Starry, starry night
Ginny is out by the telescopes tonight with her star charts, looking in vain for anything even remotely familiar to her or similar to sky she was used to being under. She suspected that she would have to make her own charts of the sky and its patterns to see what she could find.

It was a lonely feeling; she didn't even know if she was a speck in the sky to the people at home.

Peyton couldn't sleep and had decided to take a stroll outside. She was just turning back to the hotel when she saw the girl out there.
"Hi!" she said

The voice is unfamiliar, so she pastes on a polite smile.

"Hello. Did you come out for some stargazing, too?"

"No, not really. I couldn't sleep so I decided to take a stroll outside. I'm sorry if I bothered you" she said, a note of apology in her voice

"No, you're not bothering me. I'm just sitting out here wallowing in self pity. You can join in, if you want."

There is a touch of humor in her voice to belie her words.

"Watch your eyes, and I'll light my wand."

She mutters something low under her breath, and suddenly a light flares to life at the end of a slender stick in her hand.

"Wallowing in self pity sounds perfect for me too" she answered.
"Wow! What was that?" she asked amazed at the flare of light

Not a witch, then.

"Oh, don't worry; it's just my wand, and I'm using it to shed a little light. I'm a witch...I hope magic doesn't make you uncomfortable."

"Ginny."

She shakes the other girl's hand, after switching her wand to her left hand.

"Having a rough night?"

"Don't worry, it's just a tiny little village, and we don't even live in it, just near it. We've got muggle repelling charms around it, anyway, so you probably wouldn't be able to find it, even if you looked."

She nods.

"Los Angeles is in California, isn't it? I talked with someone else from there, before. North Carolina--is that close to California?"

"Muggles?" she asked puzzled.

"Yeah, it's in California. But no, they're not close to each other. In fact, they're one at one end and the other at the other end of USA. But I applied for an internship in L.A. and anyway, there's no family waiting for me in Tree Hill"

"An internship is well, some sort of non-paid job. It's useful to get some experience. I applied for one at an important music label. I want to own one someday" she said a little dreamily "I still don't know if I got accepted though"

Obi-Wan has just finished meditating and should be able to wind down for the evening, but it just isn't happening. He decides to go for a walk and notices a young woman out by a station, which appears to have devices for viewing the stars. He pauses, uncertain as to whether or not she would appreciate being interrupted.

Deciding to make his presence known, he says softly, "Hello. Am I disturbing you?" He's still at least three meters away from her, so that he isn't being intrusive.

She holds her wand out and mutters, Lumos minimus!" A dim light flares from the tip of her wand, not bright enough to blind either of them , but giving a gentle glow to the area, so she can better make out the figure nearby.

"Hello. I'm Ginny."

At her words and the light, which appears at the end of a short stick she is holding, he takes a few steps closer.

"A pleasure to meet you, Ginny," he says in his soft-spoken manner. "I am Obi-Wan." He opts to keep it less formal, taking his cue from the young woman. "As for the stars..." He pushes back his hood and lifts his face to gaze at the night sky. "I don't recognize anything at all..."

She doesn't bat an eyelash at his name, not really thinking it any stranger than that of other wizards.

"Do you study astronomy, then?"

He smiles. "In a manner of speaking. I'm used to navigating through the stars, so I have a variety of charts up here." He taps his skull with one finger and turns his focus from the sky to her face. "And I've been on many different worlds, but this place... I don't know this place at all."

He notes the that she has some rolls of paper nearby.

"Do you study astronomy?"

"It must be amazing to travel out there. I've heard that muggles have sent men to the moon, but not out among the stars."

She assumes he's not from Earth or at least not from her point in time.

"It's one of the subjects taught at my school, though I dropped it after fifth year, since it isn't required. I would feel a little better if I could only get my bearings, and could at least know which direction to look for Earth."

"I suppose... I suppose that it is amazing, though one gets used to it, takes it for granted and so on." He sighs. "You shouldn't, of course. I... try not to, but..."

Obi-Wan moves to stand beside her, glancing at the devices.

"I'm not familiar with 'muggles', but traveling to your planet's moon is frequently the first step toward colonization, or so I gather from my understanding of the development of other civilizations." He frowns slightly. "And... in what sector is 'Earth'?"

"A muggle is a non magic person, where I'm from."

She can't imagine colonizing the moon.

"I'm not sure what you mean by sector. We're the third planet from our sun in our solar system. Our galaxy is called The Milky Way."

Obi-Wan raises his eyebrows.

"You're from a world of magic? Amazing. A fair portion of the known galaxy is categorized by sectors, based on what system they're in and which sun the orbit and so on." He sighs. "I'm not familiar with the term 'Milky Way', but I haven't been everywhere."

He gestures to the devices. "Would you mind showing me the night sky, Ginny?"

"You want to learn how to use a telescope, you mean?"

"I see. So, you'd be considered unusual within the general population? Someone with a rare gift?" He sighs. "Sounds a bit like the Jedi. There aren't many of us, either."

He nods, once, and smiles.

"Yes, though it doesn't look like a complicated device, I'm not going to assume that I know everything, especially not in such a place as this" Pause. "If you don't mind, that is."

"I don't know what a Jedi is, but yes, compared to the general population, I'm unusual. Most of the general population doesn't even know we exist."

She nods at his observation.

"It's not complicated at all, really. It's just curved lenses that magnify what you're looking at through them. Be my guest. She steps away from the telescope and gestures tot he eyepiece. Just look through there, and use the knobs on either side to adjust the focus."

"And the Jedi are becoming fewer and fewer, it seems," he says. "I won't bore you with it all, but at some point, if you're interested, I can tell you more about my world. But for now..."

At her invitation, he steps closer to the telescope, and confirms that it's a low-tech version of something with which he's familiar.

"Ah, yes," he says, peering through and adjusting the knobs. "Fascinating... Lovely stars, but not any stars I know..."

"I haven't met anyone Here yet, who recognizes them. I'm starting to chart them, though I'm not very good at it. There seem to be definite patterns in the brightest stars, but I don't know there are any specific constellations or stories behind them, Here."

He straightens. "Chart them? Well, that's a wonderful idea. At the very least, there might be patterns that could be recognized and plotted. Perhaps giving us some clues about what's out there and thus, learn more about Here."

Obi-Wan sighs. She looks so young...

"Ginny, how long have you been Here?"
