Jimmy felt the world fly by him as the Police officer hauled him up off of Derby's prostrate figure. His surroundings were still an irritating mess of blurry figures, and when the older man set him on his feet again, Jimmy stumbled a little as he tried to catch his balance. What had that jackass said? What had just happened?
"Are you alright sir?" The policeman bent to haul Derby to his feet, before nodding at Tad in recognition. "Yeah, Mr.Spencer's been quite generous this month. What are you boys doing down on the boardwalk? Isn't it a little dangerous here?"
Even though Jimmy was blind, it didn't mean he couldn't hear what the older man meant. What his tone said was, 'aren't you boys slumming it today?' and he boiled at the thought of being excluded from that umbrella of grace. Instead, he stood and rubbed his face, trying to make his watery eye return to normal. Derby's fingernails were obviously long enough for him to snort coke from, no fucking small wonder they had the capacity to blind people. The only good thing about the cop was, it gave Jimmy a chance to try and recover. And if he kept talking like a concerned uncle to Tad and Derby, it would give Jimmy the chance to bolt, once he could see again.
He never should have gotten out of bed this morning... dwelling on this, James rubbed his eye, and waited.
