Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Susan and Bob
WHEN: Wednesday evening
WHERE: DC Metro, some station (Jag has the laze)

Susan would likely have been grateful that she wasn't the one being kidnapped, if she had known about all of the abducting that was going on lately. To be sure, she had heard about Star's kidnapping, although she had paid more attention to the hospitalization of David's father. She'd called the poor man but he'd seemed distracted, and they hadn't talked long.

Now, though, Jonah was out of the hospital. David sounded more relaxed the brief time they'd spoken on the phone that second time, and things seemed to be going so much better.

They even, although Bastet grumbled and Susan had the feeling that to even think such a thing was to tempt fate, seemed to be settling down in the godhood department, too. Now if she could only settle things down in her own department at the Smithsonian...

Bob was traveling on the Metro with the picture Peter had given him in his pocket. He had asked several places about where to find the man in the photo but wans't having much luck. He looked around the car and thought he saw something specia about a dark haired woman sitting near him. As unobtrusively a spossible he moved to sit near her. "Hi, do I know you from somewhere?"

Ever since the Seth incident, Susan had been pretty damn wary of strangers on the Metro.

Still. There didn't seem to be anything the matter. You can always claw his eyes out later, Bastet opined helpfully.

"I don't think so..." she smiled. And tried not to make it full of teeth.

Bob tilted his head so that he wa slooking at her with one eye. "You look familiar somehow." He stuck out his right hand and reached into a pocket with his left to pull out the picture. "I'm Robert Chase. Have you seen this man?"

The woman's breath hissed out in a manner almost too feline to be normal. Like an angry cat. Her eyes widened, but she didn't answer him directly at first. Nor in English.

//Seteh, you crazy son of a she-goat. What have you gotten yourself into this time.//

Lifting her gaze back to Robert Chase: "His name is Seth. What has he done now?"

Bob kept a friendly expression on his face as he listened to words he didn't recognize. "Seth, yes that's int- right. He's in your famly, isn't he?" Bob didn't answer her question directly.

"Yes." Susan sighed, settling back a moment on the cold bench. Trains were always far too slow this time of night.

"Sad to say. He seems to be more deranged now than he was in the past, as well. More out of control."

She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. "What did he do now?"

"One of my sisters has disappeared. I was given reason to think he might know something about it." Bob replied, doing his best to keep the friendly facade. "You know my name. May I ask what yours is?" He was trying to be polite. Just because Seth was family didn't mean she knew or condoned what he did. That could be like expecting Marie to know he was here and take responsibility if he did anything... questionable. On the other hand she might know and approve and he had to eb ready for that too.

Susan and Bastet both had the same opinion of that.

"It sounds like the sort of thing he'd do," she snorted. But forced a slight smile anyway. "Sorry. I'm.. Susan." Since he'd introduced himself with mortal names. "Susan Faust."

"Faust?" Bob asked, making an amused rasping noise. "Sorry. Do you have a last name for him? I wasn't given anything beyond Sutekh. Do you know where I could find him?"

"Seth..." She frowned slightly. "Oh, he was in the papers a little while ago... Seth Mallory is his name this time. He was in jail, the last I heard, but that doesn't usually last for long."

"Reminds me of my ex." Bob hid the wince. He hadn't meant to let that slip. He quickly asked, "Do you know anything about who he works for?" It wasn't hard to deduce that he had to be working for somebody. He was dumb enough to get caught and put in jail so he couldn't be the brains behind anything.

She shook her head slightly. "Not this time around, sorry." Smile.

A Cheshire smile. Susan might not have any problems with giving up Seth to whoever, but Bastet was wondering why the man had so many questions.

And, now, who his ex was.

Bob smiled back. "Could you tell me what prison or jail he was sent to?" He folded up the picture and shoved it back in his pocket.

Susan's smile had teeth in it this time. "It may have been in the newspaper... Aren't the authorities looking into this kidnapping?"

Translation: What business is it of yours?

"We've talked to the FBI and they're looking into it but they recommended getting as many people on the lookout as possible." His smile was tight lipped. My sister turns sixteen soon. I'd like her home in time to celebrate. I'll admit I'm curious to know about people who think they can kidnap a battle goddess."

Unspoken: I intend to kill them after asking what they were thinking. Or after killing them. Or during. It didn't really matter so long as there was blood.

Bastet just smiled a little. He did remind her somewhat of Seth, or at least, the display of temper did.

"Likely, if they're not mundane folk with mundane motives, they have others of our kind on their side. If not necessarily of your family or mine."

"Yes." Bob replied. That didn't really matter to him. If they were in mortal bodies they could be killed and couldn't start plotting his demise for at least another five years. It would be interesting to know which family for manipulation purposes. "Anything he said give you any guesses about that?"

Susan shook her head, with a derisive little nose-wrinkle. "He used to be formidable, now he seems to have lost the faculties he once possessed. Which, unfortunately, makes him harder to predict."

Harder to manage, too. Bah.

"Too bad." Bob said. No places to go. No known assosciates. No clue what his next move might be. Just a newspaper article to look up the name of a jail that might no longer contain Seth. Not even which day it might appear in. He'd have to go to the library. Bob hated libraries, the quiet and the stillness got to him. He made an irritated noise that sounded a little too like a badb for comfort.

On the other hand he had two names to look up. And Shiloh had computer skills. This might not be a complete waste after all. "Thank you for the enlightening conversation."
