The Phone Book (1/1)
Title: The Phone Book
Characters: Chris Kirkpatrick, Jc Chasez
Summary: Chris deals with his emotions.
"Goddamnit," I mutter under my breath as I start ripping up the object in my hands. "She didn't have to go and do that, now did she?" I nearly drop the object as I search for my lighter. One page falls out of my hand and drifts slowly to the floor.
"Goddamnit." I repeat, watching its decent. I find my lighter in my pocket and set the rest of the book down and flick on the lighter. I light the runaway page and set it between two other pages. I stand back and watch as the whole thing catches fire. As I watch the flames lick at the pages, charring them past the point where they can't be read, I feel a sensation of being cleansed.
"What the fuck?" I jumped as someone yelled. I turned to find JC standing there, staring at the burning book.
"It's nothing, C." I say, turning back to watch as the book burned. JC came running in and started stomping on the book.
"What the fuck!" I screamed as I launched myself at JC.
"I thought I asked YOU that, Chris." he said, as the book went into smoldering ashes. "Why did you set this on fire?"
"Because it felt right." I said. I didn't want to tell him about Dani, not yet. But JC is JC. He stood there, watching me.
"Why, Chris?" he asked again, softer than before.
"Too many memories." I said, looking down at the charred black pile of ashes that used to be a phone book. I blinked back tears as the memories of the prank calls came through my mind.
"Is it Dani?" JC asked softly. I shook my head. How right he was, he'll never know. I couldn't tell him. I looked him in the eyes and sighed.
"It's time I grew up, is all."
