Who: Sparhawk and Elaine
What: Endings and Beginnings
When: After the Announcement
Where: From the Residence Stables to Elsewhere...
Rating: RCSC for Random and Crazy and Sexuality and Crack

Sparhawk stared at the sign on the stable wall. It had not been there last night and he had been up late. But there it was, this morning. He eyed it, reading it through carefully, and sighed, eyes closing slowly. So, it really was the end of this place, then. He had hoped... but it was true. A new beginning would be had by he and his.

Others out in the Residence would make their plans, but he and his were ready, now, and they already knew exactly what to do.

With a nod, and a growing excitement, he turned, and scanned through the stables, before nodding as he saw the Glass dome and the Cube.

So be it.

"Elaine! Milady! Come here, please."

He rarely raised his voice, but he was fairly certain this was an allowed occasion.

Elaine had been bent over a fire, making breakfast when he called to her. She set aside the pan, and got up from her crouched position with a little difficulty.

She walked over to him. "What is it, beloved?" she asked, her hands immediately holding his arm.

He reached for her hands with his and gestured to the sign.

"Looks like it's time. We need to get ready, and pack the bags."

He let her read the sign and then pointed out the cube, which had managed to land in the most unlikely area to be seen, like the sign wanted to be read first. Or maybe it had not been there until the sign was read. Whichever it was, Sparhawk was ready.

He kissed Elaine, thanking God again for the magic and the blessing that had brought her into his life and made her say yes to be his wife.

She read the sign, becoming more excited as she read. "Oh... we are really leaving?" Her voice was half-excited, half-frightened.

They did not have so very much, really, but Elaine had some few little keepsakes from the wedding and a blanket she'd already made for the baby.

"Where shall we go? I will go wherever you like." She kissed him back, looking in amazement at the Cube and thanking heavens that he was here with her and they would not be parted.

He nodded and hugged her close, stroking her arms and hair.

"I thought we could go to your world, if you like. I would be honored to meet your father, and we could then journey onward to make our own place and time, with our own home."

He kissed her softly.

"It seems the best thing to me."

"Oh, Sparhawk. I...I thank you so much." Her voice trembled. She could barely imagine seeing them again; she'd said good bye as best she could.

She sighed. "You are so good to me," she said, kissing him back. She could hardly believe that they were going to leave this place that had been home for over a year.

He hugged her close and kissed her again, and shook his head.

"How else should a husband be?"

He nodded and looked around.

"Come then, we have work to do, and no idea how long to do it in, despite what the sign may say."

Elaine nodded. "I...do not have much," she said. "Not much that cannot be replaced. Just a few things from the wedding that I want to keep. And the saddle you gave to me."

She went around, packing their things carefully. She paused at Sparhawk's armor. "Should we pack it or will you wear it?"

If they were to be heading to her world, it would be a necessary thing to have, most likely.

He packed up all he could, and turned to her as she spoke and he finished.

He took a moment to think on it.

"Yes, pack it. We will have time where we go to redress, I should hope, and a surcoat and chain mail will be enough for now. I will wear the sword, however."

Elaine nodded and worked carefully at packing the armor. She of all people Here would know the value of caring for armor.

When she was done, she straightened up and sighed. "I think we are as packed as we shall get, beloved."

He nodded then and saddled Faran.

"Time to go, old man, for all of us. We came as a family, and we leave as one, just a larger one."

Faran snorted and let himself be saddled, then Sparhawk led him to where their things were and slowly added each item to the saddle in the right places. When he was finished, Faran shook and nodded, almost.

"Good. Ready, love?"

He pushed a mounting block next to Faran so Elaine could mount easier with his help.

Elaine took a deep breath and smiled. "Yes, I think that I am." She approached Faran, smiling. She patted his neck. "I am sorry you have to carry all of us...I do hope that I will not make things too heavy," she said, laughing a little nervously.

Faran snorted and lipped her cheek, gentle. He liked her. Sparhawk nodded.

"He will bear us. He is strong, strong than most ever will know. With him beneath us, we will be safe to the other side... of whatever happens."

He took up the mound of hay where the dome sat and carried it to Faran, waiting while Elaine slid amount.

Elaine mounted Faran with some difficulty, but felt quite relieved when she was at last safely on.

She smiled at her husband, carrying their means of transport away from Here. She was dreadfully nervous but very glad that they would all be together.

He lay the hay on her lap, so the glass dome was on top. Then he swiftly mounted and gently patted Faran.

"Now, my lady. Open the dome, touch the cube, and let us go to our new home."

His voice was loving as he wrapped an arm around her.

She smiled up at him and then turned to the cube on her lap. Carefully, she lifted off the cover of the cube and took a deep breath.

All will be well.

And then she touched the cube.

Sparhawk had a moment to hug her and kiss her and then there was a flash... and as it happened, a wind came up, like nothing he had known before and there was a sideways jerk and...

They were gone, and the stables were empty.

To Be Continued, Elsewhere...
