The Redferns were a name well known among the pure-bloods of the Wizarding World. They held political position and power, remaining well-connected and with influence and ties to many of the families. Those that knew their affiliation with the Deatheaters knew never to speak of it because it could never be proven. If the Redferns were good at anything, it was hiding in a veil of smoke and mirrors that nobody could navigate to a real conclusion. After the fall of Lady Nyx, nothing ever stuck and the family remained unmarred for the most part. The patriarch of the family, Hunter, was the most influential of them all and he along with his wife, Roseclear, hosted the holiday party. Only those who had footing or a name worth something found themselves invited, and not everyone accepted, but most did. For the Redferns weren't known as a family fanatical for blood-purity. Hunter had, after all adopted the half-blood John Quinn as his own son since his wife only gave forth daughters. The party itself was hosted in the massive estate that remained in the Redfern line for generations. The enormous home had many rooms and the interior was almost baroque in style but cut back a bit on being fully embellished. The food was catered and prepared by the best of chefs, house elves presented the food, wearing borrowed clothing, not given, so they would always remain in servitude. The food was of the best quality and on trays were spirits to ease the party-goers into a relaxed atmosphere. It was an excellent place for networking and shmoozing, and plenty of that was going on. As the evening drew into the night and the drinks kept going, a few people would go to play cards in rooms set apart for the activity and others went to wander in the extensive gardens that sat behind the home. Some wandered the hallways and if they tried to venture into places they shouldn't, protective spells prevented them from advancing and they were guided back to the party. Upon entering, the guests were greeted by Hunter and his wife, and then by the more immediate family. Hunter's brothers and sisters and their children. Anyone who knew of James Rasmussen noted his absence and when asked where he was, they were told he couldn't make it to the party. Otherwise, all of the Redferns were there for the greeting, including Ash, who put on a smile, shook hands, winked, and acted as his charming self until all those who RSVP'd arrived and he was left to his own devices. Many of the adults remained in the main ballroom and the children they brought along with them lingered elsewhere to converse unless their parents demanded they remain at their side. The night was how it often was for the Redferns. Classy and elegant, and relatively drama free. Any tiffs that did begin were quickly intervened by Hunter. Those who were found to be at fault were persuaded to apologize or politely asked to leave. The Redferns would not stand for such dramatics on the eve of what was meant to be a nice holiday celebration. |
