Arnie. Vasilissa the Wise
name: Arnie
ij/lj username: scv_goodtogo
are you over 18?: yup
how can we contact you?: See here
character’s name: Vasilissa the Wise
character’s journal: there_idkwhere
fandom: Russian folktales
medium: stories
version: being a stock character she's made of bits of this and that; not to be confounded with Vasilissa the Beautiful
point in canon: lets just say she's husbandless at this point, as most stories start from there
how does your character look like?: Tall, slender, pale skin, red full lips and golden (really, golden) hair. She may not be beautiful per se, but she's very charming and wears herself with pride. Also, she's using elegant and expensive clothes, with elaborate embroideries of her own creation.
pb: Patricia van der Vliet
does the character have supernatural/magical/preternatural powers? she can transform into a bird and she's in good relations with many helpful beings as bees, ants etc; she's a sorceress of sorts, performing small tricks.
does your character have any ‘normal’ talents? she's a skilled weaver and she's very good at rowing.
list any special items your character will carry in the city she'll find a way to make someone get what she needs in town.
describe your character’s personality As her typist sees her, Vasilissa is charming, clever, cold and singled minded, all packaged with princessy ribbons. She knows what she wants and is able to get it. She doesn't need saving, but she wants it, mayhaps it motivates her. The proper thing to do is to find a man (usually a prince); he doesn't have to be smart, or brave, he just has to be handsome and enthusiastic and she'll do all the work, giving him all the credit in the end. Thus, she might be a little clingy, centering her life around her husband (marriage or no play, obviously), but manages not to show it.
She likes to show off her abilities, albeit not bluntly. For example, running away with Ivan, she asks him to get off his horse, put an ear to the ground and see if they are being followed. When Ivan sais he doesn't hear anything, so they're probably safe, Vasilissa lights off her horse and says she hears great noise of chasing. But she is elegant about it and doesn't rub it in his face.
Being single minded, she is innocently cruel when things stand in her and her beloved's path. It's only natural for the mean king who wants her as wife to not only die, but make him boil to death in a cauldron and be publicly humiliated, without even a blink from her part, right? Right!
familiarize us with your character’s history Well, I'll stick with this main plot: Vasilissa is the daughter of the Water King; Ivan, on the other hand, has been promised to the Water King, as a child, by his father (who was easily tricked into doing this). On the way to the castle, as a reward for his acts of kindness, he is advised to steal the clothes of a bathing Vasilissa, who, in exchange for them would promise great service.
Back at the Water King's castle, 3 times Ivan is asked to do a seemingly impossible task or lose his head and 3 times he is saved by Vasilissa, who sends a crying Ivan to bed and does all the work in his place. Married at last, Ivan gets tired of the demanding King, and all of a sudden he seems to be missing his family. Vasilissa shares his mindset (about the demanding Water King) and off they go, leaving enchanted puppets in their bed to impersonate them and buy them time.
Vasilissa is forced to shapeshift and is trapped in that form; she sends Ivan home saying that for 1 year he isn't supposed to let anyone kiss him, lest he will forget her. A year forward, Vasilissa arrives at her husband's home only to find him on the verge of marrying someone else. But she wouldn't stand for that, so, in the end, they are at last reunited.
is there a job your character would like to apply for? not at this point
