Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:bob chase, kd townsend, peter torkarov, plot: bea's kidnapping

Who: Peter, Bob and K.D.
Where: K.D.'s office

Bob read the scrap of paper in his hand again as he checked the address. He looked at Peter before knocking firmly on the door. "We're here to see Agent Townsend." There were two names on the door. He thought over how he looked and wondered if he should have worn the collar instead of the dark polo shirt and jeans that were starting show the number of times they'd been through the wash. But he was here because of Macha, not Bea as one of his flock. It had felt... inappropriate.

Peter nodded, dressed in his usual dark suit and tie. He was here as both the tutor of Bea's sister and a member of the CIA, which had certainly helped grease the wheels a bit. He'd been careful throughout his career to respect other law enforcement agencies, aware of the bad blood between the CIA and multitudinous other agencies. So at least he had the distinction of friends in a wide, wide variety of places.

While he looked over the contents of a folder, someone was knocking on his office door? Who worked at the office who knocked anymore, or at least at his door...usually other agents just barged in as if expecting to catch him doing something "human."

"Come in."

Peter extended a hand to the agent, small smile flitting across his lips. So this was another one. Popping up all over, they were. But not one of the Celts. "It's good to meet you, Agent Townsend, though I wish it were under different circumstances."

He hadn't looked up from the contents of the folder until he'd been addressed. He looked up to see the priest he'd visited before. The priest who'd probably thought he was crazy. Busy? That was never a good question. He gave a wry smile and then reach out and took the offered hand of Peter Torkarov.

"Honored."

His brow jutted upwards at the end of Peter's sentence. Different Circumstances? Uh oh.

Clearing his throat and shutting the folder he stuffed in the drawer of his desk.

"What can I help you gentlemen with?"

"And yes, the police have been contacted," Peter added. "We'd just like an idea of the usual procedure. I tutor her sister." He elected not to add the part about being with the Agency. Townsend would likely check both of them out later, if he was any good - or not swamped with cases, as his desk suggested.

One of his congregation? A fifteen year old.

What to expect?

Expect bleakness.

"Well..."

He sighed, "First, I'm sorry to hear that anyone has gone missing."

"It is good that someone has already contacted the police and got the ball rolling. If she was twelve years of age or younger than this would be my jurisdiction. If abduction or foul play is suspected than this also falls under the FBI's jurisdiction."

However, if they'd turned this into the local police and his department hadn't been contacted it was probably not the case.

"Hopefully the missing person doesn't have a habit of running away and then turning back up. Authorities will usually start by gathering all the information that they can about the missing person from people who can tell them. They will usually ask the parent or guardian and person who last saw the missing person questions detailing the person's last sighting. There are the usual physical questions like what the missing person was wearing before they went missing. Then there are questions involving the person's emotional state and health. The more information that you can give the police the better they can work to help find the missing person. It's important to get information out there, and the more people who know about the person missing and are looking, the better."

"The last person to see her is in GW hospital with a concussion from a nearly fatal car accident." Would have been fatal for a mortal. "She's never run away before and her boyfriend and sister are frantic. We're all very certain she wouldn't have left her twin without some clue of where she was going if she had run away." Here was the part where he might sound like a paranoid loony. "What should we do if we think something might happen to the sister?" Bob wasn't sure whether he meant Shiloh, Ceara or himself.

Car accident? He wondered if it was related?

He was about to ask the name of girl to check to see if it had been passed to his department and to whom in his department when Bob the priest said something he thought was peculiar.

He blinked, "Did anyone threaten the missing girl before she disappeared?"

He said twin, he said the girl had a twin sister, "Has anyone threatened the sister?"

Bob squinted thoughtfully. "Not that we know of but they might not have told us. They think we're overprotective." Really, she might not have told him because neither he or Peter would hesitate to use homicide as a solution. "They've lived with their father's cousin since their parents died and she works late hours so the girls go home together. Bea didn't meet Shiloh after her self defense lesson and neither she nor Nick could think of any reason why not." Bob recited. "With their parents' death being so soon there is no way Bea would make Shiloh worry like this." He reiterated. Worried Danu gave Badb the creepy crawlies.

since their parents died...

after her self defense lesson...

parent's death being so soon...

All this was jumping out at him. It didn't "feel" right.

He grabbed a notebook from his table...

"What's her name? Bea--what?"

"What happened to her parents?"

Macha. Goddess of fertility and horses. "Bea Winters." Bob thought hard. "Their parents died in a car wreck last... August, I think. In Montana." Bob winced at the memory of how his favorite sister looked when she'd told him. "The girls aren't over it yet. Which is completely normal. But Carole thought Bea hanging around with Nick was a good sign and I agree." Kid was annoying but Bea liked him. "He's a band geek not someone who'd get her in trouble."

He scribbled Bea Winters down on the paper and then in a bubble wrote parents deceased, car accident, Montana.

Reminded him of what he knew of his father, dying in a car accident in Ireland.

"I'll check and see if anyone in my department has been given this case."

He was very surprised he hadn't heard anything about it. In fact he would like to talk to the twin, the boyfriend, and the caretaker.

"Where was she last seen? You said she was suppose to meet her sister?"

"She was last seen by Ceara Whitfield." He spelled the name for Twonsend. "That's the self defense instructor. She's at GW hospital if you can get through her fiancee to talk to her. I was told she has a severe concussion, broken wrist and broken ankle and to have gotten off lightly. The fiancee is Patrick Garrett and the call from emergency services shook him up pretty bad. Bea was supposed to meet Shiloh for them to take the Metro home together. Shiloh waited and when Bea didn't show she went home by herself. She called and couldn't reach Ceara, then she reached me at work." And he had witnesses proving he was there and sane people to corroborate his story in Ceara and Patrick should the Agent doubt him. "Nick was there since Bea was supposed to meet him, I think. Next they called Carole and Peter here." suddenly he realized why he was worried about the guy who talked about psychic phenomena thinking he was crazy. He was looking at another one like them. Not one of their family though.

He scribbled down some more on the paper while Bob spoke. He was certainly going to do a little digging whether or not this case was passed to them from local authorities. There was just a lot that wasn't adding up to him and if he could get permission to investigate this formally, he would.

"And how long has she been missing?" If she hadn't been gone long some would think taken her age and her circumstance and may have considered that maybe she'd went off on her own, but for some reason Kieran felt she would have told her twin if no one else. He'd heard about the bonds shared between twins and for some reason he felt like he should know more about that subject even though he didn't have a twin himself.

He looked at Peter, "And Peter - you are of what relation to Bea?"

"Since yesterday." Bob knew it was a normal question to ask but he couldn't help but feel a little insulted that anyone would think he'd delay anything that might possibly help him find her. He'd felt her alone and in pain in the dark. He wasn't going to leave her there if he had to kill everyone in the city. That was why he'd asked Peter along good to have someone with the same goal, same ruthlessness but calm enough to do something other than chew his own limbs off.

He watched to see what answer Peter gave. Future brother in law while true probably wasn't the right answer. Even knowing that Carole had made it clear that she could make sure Peter never had sex again for the rest of his life if he did anything inappropriate with Shiloh while she was still a minor. Former brother in law was also true but involved a complicated tangle of power and past lives that the agent might not buy. Mostly Bob watched and listened because he honestly liked watching the god of eloquence at work.

His expression said he'd been waiting for that question, but since Bob knew the most about what had happened... well. It was also rather fun, watching him work, because he was veering as close to the truth as he could without getting into the part where they'd be thought crazy. And there was a hint of pride, there. He and Bob might work well together. This could be fun.

"I recently began to tutor Shiloh, Bea's twin. We were scheduled for a session yesterday when she called me in tears to tell me about her sister, and I went over to offer my assistance to her and her aunt Carole." He slid his ID across the desk to Townsend. "I'm an analyst with the CIA, so I thought I could help them with talking to the police, but this really isn't my area of specialty."

Look uncomfortable, Peter. His voice lowered, his posture grew a bit fidgety. It wasn't all that hard, considering he really, really didn't want Bob hearing this. Or at least, not this way. "I suppose it also struck a nerve with me - a former lover - my daughter's mother was recently kidnapped as well. So this happening within a month of her returning... well. Call me paranoid if you want, but I'm trained to see connections..." He let his voice trail off into all-too-real worry.

The best lies were told with the truth, after all. He was glad he and Shiloh had thought to set up the tutoring already.

Bob said she'd been gone since yesterday...

He scribbled the date onto the paper thinking it was good she'd not been gone any longer. His hand paused so that he could look up and hear Peter out and then laid his pen down long enough to reach for the ID passed his way. Hmm. A CIA analyst who also tutored teenagers.

"Your daughter's mother was kidnapped? And she was returned?"

How very peculiar.

"Was there a ransom? What is her name? By chance this is connected, it would be necessary to speak with her as well."

If he was allowed to take the case.

He answered the unasked question first. "My doctor informed me that I should do something to relax." Wry smile. "Why he thought teenagers were relaxing, I'm not quite sure... on the other hand, at least I have some warning about what I'm in for in another few years?" Rueful smile.

"Yes. She goes by Star. Star of the city," small smile of remembrance. "There was no ransom. She is... not inclined to talk about what happened, though it sounds to me as though someone tried to put her into a prostitution ring, from what little she's said." Quiet and grim. "Nobody seems to know how she got back, but she was gone for two weeks. Taken in her apartment rather than in public - the methods just don't seem to match, to me." That didn't make it less painful. He let that show in his eyes, his tone of voice, but didn't say it outright.

Bob gave Peter a very dark look before putting effort into putting his more amiable mask back up. It wasn't that he thought Ogma should be faithful to Danu but someone had been kidnapped in a way that might be related and Peter hadn't mentioned it. They were going to be "discussing" that later.

He focused his attention on remembering that strangling a CIA analyst in the office of an FBI agent was not a good thing to do. However tempting and well deserved that strangling might be. They might have another chat about the CIA thing and springing it in conversation later.

Kieran did not know how Peter how known what he had been thinking, but then being a CIA analyst may have made the man prone to analyze himself and the reactions and responses of others. Still...it was a bit disturbing.

"I remember being a teenager. I wasn't very relaxed. Didn't find the rest all that relaxing either. But that is neither here nor there."

Because what Kieran thought was really weird was this mention of "Star." Was this the same Star he'd meet and exchanged numbers with grocery shopping? The one and the same he'd ran into looking so sad at a cafe and thought she was...

Did she think she was a goddess? Had that been it? More disturbing given that recent events had led him into meeting a strange man who claimed to be his sister and who he was allowing to sleep over at his home because of it.

"Star?"

Her business card was in his wallet, but it would have been inappropriate to whip it out and read off her number and ask if it was the same woman.

"Does Star have a last name," he asked while noticing the dark look Bob gave Peter? The Star he'd met he hadn't remembered giving a last name.

Highly prone, in fact. Especially when Peter was all too aware that he wasn't exactly your average CIA analyst to begin with.

"Not that she uses, in her line of work." Quiet. "I went to talk to her last night - she's still very, very mistrustful of anyone she doesn't know well. It doesn't sound the same, as I said, but it's worth mentioning for all that."

He would be duly freaked out if or when Kieran mentioned that he'd met Star. But not overly. They were all gods in this together, after all, and it was seeming increasingly normal (whatever that meant for them) that they should be running into each other.

Bob shoved his hands in his pockets as he watched them talk. Slowly, he made himself really relax instead of just seem to be relaxed. He forced his expression to be earnest and attentive. After all Peter was saying this in front of him instead of witholding it longer. But that didn't mean that he wouldn't want answers afterward. Bob focused on that and watching the other two men.

"I'll ask her." Doubtful that she really wanted to talk about it. "She said perhaps the freight cars. The docks. That sort of place, is at least where she started out. She ended up... probably on one of the Keys or in the Caribbean, based on her description, and somehow got from there to Miami. She doesn't remember how."

He would deal with Bob later. Right now he was busy trying not to chastise himself for giving away Star's secrets.

"Is there anything else you can tell us, or that we can tell you that would help?"

Kieran looked stunned for a brief moment after hearing Peter tell him something of Star's kidnapping experience. It almost sounded to him like she was going to be sold into sex slavery, and yet it didn't make any sense that she would end up in Miami from the Caribbean. The agenda of those kind of criminals was usually to get the human cargo out of the country.

"I see..."

He tapped his finger against his chin,

"N-no. I'll check into a few things, and then I'd like to be able to get back in touch with the two of you."

It was what it had sounded like to Peter as well, but he hadn't wanted to color Townsend's thoughts on the matter. Plus, well, saying I think her inner goddess might have taken over and done something about it wouldn't be a good explanation for why she'd ended up in Miami. Even if it were true.

"Alright." He traded his ID for a business card. "Do, please." What he wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall during questioning...

Accepting both Peter's business card and Bob's piece of paper he placed them on top of the notes he'd scribbled down.

Kieran was sure putting all his efforts into this case would be a good distraction from his strange curiosity with performing invocations of the deceased. It would also be nice to involve himself in something consuming so that he could unofficially close the Donovan/Kingston case of which had been officially closed after trial.

Peter hoped Bob would let them get to the parking garage before asking uncomfortable angry questions, but he wasn't counting on it.

"I went to visit her last night. She's another like us, but everything about her kidnapping sounds wrong. Which means we have several someones after deities in the area, because I'm guessing neither of these were Seth. They're not his style. Too subtle, for the main thing."
