Free As A Bird - Mixer
Who: Emma DeLauro & Abby Sciuto - Mixer
Where: In the Clinic.
When: During the daytime, I would imagine...
Summary: Mixer! As one of her first tasks working at the Clinic, Abby is going to visit Emma. :)
Rating: We'll say PG until further notice.

Abby was a little nervous about visiting the woman who had been in a coma since the explosion. She hadn't met her before, so there wasn't any common ground, and she didn't know anything about her, really. She'd brought along a few books and her iPod and was ready to talk away the time, too, if that's what Emma DeLauro wanted...

Hoping that her slightly toned-down wardrobe of black and spikes wasn't too alarming, she took a deep breath, let it out again slowly, and knocked on the wall near the curtained area.

Emma grew up in New York City, and was raised in a commune. She has seen it all and has a very strange wardrobe of her own. Emma sat in the bed and looked at the television, using small weights that Ana had brought for her. She was doing some minor repetitions to get her strength back up. She was remembering the day Obi Wan came here and what his presence had done to reboot her system. A lot like Brennan was rebooted by using her powers and Brennan's will power. Emma was nervous and happy to have company. Only having has Peter, who seems to have gone scarce and Obi Wan, who brought her out of her coma. She was just as nervous.

She smiled brightly to the girl when she arrived and waved once she put the weights down. She hissed and groaned as she did so, she felt so out of shape. Who knew a whooping four months could do this to a body?

"Oh, hi! You're awake and... exercising," she said, noticing the weights and waving back with a smile. "I'm Abby, annnnnnnnnd I'm your entertainment centre for today."

She placed the books on one of the side tables and held up her iPod. "So, reading material and music and me. I also have a pack of cards in my back pocket."

"Hi." She stated warmly to the girl, she was very pretty.

"Yeah, sorry. I am used to moving constantly and working out with my friends, practicing my martial arts. I am not used to being bed ridden and dependent on everyone. Pleasure to meet you, Abby. I'm Emma, but I am sure you knew that already." This girls mood and her natural happiness was rubbing off on her and she didn't mind that one bit, she needed the natural high after so many months. "Oh music and reading material. Hmmmm, well, I've spent enough time alone, inside my head. I'd love some good conversation and...well, anything that involves other people."

"Oh, martial arts are amazing. I'm... not so good in that area, though I think those who do them are really cool. This whole situation," she continues, glancing around the room. "Really sucks. And yeah, I knew you were Emma. I should probably be wearing candy stripes or something, but black will have to do. Sorry. As for conversation?"

Abby sat on the edge of the bed. "I can't guarantee how good it'll be, but I can talk about all sorts of things."

"Oh please, do not apologize. I think you look beautiful. I love your tats." She nodded in thought about her loving martial arts and not being good at it. She semi shrugged and smiled. "That is all right, that is why people like me are around. The work I do, their is a need to fight and save people. I would much rather not use fists or other violent miens, but all things considered, I rather see people safe and well. I just want to save people. It is my calling." She looked around the room then and let her head drop some. "Yeah, this does suck. I lost more then my ability to function when this place exploded, I lost a man who was very dear to me. If I could have put myself in the way of whatever came to kill him, I gladly would have, but this is not a perfect world, pain is life and things happen as they happen for a reason, even if they suck." It hurt her doubly because before Ardeth there was another man, an eco-terrorist that she could have saved, but no matter how the cards where placed the situation was always the same and he gave his life for her.

She looked at the girl, canting her head and giving her a soft smile. "Any little thing you could offer me if dear and precious. Do not think any different."

She patted the bed and smiled, soft and encouraging. "Tell me about yourself, Abby? Like what you did before coming here, and what was the inspiration for all those tattoos?"

"Awww, you're a sweetie. Thanks. I've got other tats, too, but I'd get arrested if I just wandered about without any clothes on, so people could actually, you know, see them and stuff." She pursed her red lips in thought. "Or maybe I wouldn't get arrested for that. I have no clue. This place is pretty whack."

Emma mentioned the explosion, and Abby thought of the little graveyard and how she'd brought a candle and played some jazz for the dead.

"I'm... I'm really sorry. I didn't know many of the ones we lost at all." She sighed and at Emma's encouragement, shifted on the bed so she was closer to the woman. The topic had been changed, which was probably just as well.

"Who, me? Nothing fancy, but I loved it. I worked in forensics for NCIS. That's 'Naval Criminal Investigative Service'. Cops for the Forces, you know? It was interesting and fun and I was part of a really super team." Another sigh. "I miss them. A lot. As for the tattoos?" She rolled her eyes. "That'll take a while..."

She smiled when she called her a sweetie. "Thanks, I have my moments." She said softly. "Really, how many other tattoos do you have? I have a few,but none that I can really show in a PG capacity." She said with a smile.

"It's all right, but thank you. Death is just a part of the circle of life and it must come to pass when it is meant, his time has come and I shall always remember him."

"Yes, you." She said with a smile. Listening to her line of work, she thought she did indeed have a pretty fantastic job. "Sounds like some of the things I got to do in the lab with Adam, he taught me many wonderful and amazing things, he did. I was part of a real super team too, I feel your pain. I miss my family as well." At her roll of the eyes, Emma canted her head to the side and smiled. "Well, all I do have is time, silly." She said gently.

"I have eleven tattoos... I think." Abby scrunched up her nose in thought. "Yes! Eleven. And yeah, Death is part of the circle. I saw The Lion King." She gave a small smile. "And... I know we have time, but honestly, my tats aren't that exciting. I can certainly tell you about them, though, if you like."

Abby held up one finger. "Or! We could talk about... everything else."

'I have about five tattoos, but all in places that aren't there for the polite of heart." She said with a wicked smile.

"They are beautiful. what I can see anyway." She nodded and smiled. "yes, yes it is, part of life. Death gives all life purpose and a reason for being. Not many people realize that, I do study a lot of the Eastern Religions, Tibetan book of the Dead and all." She said. "I fund people and all things about people exciting, I suppose it is their organic nature, life, the body. So, I am willing to sit here and listen to you tell me the meaning at least behind a few of your tats, all tats have some kind of meaning? I mean, they decorate the temple that is your body." She offered.

"Well, then you start, I am willing to listen to everything else that you have to say." She said with a smile.

"I try to be polite," Abby replied. "But I'm not gonna ask to see them. I'll leave that for... other people. And thanks, about the tattoos. Oh, here. There's this one." And she shifted on the edge of the bed so her back was to Emma and pulled up her T-shirt. "That's another one of them," she said to the wall. "And I've never thought of my body as a temple, but I know people who do. Think of their bodies as temples, I mean. Not mine..."

"I think you should be what and who you are. If you are polite, you are and if the need arises where you can't be, then be angry or sad or freaked out. Never censor yourself, life is too short, to complicated and there is too many unhappy people out there who try to hard to be what they aren't and wind up dying miserable or just live a horrendous life.

She offered her a warm smile. Then she turned and showed her the tattoo on her back. Emma's fingers traced a little bit of it, marveling at the intricacies. "Wow, that is beautiful, hon." She said warmly.

"Well, your body is a temple. It is all you have, if you think about it and thus you should treat it with love and caring."

"Oh, I can be very angry and sad and freaked out," she said brightly and pulled her top back down. "It's just not my chosen demeanor. That would be 'happy'." She turned around again, grinning. "And thanks. That cross took forever to do. Well, I didn't have to do much but lie there, but it still took forever."

Abby shifted a little and regarded the other woman before asking, "And you're really philosophical. Is that... something you've studied, or just... someone you are?"

"Well, I really enjoy your chosen demeanor, Abby. I think you and I will get along just wonderfully." She said rather brightly.

"I can imagine, but you get what you pay for and it is beautiful, a lot like you."

She thought for a few moments on what she asked.

"I don't know. I never thought about it before. I just remember, well I was all of five years old. My parents were Hippies and we all lives in a commune type thing. Well, before all of this we were out somewhere and I got lost, and I remember I just felt them. I felt them and instead of them finding me, I found them instead. From that day on, I suppose I had this philosophy that anything could happen, would happen and you just had to do the thing, take control and put your hands in belief and yourself. From that, from that comes me and my philosophy on life. My parents gave me up when I was ten, the couldn't deal with me and who and what I was, I traveled the system and kind of got lost. A really amazing group found me, loved me and took me in. I made it my life's purpose to help them, to work for them, to never let up on anyone and to fight. I've done it ever since. They were my family and I didn't get out much, but I did all I could to serve and protect, anyone and everyone. So, there you have me. What about you, you are kind of an enigma to me. A happy one, that I am trying to figure you, but you entrance me...I gotta admit."

"Wow. You are so sweet." Abby beamed. "And I think we'll get along great, too."

Then Emma talked about her personal philosophy and how it had shaped her since an early childhood experience. Abby didn't like the sound of her parents, though, letting one so young get 'lost' in the system.

"I'm sorry about that. That must have really sucked, but I'm glad you found a new family. You know what they say? You can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends. I'm paraphrasing. I love my family, strange as they are, but the people I work with at NCIS? They're my family, too. I really miss them... But who doesn't miss someone from home, you know?"

Abby grinned. "And I don't think I've ever been an 'enigma' and 'entrancing' at the same time. If you have some questions, fire away, and I'll see what I can do..."

"I am, well thanks... I am just trying to tell it like it is," she said with a brilliant smile. "Good, it is always good to have friends, Abby and we already seem to have a few things in common."

She let her head drop and listened to her as she spoke. "It did suck, but I managed to find my friends who made up for that and they were the best family a person could ever wish for." She said softly, sounding a little broken that she missed them.

"NCIS, huh? Sounds intriguing and fulfilling to say the least, you sound brilliant. You do and your friends must truly adore you and rely on you too." She shook her head then. "Exactly, who doesn't?"

"Well, I think you are, to me you are and I am sure to those around you you are as well. You have feelings, needs, thoughts, beliefs, ways about you. It's entrancing and a puzzle. Just like I am sure I am an enigma to you as well? Sure, uh, what got you into forensics?"

"Sure," Abby replied, and sat and absorbed everything Emma said, nodding sympathetically at the missing of friends. Her nods sped up near the end.

"Oh, you are, absolutely. You're an enigma, wrapped in a mystery, hidden in a puzzle room with, like, traps and hidden doors and stuff."

She grinned.

"And I think solving puzzles is really interesting. I need the challenge, you know? Of course, solving the puzzle that brought me Here wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done, but who knew, right? So, where was I? Ah! Forensics. When I was a teenager, I worked at a funeral home, making the people look nice for the open casket services. And I'd think, 'How did you get here? Why did you die? How come your file says 'cause of death:natural' when you've got, like, dirt under your fingers and burns around your neck?'"

Abby shrugged. "That was just one guy like that, though. Still, I was curious and needed to know more. That got me started."
