Ginny is lying on a blanket outside near the golf course, mentally cursing Bobby Drake for leaving the swimming pool one large chunk of ice, making it impossible to swim. She could have used magic to melt it, but that isn't the point; and she's just being lazy.

There is an open book face down beside her, but for the most part she's just dozing in the shade.

Lucas had been out shooting a few hoops while Layla did some swimming. He was walking back towards the residence when he spotted the familiar redhead. He smiled and walked over to her. He had a basketball rested against his hip and was wearing a pair of sunglasses.

"Hey Ginny," he said softly. "You mind if a join you?"

"Hey, Lucas!"

She sits up, resting on her elbow. She eyes the basketball curiously; it's about the same size as a quaffle.

"What's the ball for?"

"It's for a game I play, called basketball," he said sitting in the grass beside her.

He smiled warmly.

"I used to play on the team in my school."

[[ooc: I am SO sorry. I replied to this days ago, and my tag was apparently eaten!!]]

"Quidditch used to be played with baskets, then nets. Now it's just the hoops. How many other balls are there?"

"Other balls? There aren't any other balls. Just the one," he said smiling.

(OOC: No worries :D)

"Is it like football? An old boyfriend of mine was a huge football fan...I never understood why he loved a game so much, where you weren't even allowed to use your hands."

Not to mention, there was no flying.

"Not really. You're not allowed to kick the ball at all. You bounce it with your hands and then try to get it in the hoop. Each basket is worth so many points depending on where you are on the court. I could teach you sometime if you like?"

"Maybe."

Her tone is dubious; it sounds kind of primitive to her.

"Do the baskets move, or do they just sit on the floor? How many are there?"

"There's two. One on each end of the court. One for each team. They're raised up by poles about 10 feet in the air and they're not much bigger in size than the ball," he said.

He got the impression she thought it sounded boring. He never found the game boring to play. He loved it and had played it since he could walk.

"That's more interesting, then. I was picturing something a lot more basic."

Still, it would be more interesting if the baskets moved.

"Is it very popular where you live?"

"Yeah it is. Really popular. The whole town gets involved when we play. We have games out of town too. Most of the town comes to see us play. And we have cheerleaders and mascots and pep-ralley's and other social things to do with the team. It's a lot of fun."

Pep rallies and mascots? How odd!

"Yeah they do. Cheerleaders are a group of girl in the school who do these sort of cheer/dance routines before we play and would have their own uniforms and are usually the prettiest and most popular girls in the school. I dated two of them before I came here. Well, three kinda."

It sounds fishy to Ginny. If the game was that exciting, why bring in extra entertainment?

"They're there to get the crowd going before the match starts. Like the support act at the concert."

He wondered if she'd ever been to a concert.

That would be a 'no'. The Weird Sisters performed at the Yule Ball, but that isn't the same thing, and there was no opening act.

"Quidditch fans are almost always already excited, but it's an interesting idea. Do all muggle sports have them, or just basketball?"

"No, it's rougher than normal football. You run with the ball in your hand and touch the ball past a certain line to score. It's a contact sport, unlike basketball.:

[info]witchy_weasley

Quidditch is played in the air, on broomsticks. There are seven players to a team, and four balls. One of the ball you try to score with, two that fly around and try to knock the players off of their brooms or force them off course, and one tiny one that is worth a lot of points, and the ends the game once it's caught. It's very hard to catch."

"Yeah, I try. But it's not just being Here. I have HCM. It's a heart condition. I have to take pills to slow my heart rate down so I can't play at my normal speed. And if I don't take them, I could die."

"That's horrible! They don't have a cure for it?"

She wonders if there is a potion for that sort of thing that muggles just don't know about. Not that she would be qualified to brew it, even if there was.

"No, there's no cure. I'm on mediation and Layla's been working on some herbal remedies for me. I had a heart attack about a month or two after I came here. It's genetic. I got it from my father," he said, a bitter edge to his voice as he said 'father'.

"A heart attack in someone so young is pretty rare, isn't it?"

She wonders if he blames his father for his condition.

"She did?" he asked, raising his eyebrows in surprise.

"My father abandoned my mom when she was pregnant with me. My Uncle Keith helped her raise me. A few weeks before I came Here, my father murdered my Uncle and blamed it on a messed up kid. So yeah, issues."

"Thanks," he said. "Things were pretty dark for me for a while but thanks to Layla I've been working through it."

He looked at her as she spoke.

"Oh wow. I'm really sorry Ginny," he said placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Can't imagine what that would have like either. I am so sorry."
