WHO: Amber Coote and... Peter.
WHAT: Dinner... or working on going to the Great Hall, anyway.
WHERE: Somewhere in a hallway.
WHEN: Around... dinnertime.

Amber's day had started quite slowly. Perhaps due to the fact that she'd shuffled her way to class, not particularly eager to resume classes after the VERY nice two week break they'd all had. It was nice being back at the school, of course, as there were plenty of people that she thought were ABSOLUTELY wonderful but hadn't spent much (or in some cases, any) time with over the holiday. Now that classes were done, however, she was a bit happier and bit less likely to drag her feet as she walked.

Rather, she was MORE THAN HAPPY to walk along at a quick pace. This might have been affected by the growl in her stomach, as she hadn't had a snack since lunch and, well, she was hungry. It was likely a combination of the quick pace, hunger, and distraction of thinking about her return to classes that caused Amber to knock into someone on her way to dinner.

"Oops. I'm sorry! Apparently I'm not doing a very good job of looking where I'm going," she apologized, with a bit of a frown. Yes, clearly, the term was off to an excellent start. Not.

A new term didn't mean much for Peter other than he could get detentions again. It was nice to have a break from that. But also, it meant he didn't have much to do that warranted detentions, and that wasn't as much fun. He liked being a pain in the ass to every living creature, but at home, with his mother, it was hard to get out of line. While he might not listen to her that often, the swift slap to the back of the head that she typically delivered was effective.

Hands in the pockets of his trousers, Peter had been moseying along, not really concerned if he got to dinner at time. He'd have a spot with Eddie regardless, but it also meant sitting with Callum. Even though the Quidditch captain wasn't as suspicious as he should be, Peter still couldn't stand to be around him. His obliviousness to the whole situation probably irritated him more than anything.

Trying to clear his mind of such thoughts, the boy shook his head just in time to be run into. The sixth year stumbled forward a bit, letting out a groan of annoyance. "The fuck?" the words flew from his mouth before he could think, but thankfully on discovery of who it was, couldn't get in trouble for swearing (unless she told).

"Walk much?" He questioned, an amused look on his face.

Running smack into Peter wasn't exactly high on her list of things to do in the course of a day, but there were worse people to accidentally crash into. For example, running into the older Urquhart would have left her jittery for at least an hour. Once she'd regained her balance properly, she offered him a grin.

"You'd think by now I'd have gotten the hang of it," Amber replied, slightly relieved that... well, that he'd said something that she could actually respond to without feeling terribly awkward. "Just a bit distracted, sorry about that." It was just... dinner sounded so good, classes had been slightly overwhelming after two weeks of not studying, and her mind couldn't seem to focus on that at the same time as walking.

"How was your holiday, Peter?" With more or less 90% of the school, Amber would have used a ridiculous, cutesy nickname instead of the person's actually name. However, certain people were spared due to either a) names that simply couldn't be nicknamed or b) being too INTIMIDATING. Peter fell within the last category, due to every other word that came out of the bloke's mouth.

The boy offered a smirk in response to her reply, not really feeling the need to add a cutting line. While he was typically the bane of everyone's existence, he didn't deliver sharp lines every time he opened his mouth. He did temporarily consider offering a possible reason for why she was distracted, but thought better of it. It was more amusing to offer a smart ass reply when the person wasn't expecting it, and it was all too easy for him to say something sexually crude right then.

Peter was surprised that she tried to keep conversation with him though, having half expected her to just scamper off on her way to the Great Hall. It was always weird how girls like her were more ballsy than the girls that typically thought they were bad ass.

"Don't remember most of it." He shrugged, hands returning to his pockets for safe keeping. "Too drunk." He then added the unnecessary explanation with a lopsided smirk. He didn't expand on it though, because that would require going into embarrassing detail about how he did it over a stupid girl. Well, one night, at least. The other nights he couldn't require were mostly from just too much partying in general.

Amber had gotten drunk exactly once during the holidays. Other than Matt and Lynne's party, she'd stayed very much so sober. This wasn't exactly odd for her, especially considered she'd only gotten a chance to attend one party over the holiday. Besides, she would happily inform anyone that she didn't need alcohol to have a good time. (Sometimes, though, getting drunk was rather fun.)

"I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing," Amber replied, with a bit of shrug. "Either you partied, which would be a good thing, or you just didn't have anything better to do." Which, well, wouldn't be the BEST reason in the world to get drunk. Really, she was just rambling off a response due to the fact that... well, she wasn't ENTIRELY sure what to say. So, rambling resulted.

"I'm already starting to miss the holiday," she admitted. "I enjoyed not studying for a while."

"A good thing." He quickly corrected her, not knowing when not remembering stupid events was ever a good thing. He did a lot of stupid things when he was drunk, so it was best to not remember them. He was entirely aware that he had pole danced at some point at Matt and Lynne's party thanks to being informed of it (again, and again, and again). Actually, Peter remembered the majority of the birthday party, it had been the Bradley's party that was a total black spot in his memory.

"Better to do would have been being coherent at pureblood parties." He said this with little regard to the fact that she wasn't a pureblood. That shit didn't matter anymore, at least, not like it used to. There were certain families (Malfoys, Warringtons, even the Urquharts at some times) that still cared about all that rubbish, but Peter thought everyone sucked.

"Get expelled then." He said this nonchalantly, starting to head in the direction of the Great Hall again. "You'll have to fuck up really bad though," considering he was still there.

"Yeah... I'm not sure that would be better to do." Some of (most of) the purebloods at the school seemed to have rather... intense families. They'd sort of fallen into the stereotype of 'super intense, super strict' people. So, she simply assumed that pureblood parties were rather boring and not particularly fun. Not that she'd ever been to one, obviously.

"Hmm, yes, that sounds like a BRILLIANT idea, Peter," Amber replied, rolling her eyes but, you know, with a bit of a smile still. "Ensuring that the last six years of my life has been a complete waste is probably the best way to go about things. Rather than just... sticking it out for another year and a half." Admittedly, she rather HOPED that her Hogwarts education wouldn't be necessary in her future career. Because, well, singers didn't need a Hogwarts education to become famous. A nice back up plan, however, made it easier to ignore the tiny little doubts in the back of her mind about how she might not actually become famous one day.

"I'm not even sure what one does to ACTUALLY get expelled here."

Peter didn't think much of her reply, really. It was the typical answer. Everyone was so concerned about their schooling. While he didn't care about his blood status, he knew it would help him along in life. If he didn't want to work? He probably wouldn't have to. His mother would nag him, but he doubted she'd ever let his father give him the boot. Amounting to something wasn't high on Peter's priority list and he knew that it'd eventually be his downfall. Did it change anything he did? No, of course not. He had a year and a half left and then he could worry about what his life was going to become. He had no desire to be restrained by a desk job or family, so it was something he kept at the back of his mind.

"Get caught." He replied, a subtle hint of amusement in his tone, as well as a knowing smile. Peter had done things, bad things, that had he been caught, he would have been expelled. The Vaisey thing? A very good example of that. What he had done earlier in the year to the twins had been another good example, but that was long forgotten. Poison cookies. It had been hilarious.

"Stick to being a good little girl then and do your studies." He glanced over at her and offered a wide smirk then shuffled forward.

"I plan on it." Because, well... Amber was a good little girl who did her studies. While she might have occasionally let an essay go until the last minute, she wasn't exactly the sort to let it happen too often. Amber spent more than enough time on school work, occasionally more time than absolutely necessary. Misbehaving could be fun, on occasion, but it wasn't really that hard to have fun and stick to the rules for her.

"There's nothing wrong with being a good girl," she added, glancing over at him. Keeping pace with Peter was easy, considering he wasn't exactly racing towards the Great Hall. Which... maybe was a bad thing, since she was hungry, but at the same time it was kind of interesting to talk to Peter. She was especially curious how long he could last without turning rather crude.

Peter wasn't even sure why they were having this conversation to begin with. Hadn't she been upset the last time they talked over journals? Sure, he had been vulgar and intentionally upsetting and currently wasn't being so bad, but it was the principle of the matter. Most girls responded to him in person with something like 'ew, Peter! at first sight. That didn't really bother him -- unless he wanted to date him. That was one place his brother was definitely better than him: girls.

"Yeah, if you enjoy getting used by anyone that feels like taking advantage of you. How's it feel to be a doormat for every bloke in life?" She was the kind of girl his brother went after. The sweet, slightly sassy girl that seemed too naive for their own good. They were easy to trick with false feelings and smooth words. While Eddie was a pro at it, Peter never attempted. It just wasn't his thing. It wasn't Gordon's thing either, though neither was girls (in Peter's opinion).

"I'm not sure how being a good girl automatically makes me a doormat," she replied, raising an eyebrow slightly. That was a bit... insulting. Amber did not think that being nice automatically made her a doormat. Though, perhaps the part where she basically instantly forgave just about anything indicated that she might be a bit of one.

"I'm nice, but I don't think being nice makes you a doormat. It just... makes you nice." It bothered her a bit to be called a doormat, as it made it seem as though she was pathetic or something. Which wasn't something she saw herself as. Chewing on her bottom lip a bit, Amber glanced over at Peter. "I don't think I'm a doormat." Yes, yes she was being quite repetitive. That sort of thing happened when she found herself slightly bothered by something.

He hit a nerve. That much was clear by her uncomfortable movements and repeated attempts to imply she wasn't a doormat, which obviously implied she was. "If you weren't, you wouldn't have to try to prove your point by defending it so repetitively." Now he was being a bit mean, but that's just what one could come to expect from him.

"Don't worry, once you lose your virginity to some guy that treats you exactly like a doormat, knocks you up and leaves you with three kids and no life skills, you can complain how you were too nice. That's what they all do." Or, in his experience, that's what all the old housewives bitched about to one another as they sipped their tea from their expensive china in the comfort of their study in their mansions.

"It's a real buy for sympathy." This was said with a shrug.

"Or not," Amber replied, raising her eyebrows at the idea of that. "I've no intention of getting knocked up until I'm completely happy with my life skills. There's no way that I'm going to settle into a family life before I've actually done something with myself." Because... well, there was no way that would be happening to her. She had more important things to do with her life before having kids and, well, she was also trying very hard not to insist that she would be with a bloke who wouldn't treat her like a doormat.

"I'm not going to be some bloody pathetic housewife, Peter." She paused, briefly. "Not that there's anything wrong with being a housewife, exactly, but it's not exactly something that I'm keen on doing." Because, well, she hadn't meant to insult housewives either. Just didn't have much interest in doing that herself. Careers were nice, thanks.

He was pretty sure her excuses and explanations were the same sentiments generations of women past had given and still all ended up in the same spot when they were nice, little doormats. Of course, he didn't think all women would end up that way. There were girls in school that were already refusing to conform to the normal standards that were expected of them, which meant they'd either end up with a very tolerating man, a weak man, or alone and with several cats to call their family. The latter was quite a few girls at school, actually, but Peter wouldn't make a list.

"If you say so," He replied with a smirk, trying to get under her skin now. "Maybe you should be a lesbian so that doesn't happen." While it wasn't ideal, it did have its appeal. Lesbians were cool and all, until you wanted to watch and then they got lame. "Or, you know, stop being a doormat." Yeah, that sounded reasonable too.

"You're right, I'll run right out and find myself a girlfriend, immediately." Amber shook her head slightly at the thought. "I'm sure any girl would be happy to have a girlfriend who needed to be completely drunk to even consider..." Er, no, she didn't think finishing that sentence was the best idea. Mostly because the idea of actually saying the words that had come to mind would be an impossible feat for Amber.

"I think I'll just stick with blokes." The idea of doing anything further than kissing a girl was absolutely off the table. Too gross. She'd never understand the appeal of being intimate with a girl's bits. "What do I do, exactly, that makes you think I'm a doormat?" Being considered a doormat wasn't exactly one of those things that Amber enjoyed. She'd rather most other words, instead, thanks.

"All it takes is getting you drunk, eh?" His brows arched, a rather devious and amused look coming to his face. She really was too easy. Now he was going to be offering to make her a drink all the time. Why people got mad at him when they handed his ammo right to him was beyond him. Of course, most people thought he was serious, which was also their problem.

"Well, for one, you're still having this conversation." It was a good point, and in Peter's mind, was all the point he needed. He could elaborate too, though. "You're also just the type. A nice, quiet, little prude that freaks out at the mere mention of anything inappropriate. And you're a Hufflepuff. I could probably get you to do my homework by just actually being nice." Hufflepuffs seemed like suckers most of the time when it came to Slytherins that pretended to be nice. Actually, that was how most girls were about him. They all wanted him to be "nice".

Hm... yeah. Amber was already regretting her previous comment, since that hadn't been the intention behind it. Rather than respond, she focused on the rest of what he had to say. No need to further discuss things that shouldn't have been said in the first place. The whole doormat issue, however, was certainly holding her interest. Mostly because she refused to believe that she was one, but yes.

"The fact that I'm still having this conversation does not make me a doormat. It just means that I find talking to you interesting enough to keep doing it," Amber replied, not too sure what talking had to do with being a doormat. Choosing to also ignore the bit about freaking out at the mention of anything inappropriate, she decided to address the homework part instead. "Correction, you could get me to help you with homework by actually being nice, you couldn't get me to do it for you."

Peter made a face when she said talking to him was interesting. "Then you like abuse." He replied quickly, a bit of frustration leaking into his tone. What she one of those girls? That was how his "ex-girlfriend" had been earlier in the year, just intrigued by him. He wasn't that interesting, and he certainly shouldn't be causing intrigue in a girl's mind. "Because I'm anything but fucking interesting." So much for general conversation, he was back to being surly and didn't care.

"Shove off." This was said as he drew near the Great Hall doors, briefly giving her a dark look. "I can't be seen walking in with someone like you." This was just said to put the icing on the cake. Soon enough, he was off, heading toward the Slytherin table and away from the Hufflepuff girl.
