Who:Res and Lia
Where: Their house
When: July 25, evening
What: Dinner for the twins
Rating: sfw
Status: close, complete
The sound of the door shutting down the hall was the signal that all was well once more. Their parents were out for the night finally, leaving Orestes and his sister the run of the house. That of course usually meant a chance to cook their meals and come back to their room to read or draw or whatever his sister wanted.
Carefully, he ran a hand through his rust colored hair and stepped towards the large bed that was supposed to be solely his, but usually housed both siblings in their attempts to distance themselves from their parents. ‘It looks like they’ve left finally to that dinner party. We should have most of the evening free from any sort of interruption.” He said before sliding down beside her and stretching out. “I was certain mother was going to drag out her preparations for another hour in her failed attempt to turn back time. Fortunately, father’s short temper seemed to work against her for once.”
Ophelia was stretched out on the bed (though she still hardly took any space at all) when Orestes climbed in, and a tiny smile quirked her lips at his words. It was good that they were gone. The house was empty since their older brother had moved out, and so they really could do whatever they wanted. Her hand moved to his shoulder and she looked at him for a moment. "Are you hungry? I can go cook?" Because eating more than their allotted amount was only for when their parents were out.
She shifted so she was half-sitting, ready for whatever he wanted to do. They could read or talk or anything as long as it was just them. She preferred it that way, honestly. He was the only one who she ever really wanted to interact with.
Feeling his sister’s slender hand on his shoulder, he reached up and placed his over her’s and smiled. It was a small gesture, but one that was always warm and reassuring. “It’s up to you if you’re hungry, otherwise I can wait. i’m not going to wither away and die before then.” He said with a small, teasing smile.
Of course that didn't mean he wasn't hungry, he just didn't feel right unless she was eating as well. She was far too slender sometimes and it made him worry. If only their parents gave a shit, life might have been better. But the two didn't need them. Soon enough they would be out of school and Orestes was going to be sure to take care of her. “What did you want to eat anyways?”
Ophelia was used to his touch and did not flinch from it as she did with others. It was a comfort to have him, and she didn't think she'd have made it as far as she had without him. She shrugged a bit at his words. "I'll eat if you're hungry. I don't want to cook for just me though." Because in her mind that would be pointless.
A thoughtful look crossed her face. What did she want to eat? It hadn't gone that far in her head. She didn't know. Food was food in her mind, serving to keep the pair of them functioning. "I'll eat whatever if we're going to eat?"
“You need to eat more.” He said with a frown as he shifted to face her. “But you know that if you cook, I’ll eat it. Your food is my favorite after all.” He offered a reassuring smile when he did. It was only with Lia that he was naturally this caring. She was a part of him after all.
Her answer did earn a slight sigh from him as he shook his head. “Isn’t there anything that you particularly want to eat? Chicken, fish, something else perhaps?”
Ophelia laughed softly and teasingly shook her head at him. "I'll eat. I'm just small and so I don't need much." It was true. She tended to give him bits of her food because she knew he needed it more than she did. "Maybe something simple? Burgers or sandwiches?"
She mussed his hair and shrugged. "I'm not picky." Because she couldn't be. They ate what they were given or they went hungry. It wasn't that there wasn't foods she liked, she just would eat what she was given.
“You are small because you don't eat much.” He said with a small huff. He was tall but not too tall fortunately. It kept him average and unnoticeable. “Hmmm, that’s a tough choice. How about burgers?” He said, his stomach growling slightly in response as well. Apparently he was a bit more hungry than he thought.
“Hey!” He huffed and ran a hand through his hair until it went back into place. “I know you’re not, but sometimes it’s nice to eat what you want to eat.” It was a rare thing for them and he liked to see her enjoying things rather than simply taking what was given. Orestes often went out of his way to attempt to do that for her.
"I am small because I never grew." A teasing smirk and she met his eyes, amused. She liked her height honestly. It was one of the ways she was unique. "I can make burgers. That would be good actually." She nodded and slipped from the bed, straightening the shorts and tank she slept in at home.
"It's always nice to be able to eat." Anything really. She honestly was not picky, as she said. She just liked having enough to fill her stomach. "Do you think maybe there is some ice cream we could sneak after? Or we could maybe go to the store if there isn't?"
"Yeah? And here I thought you weren't growing just to be stubborn." He grinned as he teased her. She was petite, but there was nothing wrong with that. He liked the way his sister looked after all.
Getting up, Orestes stretched out, arching his back as his muscles flexed. "I'm sure we can find some. What flavor do you want Lia? I'll go and get it for you." Getting it from a muggle store would be easy.
A soft laugh and she shook her head. "I think you stole all the height. I got nothing but the leftovers." Because she was incredibly small and slim. It didn't much bother her but then little did when it came to her looks.
"Chocolate chip maybe?" Because she liked chocolate but she also liked the contrast of flavours in that. Her eyes moved to meet his and she shrugged. "We can share some and it'll be nice."
“Sorry, I think it’s just because I like you little. It’s easier to pick you up there and hide you in places.” He grinned at her and playfully patted her head to make a point as he chuckled. He did like being the big older brother though, even if it was only by a few minutes.
“Oooo, just chocolate chip, or mint chocolate chip? Because I might just get both if that’s the selection.” deciding to act on impulse, Orestese reached out and wrapped his arm around her waist to pick her and start carrying her towards the kitchens. It was something that no one at school would ever seen him do, only those absolutely closest to the twins would.
Ophelia rolled her eyes playfully at him and shook her head. "You like being the big brother, I know." She lightly poked his side and smiled at him. She loved him no matter how he teased her and occasionally because of that, so the joking was nothing more than routine.
"Both I think." She giggled as he lifted her from her feet and carried her to the kitchen. She could walk, sure, but she had no issue with this either. It was funny honestly. She allowed one hand to move to his side, playfully tickling him as they moved just to let him know she was okay with this.
“It’s traditional for the brother to bigger in order to protect the little sister.” He winked at her, lettint out a low chuckle at the poke. Their teasing and playfulness was something special between the two. It was rare that others earned a laugh from him, but Lia could always get it from him easily.
“Both it is then. We can have it for the next few days that way. Late night snacks when the two of them are asleep.” What their parents never knew didn't hurt the two of them. When she began to tickle him, he tried to shift away, but it was hard as he held her. “Careful or I’m going to drop you Lia.”
She nodded. He always did protect her and so it was good for her. She kissed his cheek and grinned wickedly at him. The pair of them had each other no matter what. Laughing and teasing was just part of their rapport and she was grateful for that.
"Yes, that sounds really good." A nod at his indication. It was going to be good to have things to snack on. She could eat a good deal of ice cream on a regular basis and while she didn't eat a lot most of the time, it was something she really enjoyed. As to the tickling she shook her head. "You've never dropped me yet."
“There’s always a chance for the first time.” He said, trying to sound serious, but failing as the smile only grew wider on his lips. He’d never drop her and they both knew it. Lia was the most important thing to him. He was there to make sure she was safe and cared for, and he was fairly sure she felt the same about it as well.
Walking into the large kitchen, he looked around and frowned at the opulence of it all. He didn't know why his parents even had something so large. It wasn't as if their mother ever cooked, and especially not for them. But there was enough in the fridge to cook and that was what mattered. “So want me to get the stuff out while you start cooking? Then I can hit the store and bring back what we need and ice cream?”
"I doubt it." Lia smirked at him. She knew he would not do anything to hurt her, that much was a certainty in her mind. "You're brilliant that way, keeping me safe and all." When she was set down, she headed right to the fridge and started sifting through things to start dinner.
"Ground beef, cheese, potatoes, salt and pepper." Ophelia nodded and started pulling knives and bowls to get herself cooking. It would be easier if he ran out to pick up the rest of the things they needed. "Hurry though. I don't like being here without you."
“Of course.” He wrote down the list and then went to small jar that held money for the family to use. He then gave her a quick kiss on the forehead before apparating out and disappearing to the market. Orestes made quick work, buying double what they needed so they could have the meal again. He also bought a few extra snacks that they could keep in their rooms for those days that their parents didn't want to see the two.
Fifteen minutes later, he was back with arms full of groceries as he laid them out. “Got it all and some extra while we can.” He moved to put the ice cream away and pile the extras in a bag to take to their room. “Need any more help, or should I go sit like a good boy and let you work?”
Ophelia was grateful for his willingness to do shopping for the pair of them. She loved cooking for him, it made her happy to be sure he was well fed. She noted that he came back with a lot more than he had to, and she knew the purpose. It was clever of him. She was glad of it.
"Put the food in our room and then come back and keep me company." She ran a hand through her hair and grinned at him before washing up, moving to the stove to turn it on. A skillet was placed to heat up and she turned to wait for him after shaping a few burgers to put on the heat.
Orestes made quick work of hiding the food in their room, sticking it in one of the compartments of his school chest in case his mother decided to come in and snoop around again. She’d done it periodically to see fi they had things that belonged to the rest of the family, namely the books that Orestes often took from the family library to read. He’d gotten better at hiding them over the years though.
A few minutes later, he walked back over and leaned against the counter to watch her. “Someday, you’re going to make some man a lucky husband.’ He teased as she started to make the patties. “I’m surprised they haven't started to plan our future spouses yet for political connections, or maybe they’re just too ashamed of us,”
Ophelia rolled her eyes and shook her head when he spoke about their future spouses. "They know I'll refuse. It's not a fight they want with me yet." Because she was skilled at potions and her parents knew that if they really harmed her or Orestes, or did something that split them? They'd have to test their food as long as they lived.
"How about you though. Any girls have your interest?" She tossed a smile at him, though a hint of curiosity flickered in her eyes. She liked him happy and knowing that he was made her feel good.
“True, it’s not something either of us would truly be interested in, but I would have assumed they’d do it in an attempt to have us out of the house as soon as possible.” But Lia was right, and Orestes wouldn't want to earn her ire yet either.
“Me? Not exactly. Not that I’ve looked much. I find much more from books than any form of a social life.” That’s not say that he didn't think some girls were beautiful, like their joint friend. But he just didn't think he’d pursue anything. Of course, who knew what could happen when it came to school starting.
"They'll likely try to make us marry some obnoxious purists. It will be horrid." Ophelia did not like thinking of things like that. Marrying someone was not her goal in life. She loved being with her brother and working on her potions and having a husband meant she would be stuck at home cooking and cleaning.
A soft laugh and she nodded. "Yes, I know what you mean. Dating just doesn't seem all that interesting." She shook her head and turned back to her cooking, flipping the patties carefully and watching the sizzling food as it cooked.
"Just so long as they do not match me with Serafina Vetrov. She is a nice woman and a good friend but I have a feeling she will rule any household she is given to." He made a face at the thought. Honestly, he wanted someone calm and quiet like he and his sister probably.
"Good. Because you are not allowed to date." He tried to be serious, but the quirk of his lips just couldn't hide the playfulness behind the words. " I mean I'd be worried for the poor man after all."
Ophelia wrinkled her nose slightly. "No one is good enough, Res." Because that was her firm belief. Her brother was the most important person in her life and she would not allow him to be sold off to just anyone. She was certain of that.
"Not interested anyway." Dating wasn't something that had ever caught her attention. She knew she was interested in boys but the fact was, none had meant more to her than her twin did. She wanted him happy first.
“Now you are just attempting to flatter me. I’m sure there is someone far more worthy than we realize but we’ll have to find them someday. Perhaps we should just have someone to share now and again.” He joked with a shrug. It was hard to imagine any sort of romance right now though. He’d have to wait and see.
“Well good. Now that that is settled, is the food ready yet? The smell is starty to tempt my stomach into eating itself here rather quickly.”
"Honest." A grin crossed her lips and she hugged him tightly. Her brother really was the only one she saw this way, so being around him she wanted to be sure he got the best possible person he could. Love was required for him. He deserved that. He didn't get nearly as much as he should.
She flipped one of the burgers onto a plate and pulled out a bun for it. She plated up the food for him and smiled. "All ready for you. Enjoy!" She followed the same process for her food, taking a bite of it as soon as it was ready.
Orestes smile turned tender as Lia hugged him, immediately he returned it and kissed the top of her head. There wasn't anyone in the world he cared for more. It was them against the world after all, and that was how it was always going to be.
As always, he waited for her food to be finished as well before taking a large bite of it and letting out a happy groan. “Mmmmm now that is good. Fantastic as always my dearest.”
Ophelia ate rapidly, a habit of sorts. She did not want to risk the food being taken and while she knew that Orestes wouldn't, there was still the fear of losing her meal.
When she was done she looked at him with a soft smile. "So, now that we've been fed, what to do?" Aside from taking their ice cream to their room. That was the next stop for her, based on logic.
Orestes wasn't quite as fast as his sister. He wanted to enjoy the food while he had it. But when it was gone, he looked towards his sister. “Hmmm, I believe that there’s ice cream and cuddling in order. We could listen to music or read something if you’re so inclined?”
As he spoke, he went about grabbing the two flavors of ice cream and putting them out on the counter before grabbing the bowls. His sister could cook and he would scoop. That wasn't a problem at least. “One scoop or two Lia?”
"Reading something would be good." She liked books and honestly having him read for the pair of them would be nice. She rested her head on his chest for a second before looking over at the steps.
"One scoop." Because she didn't need much food really. Just a little bit. The ice cream would be enjoyable, a treat they rarely were able to enjoy. She liked sweets generally and she knew that Orestes felt the same. Cuddling and eating and reading would make for an excellent evening.
“Alright, better go pick something out, or we’re going to end up with the iliad once again.” Thanks to their names, Orestes had a love of greek mythology, and often read them for fun. He’d even gone about learning both greek and latin to do so in their original languages.
At his sister’s request, he placed one scoop in her bowl, and then half a scoop more. Honestly, he wanted her to eat more. It was rare they got treats like this, so he wanted to indulge her. He then placed two scoops in his own bowl before grabbing both. “Shall we?”
Ophelia nodded and hopped off to grab a book from one of the shelves, carrying it with her as they walked to their room. His bed was where they tended to end up and she crawled in, cuddling and wrapping herself around a pillow comfortably.
She took the bowl of ice cream from him when she was settled, spooning a bit into her mouth. It was good, and she hummed a bit, pleased at the treat.
Orestes was careful as he flopped onto the bed and stretched out. he took a bit more space than needed, but Lia would probably end up half on top of him cuddling anyways. He then began to eat his ice cream and reached for the book.
Looking it over, he smiled and moved to snuggle her against him. “Alright, ready to begin?”
