Sorta Making Some Amends
Who: Piper and Meredith
Where: Avarice
When: Friday Night, March 25
Piper was keeping true to her word, for the most part at least, in trying to get to know her uncle and cousin a little bit better. While she didn't go all out and pay a visit to her relatives residences, Piper did patronize Avarice a couple times on the off chance she'd run into Meredith again. They say three times the charm, so it was with that thought that Piper stepped through the doors of the club for a third time within a two week time span with hopes of running into her cousin.
Mere had actually been keeping a low profile lately. She hadn't completely felt up to partying a lot with one of her friends hurting so damn bad. Plus, she'd had to spent a lot of nights at Saints & Sinners taking care of the different goings on there. Still, tonight she had off and she couldn't stand the idea of spending it inside of her home, so she went out to Avarice, dressed up in a black mini skirt and a belly baring red top. She walked up to the bar and ordered herself a drink.
Piper approached the bar wearing a striped top and black skirt. The teen propped herself up on one of the stools lining the bar and ordered a soda before a glance was given around as if she were searching for someone. Which Piper was, and her gaze soon settled on Meredith, though the teen choose that moment not to approach her cousin. Unless Meredith suddenly fled the club, there was still time for an encounter with her cousin as the night was still young.
After Mere got her drink and sat down in a stool, she took a few sips of it before noticing Piper. Having since learned from her father who Piper actually was, Mere simply gave her a smile instead of immediately hitting on her.
Sliding demurely off her perch with drink in hand, Piper seized the moment to approach Meredith. The girl had acknowledged her so really there was no point in delaying the inevitable. "Hello, Meredith." Piper greeted with a slim smile when she reached her cousin.
"Hey, Piper," Mere said to her, nodding at her. "How's the night treating you?"
"Not too badly," the teen replied smoothly easing herself onto the stool next to her cousin and setting her glass down on the bar top. "You?" The young girl inquired lightly of the guitarist.
"Things are...well, OK enough for me. A friend of mine's going through a real trial that has me worried for her, though," Mere admitted. "So I'm a bit distracted as of late, I suppose."
"Sorry to hear that," though really not. At present Piper was just putting on appearances of caring. This little meeting, on Piper's part, was mostly for her father's benefit as she had told him she would try getting to know her relatives from his side.
Mere knew that the sincerity wasn't...sincere. Hell, it wasn't like Piper knew Dee or anything. Still, Mere wasn't gonna call her on it. Just not worth the effort. "Thanks," she said simply. "How's your dad?"
"He's doing good." Piper answered with an actual smile when the subject of her father was brought up. "Still overly committed to his work," she shrugged lightly, "but that's the price you pay for being successful at what you do. How's Uncle Jack." The teen inquired after taking a drink of her soda.
Mere could see the obvious difference when Piper talked about her dad. At least they had one thing in common: they both adored their fathers. "Good to hear, and he's good. His band practice is a little on hold right now because the lead singer is in Vegas, so he's spending a lot of time with his girlfriend. Never actually seen him so happy with one woman. Kind of impressive."
"Never seen mine with a woman." Not that Piper had any complaints about that. In fact the teen preferred it that way. That her dad didn't have anyone significant in his life. If he had someone special in his life the woman would cut into what precious little time Piper was actually able to spend with her dad, and that was something the teen definitely would not like. Not in the slightest of ways.
"I'd never seen mine with one for more than a weekend until recently," Mere admitted. "Also kind of weird, actually. Good weird, though. He deserves a little extra happiness." She gave Piper a nod. "Your dad not much of a dater?"
"He's too dedicated to his work for that." Piper found herself admitting to Meredith. She had only intended on being semi cordial to her cousin when she did run into her, but the teen found herself having a passable conversation with the other girl. It had probably been why, deep down, Piper hadn't been wanting to get to know either her cousin or uncle. She had liked Meredith the first time she met her and had only turned on the other girl when she realized just who she was. Getting to know them, and possibly liking them, still felt a little bit like a betrayal to her father.
Mere nodded. "Sounds like he's hardcore into his work and you," she said. From how it sounded, it sounded like her Uncle Jared either worked or hung out with Piper. Not the worst way to spend your time, though. "You think that maybe we should do a family get together soon?" she suggested. "Maybe all get to know each other a little better?" Didn't SOUND like a terrible idea.
While Piper verged on declining that idea right then and there, but something prevented her from voicing that thought. As she thought on it a brief second, it actually didn't sound like all that bad of an idea. And more importantly. it would show her father that she had gone forward with trying to get to know her relations from his side of the family. "Maybe we should."
Mere gave the girl a smile. "Glad to hear it," she said to Piper. "I'm sure that we can do some kind of dinner or something that can match up with everyone's schedules."
"I'm sure we can." Piper replied. Though it might be easier said then actually done due to her father's work schedule. At least the intent was there to try and get both families together.
And intent was definitely important in this kinda kooky family. "Awesome," Mere said to her.
