3 October 1939
Who: Leonie Derwent and Tiberius Ogden
Where: The hallway and one of the non-main staircases
When: 3 October 1939, after class
Summary: Tiberius gets rugby tackled (his opinion). Why Leonie doesn't really do crushes anymore, imo.

Rating: PG
Status: Complete

Technically Leonie wasn't really following him. It was just that they were headed the same way. Hugging her books to herself, she couldn't help staring at the back of his head, wondering how he kept his blond hair really nice. No, of course she wasn't going to ask him that! That would be rude.

She did, however, want to know how he got full marks in the test Professor Dumbledore had given them. But Leonie had never really had a conversation with him, and wouldn't that be odd, asking a Ravenclaw how he got full marks? Surely they would just answer something like "Well, I studied." It really did sound like something silly to ask.

Pursing her lips she decided not to say anything but kept walking behind him. She was also realising that she was walking a little faster, and tried to slow down -- except she ended up practically dragging her feet so that she would slow down. Then she realised that she was being ridiculous and started to walk like a normal person again, even though she was starting to approach him (and that made her more nervous than she already was).

It wasn't so hard to do. He was strolling towards the library at his usual slow, languid pace. Although he was looking about at his surroundings and acknowledging the people he knew, he never looked behind him. And while there were occasions in classes where he thought someone was looking at the back of his head or at him, no one was still looking at him when he turned around. Nonetheless, he did make an effort to cover his test papers more carefully when he was writing them.

He would usually ease off the studying after receiving such a mark, but after declining some offers to play cards or chat from other students, he was going to use that high to study some more. He may have looked ecstatic when he got his paper back, but his expression fell a little when his questions about the average marks and the median were addressed. So he was heading towards the staircase and occasionally glancing out the window to look at the sunny weather.

Then it was a good thing that he did not suspect that anyone was following him. Not that she was following him, per se. They were just going the same direction. Emphasis on the word 'same'. Leonie had every intention to go to the Great Hall and meet up with her friends. Secretly (or not-so-secretly since you can read this), she was also hoping that Tiberius would move his head a little so she could see his face.

Or maybe not because then he'd notice that she was right behind him. Not that she had anything to be guilty about. Once she was done going down the stairs they'd be able to go their separate ways.

When he moved his head to look outside the window, she'd actually thought that he was going to look back, and his movement startled her so much that she'd actually dropped the telescope she had been carrying around for her Astronomy class, and while she heard nothing break, she watched in horror as it rolled gently down the stairs and landed right next to his feet.

Tiberius almost stepped on it. Well, his foot touched it as he was about to step down, and he effectively stopped the telescope from rolling further. After briefly staring at the telescope and thanking his good fortune in not having fallen down the stairs, especially with momentum from his bag of filled with books, he first looked about to see whom it might belong to. Bemusement was on his face as he finally looked behind him, and he was obviously startled to see Leonie so close to him.

Her. He gripped the handrail for support. She was in some of his classes, and he knew she was in his year, but he mostly remembered seeing her before he was mysteriously pushed into a girls' lavatory earlier in the week. He couldn't fathom why, as he couldn't recall any other interaction with her. Perhaps she was trying to impress the Wall-like Scrimgeour. His brow furrowed slightly as he adopted his butter-wouldn't-melt expression, and he summoned every ounce of manners he had to offer a polite, "Hello."

To be fair, Leonie didn't mean to shove him into the girls' loo. It was just that he was in the way, and she was on a hurry -- to class. And to get away from him quickly, of course. Naturally, she'd run into him, but it wasn't her intention at all to shove him! And she didn't even know what she'd done, either, not even now (though it had to be said that if she had stayed longer and heard the horrified shrieks of the Third Years that had happened to be in said loo, she would have figured out what had happened), so of course, she had no idea why he had looked at her with bemusement, nor did she really understand why he was holding on to the railing.

What she did understand was that he'd said Hello and that was when her usually working brain... snapped. Imagine it to be a circuit happily charging electricity like any other normal circuit, and then someone cutting that circuit.

Right now was probably a good time to say something, but Leonie couldn't say anything as she was swallowing the fact that he'd just said hello to her. She also knew she was starting to blush, and that horrified her even more. Incoherent words came out of her mouth (it sounded suspiciously like "fellescope ummm"), she rushed forward to pick up her telescope again, and as she had been rushing (again), she wasn't exactly looking where she was going or the fact that she had bumped into him rather hard as she retrieved her telescope.

To Tiberius, 'bump' was an awfully soft description for it. 'Shoulder barge' or 'tackle' seemed more apt. He was holding onto the handrail, and he was trying to not stare at his classmate like she was completely mad when she spoke to him. Or at him. And seemed to move towards him. He did comprehend that it was her telescope, but that didn't assuage his fears.

He'd hesitantly moved to take another step away from her and had a foot in the air. But the next thing he knew, he was tackled/shoulder barged and had slid to the landing on his side, his previous grip slowing him down. He lost his hold on his bookbag, and it had thumped past him, allowing him to also hit the bag when he was at the bottom.

He was sprawled out and on his back. He was in pain. There were scrapes, bumps, and when he gingerly touched the side of his head with his hand, he grimaced and he could feel blood on his fingers. It was a bit funny if someone witnessed it, he supposed, and he was grateful he didn't take her down the stairs with him, but he sorely wish that he at least had a cushion that wasn't his bookbag digging into his back. Except the thought of having to move seemed painful as well. And at the moment, he really wanted his mum.

She didn't even realised that Tiberius had fallen down the stairs. For a moment, Leonie stood there, looking gratefully at her telescope and turning to Tiberius to possibly thank him, possibly not, with the intention of running away two seconds after she did/or didn't apologise. Luckily for her, an apology wasn't necessary at that very moment, since when she turned around, she saw Tiberius on the floor, and no longer on the staircase. She blinked, wondering how he got there. Did he fly?

Of course he didn't fly.

Judging from where he had fallen from and the look on his face, it didn't take her long to figure out that he was injured. Stuffing her telescope into her bag, she rushed downstairs, nearly slipping herself, but her hand was holding tight on to the railing, and no one was bumping into her (also, maybe she just had better balance than Tiberius?). "Oh no, oh no, oh no," she mumbled, crouching down next to him, and just like any other fourteen year old who had just realised how much trouble they were in, her eyes started to well up. "I'm going to get the nurse for you, okay?" she said, trying to sound reassuring, but failing, while a part of her was thinking 'I am talking to Tiberius!'. "Don't pass out!" Still in tears, she stood up again and started running towards the Hospital Wing, hoping that he wasn't too hurt, and making a mental note to tell her father what happened if he did.
