Sparhawk was riding Faran, exercising his friend as they rode across the grounds of Here, ocassionally startling one attendant of worker here or there. The sudden arrival or workers did not startle of upset Sparhawk. Indeed, if anything, it seeme a more normal state of affairs to a man who had been used to, when he lived in such a place as this, having servants, courtiers, and others always around. It had been the small population, the sheer dearth of people that had bothered him, and this new fullness of Here, well, it seemed right.

He was not too sure he understood their unrelenting cheerfulness, however, as he was used to a universal truth; servants are not that happy about being such.

Thus, it was a thouyghtful Sparhawk who was a-riding this morning, and a quiet, for once, Faran, who was carrying him.

Elaine was coming out of the greenhouse when she spied her beloved and his horse. She waved at them cheerily as she walked out.

Sparhawk smiled as he turned Faran toward her. The big horse wickered and cantered toward Elaine, for she was one of his favorite people as well.

"Greetings, dear wife. How are you?"

Faran blew out a little air in greeting and nosed her shoulder gently.

"I am most well, my lord." She patted Faran affectionately. "Now that the morning sickness seems to have faded a little, I can do what I like and I am feeling quite well indeed."

She smiles up at him brightly. "And how do you fare this morn, beloved?"

He slid from Faran's back and embraced her, his heart leaping to touch her again.

"I love thee, dear one."

He smiled and stroked her hair.

"I am glad to hear you well. My day has been good, and calm. between exercises, cleaning armor, and taking care of Faran, the day has worn away quicker than I thought."

It always feels so lovely to be held by him. "And I love thee, as well."

She smiled. "It is good to have things to occupy your hands and your mind. It is rather strange to see so many attendants Here."

He kissed her again, then nodded and, gestured toward the fields.

"Will you walk with us?"

It had been his habit to include Faran in his statements, and that was unlikely to change. When even a God acknowledged that a horse was a people, it was hard to ignore the fact.

"I would be happy to, mine." She slipped her arm around his waist as they walked.

As for Elaine, she was more than happy to include Faran; they were a family, after all.

The knowledge that she was carrying his child was still very new and wondrous, and there were times she fell silent contemplating it.

He stroked her side as they went. She fit him, and he delighted in that once more.

"How is the greenhouse?"

"Oh, most well. Things are blooming happily, and the vegetables are nearly ready to be harvested."

As well as the flax. She really needed equipment to spin and weave.

"I definitely shall." She will not do anything alone if she does not have to.

She sighed and leaned happily on his arm. "I can't believe that we're going to have a little one. I still haven't felt him move, though." She cannot wait to feel that.

But she does try to be patient and wait. Still, midwinter seems so very long to wait.

He smiled softly at her, feeling unwilling to be parted from her for long, even when he knew it must happen.

He kissed her cheek and stroked her belly softly.

"I am sure he or she will move in time."

He knew it would be well, somehow.

"Iam very proud of you, my love and of being your husband."

She's only just beginning to gain a slight bit of weight, a softening of the curve of hip and belly.

"I know...I just want to...to know that our child is in there." She still could not quite believe it.

Elaine blushes. "And I am proud to be your wife, my love." She sighed again, happily.

His hand stroked down those differences, gently holding her as they walked.

"I am sure they are, love. But we will find a way to prove it."

"But how, dearest? Till the quickening, I won't truly know."

She knew from experience with other women in pregnancy that till the quickening it was an anxious wait, hoping the child was well and would be born alive.

She laughed at herself. "I must exercise a little more patience, I think." But it was difficult!

"As usual, you are very wise, beloved."

She felt so excited, sometimes so excited that she could barely breathe from it. She sometimes kept Sparhawk awake at night when she was like that, and tended to tire the man out. Though he did not complain when she did such things.

"I cannot tell you how very happy I am. Things are just starting for us and I look forward to each day."

"And the arrival of our wee one will brighten up the end of our winter."

This is the first time that Elaine has looked forward to the winter in her remembering.

Elaine laughed. "Our days are blessed, aren't they? With our small family here." She included Faran in this, of course, smiling back at the horse.

She leans her head on his arm again, enjoying the feeling as he held her.

"I would like to have a loom and spindle," she says softly. "The flax is nearly ready to be harvested and spinning the thread and weaving it would take up many a cold winter's night."

And she missed weaving, even if it would be simple homespun.
