Henley actually enjoyed the time of day when everything was done and over with. No more work to be done, no more meals to be eaten, just a small slice of time between the end of the day and sleep. Sometimes it was spent amusing herself with solitaire or chatting with her trailermate Peter Vincent, but most of the time Henley found herself roaming the grounds simply to stretch her legs and get a breath of fresh air. Tonight she’d decided she wouldn’t stray too far from the trailer given the current predicament with the not-so-dead folk walking around.
Just when she was about to turn around and double back she saw a form slouched on the ground, not rambling about like the undead she’d seen. Henley wrinkled her eyebrows, squinting slightly to get a better look.
“Hello?” She called out, but the form didn’t acknowledge her. Against her better judgement, Henley edged closer to investigate. As she got closer it appeared to be a child she was dealing with. She stooped down and tapped the child on the shoulder and was greeted with a frightful sight. The thing turned its head, showing sunken in features marked with decay. Henley let out a gasp and moved to step backwards, but the creature turned its head and chomped down on her forearm before she could manage to put a decent distance between the two of them.
“Ow!” Henley scrambled to move away, only barely glancing at the bite mark on her forearm. She ran away from the hungry figure, slowing down only when she was sure that she’d gotten away. Henley slowed her pace and examined her arm as she walked.
“Shit, shit, shit...” She muttered under her breath.
