Sparhawk was riding, exercising Faran and himself, really, even as Fall closed in around the residence. Memories of an old siege kept his eyes moving, scanning the horizon, and pondering what the area's defenses were like. It was an exercise he was long accomplished at, having been doing it nearly every day he was here in this place. He was a military man and forced peace was not-quite-grating to him, as he knew it was enforced, not natural.

Faran snorted and Sparhawk's attention snapped to the direction Faran was looking, only to see one of the strange animals poke it's nose up out of the woods. He relaxed slightly, feeling Faran do the same.

Another quiet day, perhaps. He nodded and rode, his thoughts turning to Elaine, his wife, and her pregnancy. He hoped all would go well, and was studying his magics as best he could, praying even more than normal. Let this be a good pregnancy, please, Lord...

He rode on.
