Holiday foliage was always a festive addition to the Noah household. Holly and mistletoe was abound, evergreen wreaths hanging over the hearths and garlands draped above the doors. There was only one variety of Christmas plant that was not allowed to pass through the door, however, and there was a very good reason for the ban. Of course, even a forbidden shrubbery would make its way into the house at inopportune times.

This occasion found Jasdebi and Rhode sitting at the kitchen table with their heads tilted at forty-five degree angles to the right, watching Lulubelle projectile vomit into the kitchen sink with identical expressions of amazement. Nobody moved to help the gagging woman, however, and it was a good fifteen minutes after the spewing had begun that Tiki entered the room with a mug of coffee in hand and a newspaper in the other.

His head tilted to the side as soon as he saw the scene, eyes wide with confusion before he realized that Lulubelle wasn’t just throwing up. He set his mug on the table with a curse, letting the newspaper fall to the floor as he strode to the pantry, muttering all the way. “God forbid you get up and help someone-“

The bottle he returned with looked plain enough, but a few spoonfuls down Lulubelle’s throat between heaves actually helped. She slid down to the floor once the vomiting stopped, breathing heavily as Tiki handed her a towel to clean herself up with. Tiki’s disapproving glare was turned to the staring children, arms crossing over his chest as he sighed in annoyance.

“Which one of you did it?” Rhode didn’t even blink, but Debitt looked aside with an expression that screamed ‘guilty’ as easily as any words could. Tiki watched with an unenthused expression as the twin boys slid down in their chairs, lips pursing in annoyance as they started to disappear beneath the table. “It would be so much easier for you if you didn’t run away. A poinsettia? In the house? You’re going to be beaten black and blue for that, you little monsters.”

Rhode grinned, taking a sip of her hot chocolate with a smug expression. “They did it on purpose, too~ You can find it sitting right next to the plants that Lulu likes to chew on in the den.” Lulubelle made a bubbling groaning sound from the floor, eliciting a roll of the eyes from Tiki.

“Honest to God, I don’t know how anyone survives longer than a few hours in this house.”
