Yesterday's Hogwarts game was Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin. In spite of it being a very subdued crowd with a lot of tension, Quidditch was still played. Results were: Ravenclaw 210 vs Slytherin 140. I'm only assuming Ravenclaw wanted to rally everyone's spirits!

Bellatrix called a DE meeting and then I got kidnapped for New Year's before I could write it up! There was also the Marking ceremony that we planned. So I'll give a quick summary, and then people can throw in their ideas.

New Year's Meeting

Pius Thicknesse was actually there, almost to lead the meeting, because he went over the plans that the Wizengamot have been getting ready to push through this week: Muggleborn registration, forgiveness of war crimes, encouraged snatching, etc. Once the registration rolls out, it's going to be pretty obvious to everyone that the Ministry is purist now, so any semblance of trying not to be can be dropped once it's done.

Just like the Order, the Death Eaters also need to reach out to some of the scarier things - Fenrir is asked to build a pack of werewolves to serve Voldemort. If anyone else has ideas along this line, feel free. I feel like they'd try to get giants on their side, or at least under their control, to smash things, and maybe some vampires because they're scary - and because now there can be two nights of Snape mockery.

Also they talked about recruiting, and set a time and a place for recruits to be Marked. Please look over This post too and let's get some of this rolling! We need DEs to step up there and do the recruiting, etc., still.

Also, since they talked about Snatchers, now people can actively be recruiting Snatchers - people who aren't taking the Mark, but will be hunting Muggleborns (and likely stealing all their stuff in the process, taking bribes, etc.)

After the meeting, Bellatrix wanted to celebrate New Year's in her own special way - finding someone to Crucio for a few hours - so any DEs who wanted to play in evil ways, we can do that in comments here too!


Last Night's Marking

The first thing out of place was the obvious presence of very official looking wizards at the barrier to the Platform. At least it opened as usual for anyone who knew how to pass through - but inside the oddities were more obvious: Ministry officials and hitwizards posted throughout the Platform, checking the names of every student against some sort of list.

Bethanne Reynolds, a muggleborn second year in Hufflepuff, looked confused as the hit wizard asked her name, but she gave it easily. Beside her, a Slytherin boy whose name she didn't remember did the same, and after a moment was allowed onto the Express. The witch who was checking the list clucked her tongue, though, at Bethanne.

"Doesn't look like you're on the list here, dearie. Suppose you're not a witch after all. Off with you."

"But - " Bethanne didn't know what to say. Not then, and not when she was pushed out of line by the woman so that the student behind her could step up.

Soon it was obvious, all of the muggleborn students on the Platform that day were receiving the same treatment.

Party! It was a smaller party, but still fun, says Ver! She had Toad help with the food, it was all traditional snaky foods, anything you want to have there, feel free to say it was! There was plenty of alcohol as well and room for anyone who wanted to stay. In the morning, Toad would've made breakfast: eggs and waffles and all sorts of delicious things because (as Ver says) he's BRILLIANT.

SO! Anyone who wants to have come post here and say what they did, who they snogged (Ver calls Ange and then Toad for her kisses!), anything!

Alright, the Order meeting that got called happened tonight at The Burrow around eight. Things to discuss:

- Minerva has information from a source inside the Ministry that there will be Muggleborn Registration pushed through right after the holiday. The Order has safehouses in place, but needs a method of getting muggleborns to them and was of getting them out of the country if need be. There are some organizations already laying plans to do this, like the Society for Distressed Witches, so someone Caradoc is charged with investigating Societies like those that might be able to help the Order under the radar. Maybe Lee's show can also be used to get information out to Muggleborns and get them in touch with the Order. They'll also probably need safehouses overseas, etc.

- Remus is convinced that anti-creature legislation goes hand in hand with anti-muggleborn legislation, and is going to reach out to the werewolf communities again, but has had very little luck. He brings up that he thinks he should contact Rolf Scamander about it, since Rolf has had better contact than he has. We also need people reaching out to goblins, vampires, centaurs, and giants. And merpeople. We should totally do something cool with merpeople.

- Counter terrorism with terrorism? I don't know if it would come up at the meeting or not, but I know Moody had a plan to take out the Daily Prophet. And it's time to start mounting a real answer to the Ministry occupation. I'm sure that if that's brought up it might cause some strife between the Order members who are still at the Ministry and the ones who aren't? Remus has no ideas on this, though, so he hopes there's some actual discussion and a plan put in place. He's getting a little frustrated that the Order seems to just be responding to things, rather than acting. He's just getting antsy.

- The last order meeting they had there was a list of possible recruits to the DEs. They know now that some of them have been recruited, so they should probably talk about forging ties with allied societies, recruiting more, and also what they can do to sway some of the newer Death Eaters or possible Death Eaters to reconsider - or at least to stay out of the fight.

So, Lavender and Derek had the idea to have a scavenger hunt on the grounds as an activity after Christmas for the students who stayed. This happened yesterday! He also scrounged together some prizes for the winners! Gift certificates to Weasley Wizard Wheezes for the fastest three! (Which... I guess I'll somehow figure out from the people who tag in?)

Before breakfast, Prefects moved through rooms of students who hadn’t slept the night before and called them all to the Great Hall. The assembly was mandatory, and ghosts and portraits helped to hurry the students along and make sure that no student missed the discussion.

When everyone was seated at their tables, Albus stood. He had not spoken at a feast since the beginning of the term, and moved slowly to do so now. His voice, though, when he spoke, was as strong and as full of conviction as ever.

“Students. You’ve come with questions, and it’s right that you have them. Unfortunately, today, we, your professors, do not have all the answers. We know that last night, the forces of Lord Voldemort took control of the Ministry of Magic by deadly force. Many of you have parents and loved ones who work for the Ministry, and though we know the fate of some we do not know the fate of all. For that we are sorry. We will find out what we can.”

Albus waited for the cries of surprise and outrage to quiet before he went on. “What I do know, standing before you today, is that this is only the beginning. You are safe, here, and there are forces outside our walls working to help your families and anyone else who may need it find safety. We will continue the work of this school and focus on her defense. Hogwarts no longer recognizes the authority of the Ministry of Magic. Death Eaters and the Dark Lord himself will not be walking our halls.”

“We have a job to do here, and I do not yet know what changes that job will bring to the school in the coming days.” Here Albus looked at the Slytherin table. “You must not let the prejudices of others define your futures. Or....” He looked to the other table slowly, “the actions of those outside these walls define how you are going to treat others. When Voldemort returned you were told that one day you would need to make a choice. Today, you must make that choice. The forces of darkness will batter us at all sides, and we must choose, every day, not to let them in. Not in to this school, and not in to our spirits.”

Finally, Albus looked at the Gryffindor table and directly at Harry Potter. “You must not be afraid to do what must be done.”

With that, Albus cleared his throat and turned to the other Professors, urging them to stand. “Now, if we could have a nice rendition of the schools song...”
