Brinley had agreed to go late night flying on when she was convinced that their prefects were otherwise occupied. She was trying not to think about what the Scribbler said about her and Meru because it made her think about her and Meru. She liked him. It was hard to say how she liked him because in a lot of ways, spending time with Meru was really nice. She didn't always feel so tongue-tied around him. And she was also extra grateful that Keara hadn't asked her about it.

They were almost outside and then they were heading back in. Something happened. Something big happened. As silly as it was to say, getting a hundred points deducted from your house tended to be a good indicator of what sort of trouble was going on. Brinley just wished she knew what it was and followed Keara's lead as the other girl took her head.
"Hell if I know," Brinley replied, "If it's a hundred house points serious, I'd like to check in with a teacher before I find out what is going on."
