In the tea room [open to all]
Elaine was taking a little time with a cup of tea that she didn't make herself. She was writing a little, with a pencil and paper. Everything is strange here, and the pencil is the least strange of the items she has to write with.

Elaine is ambidextrous, so sometimes she switches which hand has the tea and which the pencil. There is no noticeable difference in the quality of writing. And every so often, she looks up to a nearby window, lost in memory.

He watched from the door with a smile.

He loved to watch and listen to her.

It wasn't long before Elaine felt him watching her and looked up from her writing. Her face lit in a smile.

"My lord, come and sit," she said affectionately.

He nodded.

"Very well, milady."

He settled next to her and kissed her, then smiled.

"You are beautiful."

"You deserve such and so much more."

He hugged her warmly.

"How are you this day?"

"I am most well. I have gotten...well, some things done on my history."

Not much, perhaps, but it is something. She leaned into him.

"And how have you been faring?"

He raised an eyebrow.

"Good to hear."

Then he smiled.

"I am well. A walk, morning prayers and exercise, and a ride, and the day passes. I thought we might sup together?"

She smiled at him. "Of course. I wouldn't have it any other way."

Elaine cleared off her papers carefully from the table.

Jack didn't recall the last time he had a really nice cup of tea.

He was more a coffee person, but all the time he'd spent in the United Kingdom in his later years had made him appreciate a good cuppa.

He entered the tea room in t-shirt, jeans and sneakers and spotted Elaine at one of the tables. He hadn't seen her since her wedding. He approached slowly, not wanting to startle her, as she seemed lost in thought.

"Elaine? Am I... interrupting?" he asked quietly.

"I am well, Elaine," he replies, giving her a slight bow. "Haven't seen you since your wedding. All is well with you, too?" He makes a sweeping gesture with one arm, to encompass the work on the table. "Taking care of business, I see?"

She beams. "All is wonderful with me, sir, and I thank you for coming to the wedding and sharing the day."

She looks down at her papers. "I am working on writing my memories down, so that others may read them."

"Excellent! And you're welcome. Thanks for inviting everyone. What a lovely ceremony and hey, is there something in the water? Two weddings in one Spring?" He chuckles. "Don't things come in threes?"

Jack gestures to the chair across from her. "Mind if I join you? Greta idea, about writing things down, by the way."

"Well, spring is the time of year for it," she says, laughing. "And I suppose you never know what will happen next."

Elaine smiles. "Oh, please sit down. It has been quite a long while since we've talked. I am unused to having so much idle time in my days, and I thought that writing would be something to occupy myself during odd hours of the day."

And so that she didn't forget.

Jack slides into the chair. "Thank you. Yeah, the month of June, in particular, where I come from, anyway. Well, where I was before I came Here." He shakes his head and adds, "Last time I saw you, you were busy greeting the guests with your groom."

He glances at the pages. "Looks like you're making good progress. Are you writing about your experiences Here or about your home, Elaine?"

Elaine smiles. "It was a happy day and I feel that I've met more than a few people Here, and I was glad so many came to the wedding. I feared that they would not, considering how early in the morning it was."

"It will be about my home and family. What I did, and how it was. People...do not seem to understand so much, and so maybe this will help."

Lucas went to the tea room to grab an iced latte before he headed outside to enough the sun. Layla was away so he'd be hanging out a lot outside. He spotted Elaine and walked over to her smiling.

"Hi Elaine," he said smiling warmly. "Still enjoying post-martial bliss?"

"Yes, being married is great. Better than great. It's amazing, knowing you're going to spend the rest of your life with the one person who you love more than anyone, who completes you in every possible way and who makes you happier than you ever thought you could be. But I'm sure you already know that," he said smiling warmly.

He noticed she was working on something.

"Not particularly. There was little need to write anything at home. Only the accounts, and that was done by my father's treasurer. I can write only because my father insisted on my education. Not everyone does, in my time."

Especially not women.
