City Council Building, Cedar Ridge County COUNCIL MEETING AND NEW ORDINANCE by Tesslyn Vale Cedar Ridge has been known for their lax laws on slaves and our tolerance, but after the attack last Sunday more and more people are thinking that the laws might be too lax. Back in December the Chronicle pole almost five hundred people and over 70% liked that slaves had more freedom here in the Cedar Ridge. Last Friday we put up another pole and about four hundred people responded with only 27% of people still believing that slaves should get what little freedoms they have. The meeting started out with Council Head Jessica Hailstone briefly talking about why their were there. She talked about the break in and the escaped slaves. One highlight was that the police was able to recapture five escaped slaves. Those slaves have already been punished sold of to other auction houses. Unfortunately no other rogue humans were found. Then the council took turns going around and speaking. The shifter council member spoke up and said that he believed that more should be done to protect the slaves against rogue humans giving them ideas about freedom. "Most of these slaves have only know slavery. They could not live with our their master's orders." The talk then turned to what to do with the three rogue humans caught during the break in. Council member Magnus Bane spoke that instead of a harsh punishment for the rouge humans that the council needed to exercise leniency. "These humans have lived most, if not all, their lives in camps. Slavery is already like death to them. That should their punishment." While General Sephiroth called for the harshest punishment. "Slavery would be too easy on them. They need the ultimate punish. Death." At his call for execution there was a stir of commotion from the rest of the council members. There has not been an execution of a human, free or slave, in almost fifty years. After more discussion they put the punishment of the rouge humans to a vote. Eight in favor for execution and six opposing. Just like that the rogue humans' fate was sealed. The next issue to tackle was restriction of slaves' rights. This vote went quickly with ten members voting for a new city ordinance that restricted slaves movement. Slaves will not be allowed to leave their homes unless accompanied by their masters. The new ordinance will go into affect possibly Monday April 4th. It was unclear how long this ordinance would be in affect for. When asked about how this will affect those slaves that have permission to have jobs Council Head Hailstone responded that "Slave should be at home with their masters." We shall see how this new ordinance is received by the population of Cedar Ridge. As for the execution of the rogue humans that is set for April 15 at dusk. |
