fully played SH3 and parts of SH2 and SH4 (still playing SH4 right now, SH2 is on hold in order to play SH4), so, of course, as much information as I can get would be greatly appreciated.

I really can't contribute much in the way of SH because I have barely played the first one and I played the demo for the 4th.

And speaking of SH4 (the main reason for my comment): Damn those stupid ghosts! They need to stay fucking dead!

Once again, sorry for not being helpful, but I'm not really hugely versed in SH.

Bwahahahahahaha! Sorry, I'm just vastly amused because I've surfaced for food from my own playing (or more like dissecting, really) of SH4, and I recently screamed that nearly word for word while dealing with one of the Forest World ghosts.

I cannot wait until the second half of the game. I shall have my revenge.

Oh gods, I hated the fucking ghosts... And all I played was the demo!

What happens in the 2nd half?

They're in all the damn worlds. :/

You get stuff that helps you deal with the ghosts. :D

In Forest World, with the rusty key you dig up at the hand tree?

What you have to do is get the key, continue to the next area where there will be a ghost - the very ghost I was cursing at, because it kept getting in my way - a golf club and a portal. Go through the portal, dump the key in the chest, go back through the hole, run back to Wish House, go through the Wish House portal, grab the key, go back through the hole so you're in the Wish House Courtyard with the key.

Essentially, you can't have the key in your inventory when you try to leave by the paths, or you will be 'doomed to wander'. Mmmm, vague puzzles! SH4 is full of them!

... Jasper?

Walter: D:!

XD;; I'm actually on the second part in the forestworld. Steve Garland? DX He pissed me off the most. Of course, Richard will be one of the worst. He's angery cause he can't float, and he's got a pipe, and he can teleport. Humm... Andrew will be plain awkward, and Jasper might be a little less of a pain than Richard but a little "uuuuuh..."

I'll probably hit the second part today. I'm playing more to analyze itty bitty character details than anything else, but I'm still pretty much flying through it. mmm, third playthrough. Argh, the ghosts in the second half. At least St Medallions and the swords come in handy then. I just pin Richard ASAP, and Andrew I use the good old silver bullet to knock him down and skewer him.

Oh man, I wish I could be of more help, but SH3 is the game I'm least familiar with. But Vincent was my favorite of the cast, so, um, yay potential Vincent!

BUT! For tons of character discussion and theorizing, Silent Hill Heaven's SH3 Board is a pretty good place. Also plot discussion, symbolism, etc. Pretty much everything you could think of regarding the SH games, all debated and hashed out between die hard fans. And most often, intelligent and literate die hard fans!

I'd also recommend the SH3 board over at Silent Talk

I'll try to answer your questions as best as possible.

The Moon Wall of Death has translated Silent Hill Chronicles (aka Lost Memories) along with a few other things. This really comes in handy when you want to learn something about the character.

Also, personally I used to play Vincent myself, and I've always played him as a sardonic man who loves the pleasures of this world. I have also played him as someone who will listen, and help someone, but only if it benefits him.

Moving on...

The Order.

First off there are three different main sects of the Order. There's the sect of the Holy Mother, the sect of the Holy Woman, and the sect of Valtiel. The sect of the Holy Mother operated Wish House and used it to find the conjurer. They believe(d) that God (the Holy Mother) would come down only if the Conjurer performed the 21 Sacraments.

The sect of the Holy Woman centered around Dahlia Gillespie (a priestess of the Order). They believed that God would be born by placing the Child God inside of a woman who had special powers. Silent Hill Origins confirms this by stating that only a person with extreme mental capabilities can be used at the vessel for God.

Also the birth of God in this case is more of a transformation, that causes the "mother" of God to actually be transformed into the God, at the risk of losing their humanity.

The sect of Valtiel centered around the priest Jimmy Stone. This sect worshiped Valtiel as a being closest to God, (It's widely believed that Valtiel is the Metatron of the Order). The priests of this sect would dress and act as executioners all while wearing red robes. This sect also mediated between the sect of the Holy Woman, and the sect of the Holy Mother. It was also this sect that were trying to find Alessa (then Heather) and wanting to check on Walter's process.

The two rival sects were fighting, not because they believed in different Gods, but because they couldn't agree on how God should be born. The sect of the Holy Woman placed more emphasis on the mother of God. (Dahlia acts as the conjurer in this ritual). The sect of the Holy Mother placed more emphasis on the father of God. (Room 302 acts as the vessel)

I hope that helped.

Interesting...So, would Vincent have been more of a Holy Mother, Holy Woman, or just 'fuck you all, god doesn't have to come to earth in any form' kind of guy?

He was part of the Holy Woman sect.

Vincent was also the one that rebuilt the Order after it sort of went on hiatus after Dahlia's death back in 1980 or '83 *depends on which timeline you use*

There's a part in SH3 where Vincent says "I built this church with my power! The power of money which you view with such scorn!" It can be surmised that Vincent used his money to rehaul the Order.

As for Vincent's deal with God, he says that he fears and adores her, but he doesn't want her born because it'd be too unpredictable. He also mentions loving the pleasures of this world. I think Vincent knew if God were born, then his "paradise" would be gone.

*oh btw, I love talking about this shit. XD*

Keep talking, cuz I love listening/reading.

Yeah, I keep imagining one of Vincent's favorite places to go was Heaven's Night. It just seems...right.

"This is MY heaven, God. For some reason I don't think you'd like it...Hmm..Oh well."

:/ I can't help there, but... wimped out after the elevator cutscene.

I can tell you two awkward ... extras? that you can find inthe prison in SH2. :o

One involves a female bathroom, left side, I think, of the map. There's three stalls in the bathroom. The last one is locked. Press x to knock. try to leave, and something screams its bloody head off. :it was so quiet in the house, I tried to run out of my chair :/ didn't work too well. XD;;)

Now, then; the other thing is kinda paranoia-causing ---> there's this shadow thing in the middle of the northern row of cells that mumbles something. ._. I killed it. with the Great Knife. Heck yes. ;3</small>

In SH3 there's a bathroom thing where you knock on a stall and someone knocks back, but you open it and the toilet and stall is all bloody and empty.

OH MAN. Its real feaky when you KNOW there's no one home, you're playing a horror game, and there are sounds coming from the other side of the house.

Of course, you have to yell at the cat when you find out it was them, but it doesn't make it any less scary at the time DDD=

They're awesome games! :D

One of the ways a friend of mine minimizes the horror is to play in a brightly lit room, with happy music on in the background, and a walkthrough so she knows what's coming.

I on the other hand am the sort that play alone, in the dark, with headphones so every sound is amplified. The best was when I was playing SH1, which had the old elementary school. At the time, I lived in this old Victorian house and had the first floor to myself. The windows of my room looked out onto an old abandoned elementary school across the street. It has screwy wiring, and the lights would randomly flash on and off.
