Road Not Traveled OOC post
So I was thinking about this malfunction day and decided that since it involves significant rewriting of characters in most cases, it would be good to have a thread where everyone can post what road their character traveled instead of reality. This makes it easier for people to interact with the new versions of characters (since I would think in theory they've generally still been in the place together a while... correct me if I'm wrong).

So particularly anything that should be common knowledge should be posted here. If your character looks different in some way, make sure to mention that, too, since it's something that would be obvious. Other than that, feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you want. I just thought this would be a useful reference and I think it's fun to see what people did, too.

Reno--

Reno didn't become a Turk. He was offered the position, and turned it down. Instead, he made his own way, eventually becoming a big fish in the slums. He was the leader of some sort of criminal organization--violent, but not so much druggy, and not at all the sex slavery of Corneo's little empire. (Wiki page on Don Corneo, if you want it.) Reno thought Corneo was scum, eventually killed him, and a bunch of people who were mistreated under Corneo ended up following him (this does include a number of the Honeybees, for those familiar). He was very protective of the people who were with him, so they generally got a much better deal out of it. He had a somewhat uneasy relationship with ShinRa, since they didn't want him to be getting too much power, and it didn't really help that he'd outright turned down an offer to join the Turks.

In terms of major changes, he's cockier and very used to getting what he wants. He's vaguely antagonistic to other people in positions of authority, particularly if they're likely to try to put pressure on him, and particularly Rufus, because he's ShinRa. (Yes, this will be fun. *evil grin*) His physical appearance is also a bit different. He has some new Yakuza-esque tattoos of koi fish spreading across his shoulders and upper arms. (Placement something like this or this, with designs more like this. It's brightly colored, with the fish done in various patches of red, orange, and gold, and the surrounding water in a relatively bright blue. For the duration of the day, he'll be wearing a longish vest with no shirt under it, to kind of show off his tattoos, over a pair of black jeans. Not really the classiest or most interesting of the clothing this Reno might wear, but comfortable, and good for the crazy day.

There are more details because I've thought about this way too much, but they're not too relevant to anybody else, and most anything important will come out in his posts, anyway.

GLaDOS--

Will not actually be affected. She hasn't had a very long existence, or much in the way of life-changing decisions, so she's the same as she always was. This, of course, leaves her open to notice how weird everyone else is acting on this day. There will be much observation!

Now, everyone else's turn! ^^

Great idea!

Alessa Gillespie - Chose to give "birth" to the chief deity of Silent Hill. I place the word birth in quotation marks, because the whole birth of God appears to be more of a transformation. Alessa herself will take on the appearance and personality of the woman in white. In a nutshell, she'll look just as she does now, only surrounding by light, and wearing a white one piece dress.

Personality wise, Alessa/Incubator will be wanting to save everyone. And of course, save really means "destroy everything with fire." Don't worry, she's not going to succeed. Also, she'll claim that her name is Alizer.

Info: The Halo of the Sun has four names written in Runic. Dahlia, Alessa, Alizer, and Incubus. There's been all manner of theories about the identity of Alizer, and the one I subscribe to is the one that states that Alizer is the name of the entity that Alessa transforms into at the end of SH1.

Flauros/Melekiel - Didn't follow Mephistophelis/Letemael out of Heaven, and remained as one of God's holy angels. On this day, Flauros will go by the name "Melekiel" will actually be genuinely nice, and will speak the truth.

Raziel - Never wrote the Sefer Raziel, and as a result never grew as the angel of secrets or mysteries. On this day, Raziel will have no interest in learning, and will be watching all manner of mindless entertainment.

Mark - Never became a 'Christian' and is instead an atheist. Due to this, Mark has none of his abilities. (His power was awoken when he converted to Christianity. No conversion, no awakening, no power.) Will still act like a jackass, but not too badly.

I know my semi-hiatus notice still stands, but if no one sees Dorian posting for the next four days, it's because he's not here. He could have only made two very serious decisions in his earlier life, and if he had decided either one differently, he wouldn't be alive today. So Dorian won't be with us for four days. ;_;

Sal had decided to discover his mother's experiments, so he ran away from home at 8 and now has identity issues (but now comically so). He'll constantly be changins his opinions, morphing his body, and talking to as many people as I have time for him to bother. Sal's homunculus secret will also be revealed.

Blythe chose to follow in her brother's footsteps and is now somewhat sociopathic but a whole lot of arrogant. She'll still be pregnant (and blame the entire thing on a moment of weakness). She is going to be hateful of humans.

And Tailypo didn't choose the path in the forest that led him to the hunter who took his tail. He's going to have it back. He's still going to hate mankind, but his poetry will be more of his love for killing and having great times than having vengeful slaughtering fests.

Sandalphon's will be that she chose to sacrifice her brother instead of falling from grace. She, too, will be gone - but more in hiding than anything else.

Thanks for making this thread! I suppose I have it easy with just one character..

Grimmjow chose not to lead the other Hollows (Shawlong, D-Roy, Ilforte, etc) as their 'king' when he encountered them so many years ago. Without his posse, he was unable to gain strength as quickly and escaped Aizen's immediate notice when the latter started to fabricate Arrancar. Because of this, he is still the adjunchas-class Hollow that was noted in his backstory. He still a powerful Hollow - just nowhere near as strong as an Arrancar, much less an Espada. Also, he looks completely different. His adjuchas form looks like a white panther with natural, bony armor as a sort of exoskeleton. Although very small for an adjuchas, I figure that he would probably be around the size of a small horse or pony. He is capable of speaking, and he still does have the hollow hole boring straight through his abdomen. His personality might even be a bit easier for some to deal with - with less pronounced mood swings, but still very much that of a feral cat.

Midvalley never became a Gung-Ho Gun or followed Knives. He's still cocky and self-assured, but a lot less bitter. Also he never killed anyone, though he figures he ended up in hell due to smoking, drinking, and sex. He's still a jazz musician, in fact even more of a musician if that's possible.

In terms of canon, the most significant thing Frank could do would be to keep baby Walter, but since Walter is in this game that could get confusing to work out. So I'm going with my fanon: Frank told his wife Judith to stay in college and did not marry her. In fact he never married anyone or had a son, though he still became the superintendent in South Ashfield Heights. He's a lot more withdrawn and a little "nuttier" but also less serious in some ways.

Eileen never gave Walter her doll, and was never his victim. (This could also conflict with Walter being a player here, but I'm hoping it's OK if we say this is what happened in Eileen's reality.) She doesn't know Henry very well at all except as her neighbor who once disappeared for a few days, though she still thinks he's cute. She herself is more cheerful and outgoing, more shocked by violence, and isn't much of a fighter. (Though if anyone attacked her she could pick it up quickly as she did in the game, I think.)

Since I'm really busy right now with a summer class, I'm going to take an easy way out for two of my characters. Since both of them were asked to come here, Sydonai and Emerald will have decided to not come to this realm and so are back in their worlds doing what they would each originally be doing.

Christopher Carrion will not be wearing his "fish tank" nightmare glass-thing because in this reality-altering day, he did not create something to physically manifest his nightmares. This has caused him to go insane, and this madness will have greatly weakened him - so while he'll openly threaten characters with violence, he won't actually be able to do anything about it, physically or magically.

Mitch will be much more standoffish, bully people when they talk to him, and his powers will be a bit out of control since his decision was to not train them.

Yako refused Neuro's offer when he first appeared to her, and chose to find out the truth of her father's murder through her own abilities. This leads her on a slow, downward spiral of 'anything goes', leading her to enter the illegal 'Underworld'. Neuro still shadows her from time to time, out of spite for her refusal.

She solved mysteries as surreptitiously as she could, but was outed as a detective a bit before she met Sai. Sai was intrigued by her, since this version was the first to tell him apart from the 'originals' he replaced. He became fixated on tearing her apart first, and Neuro second.

A thing that must be understood about this Yako: she clings to blood relations. She spent so much time, and worked so hard, telling herself it was all for her father, that 'family' is an almost obsessive concept for her. When she finally pieced together that Sai was her brother, she offered to let him tear her body apart, believing that the rapid cell-regeneration she had been born with might save him. However, neuro intervened, Sai's memory reset, and the next morning her brother had vanished.

Yako is much, much less innocent. She never turned to prostitution, but she's sharp-tongued, hot-tempered when provoked, and sarcastic.

For Walter, There are a few places that are significant, but he can't change, such as going to the Wish House and fed all of that feel-good religion stuff. But, I'm picking the time where he killed Jimmy Stone to change it. He gets close, very close, but decides not to pull the trigger. So, Eileen nor Henry will not have be affected (as I said that Valtiel became more of an influence as he killed the victims off, I think) by him. (Along with Frank and Eileen player, this can be his reality as well). This means that Walter is alive instead of being dead, and Valtiel is not much of a presence (if at all). He'll hear whispers and things of that nature, but Val's opinions are ignored more often than not. He was going to college at the time, I think, so he still doesn't believe that he can revive his Mother (who's an apartment room).

Physically, nothing's really changed, except he doesn't have blood splatters all over him, and his coat is in tact, and his eyes will stay the same milky green. Emotionally, he'll be much more relaxed, and joke around with people readily (not like the class clown, but you get what I mean, right?)

For Schro, the major decision was to kill himself on the clock tower, but I took him before that time. The other was to be created, if I remember correctly. So, he won't exist. If I find something else that's significant that pertains to him, I'll comment it and say that he's still here just different in that he's blahblahblah. XD;

Rufus—

Instead of inheriting the world-controlling mega-company ShinRa Electric when he was 21, after his father's death at the hands of Sephiroth, Rufus has been president since he was 16, when he successfully staged an extremely hostile takeover and his father died— though not at Rufus' hands, still by his orders.

One of Rufus' first acts as President was to have the department he perceived as his father's lap/attack-dogs— the Turks —terminated. With a bomb.

He then had to protect his tenuous hold on the Presidency by becoming a completely and totally ruthless bastard— not that he wasn't in the usual timeline, but take that and magnify it by a LOT. He grew up faster, under constant assault from outside parties looking to wrest control from a "simple" 16 year old, and he learned fast to be cutthroat and to offer no quarter. With only minor hiccups here and there, he's ruled the world since before he had to shave: his sense of entitlement is massive, his sense of humor almost nonexistent, and he's not going to even bother pretending to be nice.

If you don't know the games/compilation, this next part'll be a bunch of gibberish, but bear with me:

For the sake of simplicity, I'm saying Rufus used Deepground to eradicate AVALANCHE long before Barret and Tifa and everyone came along. He also had the Jenova Project terminated early on in his presidency, probably via several bombs. This means Cloud Strife and Zack Fair were killed in captivity, and Hojo was killed with great relish. Cloud Strife therefore never gave Sephiroth the black materia, Sephiroth was left rotting in the northern crater, meteor was never summoned, the lifestream never rose to save the planet, and ShinRa never fell. The world climate is, however, very tedious, and despite the lifestream never rising, Jenova has other ways to activate the illness Geostigma and infect the world.

Rufus is only just showing the beginning stages of Geostigma. He'll be a little weak, and very, very, very leery of being touched. He can, however, see out of his left eye again, since he was never in the explosion that originally damaged his vision.

I definitely put too much thought into this... XD

Whoot, back just in time!

Maria was the hardest, as she didn't make terribly many decisions in her short, pre-RP existence, and none of them were exactly large - the one that is basically wouldn't change her much. But I decided to go with the idea that instead of the standard Silent Hill ending that is her in-game canon, instead of being rejected by James and that whole epic fight, she's now going to be as though the Maria ending took place. Which means she's a lot mellower, not so much a bitch, and isn't obsessing over James all the time. ;)

Henry never moved into South Ashfield Heights. He never went through anything that happened in the game. Which means he'll be a lot quieter, a lot less likely to stand up for himself, and just.... softer, I guess.

Myre never challenged her brother to a duel at the end of the first book. Because of that, her Lair never split, she wasn't shunned by her mother, and she's not so prejudiced against 'two-leggers'.

This was a great idea, thank you! <3

Kain

Kain will have chosen to become a dark knight when the offer was presented to him, due to a series of other choices earlier on in life that led him to place much less stock in the memory of his father and keeping that memory alive. He will have accepted the king as a true father figure and taken full advantage of his royal status. This means that Kain will not have ever served under Golbez unwillingly, and was at the head of the Red Wings after Cecil disappeared until Cecil came back to Baron to confront the king, at which point Kain would have followed him and aided him in defeated Zeromus. Kain's personality will have changed quite a bit. He won't be nearly as sensitive, and his self-esteem and ego will be through the roof. He'll have your stereotypical pompous sense of entitlement found in those of royal descent, but he will wield that pompousness in a cold, aloof, flippant way.

Banru

After brutally murdering Vanya (his love interest as a mortal), Banru decided to continue to serve Dorjin loyally. This means that he will have spent thousands and thousands of years slaughtering people and destroying civilizations willingly. Banru will not attempt to put up a gentlemanly front as he normally does. Instead, he'll be much like you've seen on the rare instances that his control over himself has slipped--only CONSTANTLY. He will be completely batshit insane, will want to kill anything that is humanoid and mortal, will be rather animalistic and childish in his speech and actions, and will be slightly more powerful as he will not be afraid to tap into the chaotic energies that hold him together. His mood will also swing randomly and violently, most of the time for no apparent reason.

(posting with Tohru’s journal because I don’t have posting access with L’s yet.)

L is coming into the game on the last day of the malfunction day, so…

L never became a detective. Instead he is a dissatisfied genius wandering from one project to the next trying to find his niche in life. He’ll be a lot less paranoid of people, friendly, and willing to talk about himself.

Am I happy that the game extended its days. Anyway, here's the stuff for Jazz and Vader.

Jazz never decided to oppose Megatron. Instead he did his duty as Protector's Heir and was thus able to somewhat gentle Megatron's volatile ruling style. Because of this the great Cybertronian civil war never managed to destroy the planet. Thus Jazz never followed Optimus Prime on his search for the Allspark and never even learned of Earth's existence.

As he had no significant contact with organic, gendered species his views on inter-racial relationships are a tiny bit xenophobic, i. e. he is debating with himself whether loving Midvalley is something he really should be doing. He considers Midvalley still his third, though.

Darth Vader never strangulated his wife to the point of unconsciousness before he became angry at her in a fit of jealous rage. Instead he only pushed her away from him and started his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi. The result of said duel are the same: he loses his legs and arm, he is drastically burned and he is stil the right hand of the emperor. What changed was that instead of being 'resued' by Obi-Wan and away from Vader, his wife stayed on Mustafar and found Vader's burned body. She stayed with Vader on the shore of a lava river and helped him stay awake. Sadly, the volcanic gases on Mustafar were not very healthy for the babies, which means that Luke and Leia did not survive their birth.

Darth Vader is still a Sith. He can still kill someone without batting an eye and has no scruples whatsoever, though he is significantly calmer because the 'betrayal' of his wife never happened.

Fifteen years after his children died, he became a part of the galactic rebellion against the empire. This Vader did not out of some kind of personal honour codex but because the emperor did not punish one of his courtiers whom had Vader's wife murdered in an attempt to break the Sith lord.

Darth Vader never went back to the 'light' side after he killed the emperor, but he also didn't follow the Sith way of only teaching one apprentice. In memory of his wife he re-opened the Coruscant temple and became a teacher for pilots.

Late due to work, but hopefully better now than never.~

Morana: When it came to the confrontation at the cliff, she decided not to take the abuse of the village children. She yelled back ind defiance, thus scaring them away into thinking she was the monster people claimed her to be. This meant she didn't scream and the little girl never died, but it also caused a new sense of bitterness in Morana. She begins to dislike, perhaps even hate her treatment, and sees the whole of the Lykke clan as the ones deserving of punishment. So, that night before going to Chaos Unraveled, she enters the village, being so threatening that the whole of the clan flees. She then sets the whole place on fire, destroying every trace of the belief system that branded her a bad omen, before retreating back into the forest, planning on living out a better life, though any human should not cross her if they know what's good for them.

Medusa: She did not get pregnant by whoever and thus never gave birth to Chrona. Without her daughter to merge with the weapon Ragnarok and the Black Blood, Medusa had to perform the testing on herself. Thus, she ended up much like Chrona in the mad bloodlust fits, losing all sense of fear or coherancy. Since there is no spells she can cast on herself to control the fits, gone in her ability to scheme and conive which is replaced with all out insanity. She never infiltrated Shibusen, and became so haphazard and dangerous that not only did Shinigami-sama have her on his list, the other witches saw her as danger. This means she has been on the run for years, causing destruction and collecting souls for experiments, though really she lacks any mind to do it practically now, and just devours them all in the end.
