Adrian's dad had come home late from the office, and so Adrian wasn't able to sit down with him - and his Mom again - until after dinner. Adrian felt a little bad leaving Jackson watching the WWN on his own since Narissa was out with friends. It gave Adrian a chance to tell his parents about Tony Stark on his own. There were hugs, and support and his parents were fantastic as always, but Adrian was conscious of the fact that now there was more proof he wasn't really their son. He came out of the study feeling as conflicted as he had going in, but at least it had gone well. It waited to be seen how their relationships changed as a result of the revelations.
"You should've gone somewhere else for the night." Adrian said when he found Jackson still on the sofa. He went to the kitchen to get a chocolate bar. Chocolate always helped.
Jackson had settled to stare at the television, zoning in and out. He had subtly emptied his flask to avoid the temptation of the alcohol and so it was a bit boring waiting, but he said he would be there. He would not leave his friend. When Adrian came out, and then went to obtain chocolate, he smiled faintly. “Let’s go over to your room?” Because he assumed he could hang out in there until Adrian was ready for bed, and then he could head back to the couch and crash there. He was not about to leave his friend at any point this evening though.
Adrian nodded. He was tired, honestly. It had been a long day. He flopped on the bed on his back. He had some of the chocolate before offering some to Jackson. He sighed. He'd gotten through two of the talks. "I still have to tell Sissy." And to start sharing who his birth father was.
Jackson seated himself carefully on the edge of the bed, his fingers lightly playing over Adrian’s hair. He didn’t really know how to help- how could someone help with this? But he had to do what he could, and that meant being with his friend until he was ready to rest. “You’ll tell her when the time is right. Just let yourself deal with it and go from there.” Because he knew that Adrian was having a hard time as it was, without thinking about telling Narissa.
"The timing couldn't be much worse." Adrian murmured. Although given that he'd never really been curious about his birth father, the truth was there was never going to be a good time. The fact that it had happened in the aftermath of a possible return of Lady Nyx's followers was no worse than any other time - except for the fact that his family was already emotional. This became just one more thing. "He didn't want to do it at school though since I'm not in his class."
"I'm here. I know it's not a lot but you can use me as a sounding board until you figure out things." He continued to lightly stroke over his friend's hair for a moment longer before shifting to sit on the edge of the bed and hugging him. It was the comfort he could offer at the moment. "Anything you need, I'm here."
"You shouldn't have to deal with my mess either." Adrian was not used to being this revealed emotionally. It was as much as statement of their closeness that Adrian had reached out to Jackson at all. "This shouldn't be so much of a mess… it just… caught me off guard." And who it was - a man who loved nothing more than attention, where Adrian had always hidden in plain sight. It was going to be an issue that was not going to go away. He sighed, and then quite deliberately turned his attention on the beautiful blue-eyed boy with his arms around him. "Since my situation is not going away… how are you healing?"
"I'm your friend. Your mess is mine as well." Adrian needed to see he could depend on Jackson. That was important to him at this point. He wanted his friend to see that he was doing better. "And of course it caught you off guard. You had no inkling that anyone had even an idea of it. It's okay to be shocked and upset. Or confused. Or anything. Angry even, that he didn't come around sooner." Jackson didn't know what Adrian was feeling but he needed to be able to accept whatever it was as normal. "And I'm healing fine. No more potion even." Not that it didn't hurt but part of sobering up meant stopping that too.
"All of it." Confused mostly, and scared. Still, "It is not his fault he didn't show up earlier - Wallace hid her pregnancy and didn't tell anyone much of anything about it. If I'm angry… its that my Dad isn't my father." Except Jonathan Smith had never been his birth father - and couldn't be. "And that is wishing at the moon." Adrian shook his head. "I'm glad you aren't mixing potions with alcohol… it'll be nice when the immobilization completely wears off."
"It's understandable. This is still your family though. Just because he's genetically your parent doesn't mean anything." Jackson absently started to stroke Adrian's hair again, trying to ease at least a little of the stress. "Jonathan is still your dad, no matter what happens." A small smile. "And none of either. Haven't had potions or alcohol since...I stopped by yesterday? Maybe before." Because he'd been sobering up at that point and what Adrian had said had gotten to him.
"Fuck… if you're not drunk you're going to realize what a bore I really have become." Adrian joked, although with more than a kernel of truth in it. He sighed again. Jackson's touch was relaxing. Or perhaps distracting was more accurate.
"You've never been a bore to me." Jackson was sincere in that. Being around Adrian had always been a positive thing to him. He loved his friend and that was partly why he was sober now. He wanted to be that person Adrian could depend on, and drinking and downing potions like he had been, he couldn't be. "I've always found you interesting."
Adrian couldn't really argue with that. Well he could but it would be a stupid disagreement. "We should check our supply lists and start packing for school again… I should." Adrian corrected. "You live your life packed so that is at least easier for you."
Jackson laughed softly and shook his head. "Right now you should just relax. You can worry on the packing later." His eyes moved to his friend's and he shrugged. "Lie down. I'll give you a back rub and you can try to doze. It's been a long day."
Adrian shook his head. "It's okay. Thank you." He was still processing, but just having his friend there was a comfort, if Adrian thought about it. At the moment, he was still replaying his conversation with his parents and generally trying to sort out his own identity and place in his family now.
Jackson nodded, accepting the refusal and lightly tracing his fingers over Adrian's forehead. "Whatever you need, I'm here." His voice was quiet, allowing for his friend to ignore the words for now if he so chose. He wouldn't push. He didn't know what Adrian needed and so he would just be there and that would be all.
That was what Adrian needed - a friend. A relationship that didn't feel threatened by having a father coming into his life. Something in his life that wasn't being complicated or challenged at the moment. Not that things with Jackson weren't complicated recently, but it seemed at the moment as though they were back to normal. Adrian appreciated just having him there. "Thank you," was still the only reasonable reply.
