Some Common Sense
Who: Lunar Mariell, Orderly [NPC] Where: Outside Infirmary, Battlestar Avalon When: Just after Sucker For Punishment!
Stubbornness ran in the family when it came to Lunar so it was hardly surprising that she was refusing to submit to medical authority and was in fact determined to continue her duty even with a broken arm and what must be a few broken rips. Each step was a limp around the bowels of the great Battlestar Avalon, its aches and strains echoed in the creaks as she stumbled along away from the infirmary. She was broken; she was in agony but her fighting spirit and never give-up attitude that served her well through all her years of service forced her to continue on ever more.
Lunar limped on, half huddled from the broken arm and the other from the obvious internal damage sustained at the hands of her attackers back on Sagittaron. That woman, she was freakishly strong, well trained in martial arts and evidently well educated on who she was facing. As one foot moved forward after the other, her eyes half open began to playback that fight, that memory from just a short while ago and she could feel the punches, the toss into her own television and the point where her arm was so effortless broken to labour her fight....all brought back in flashbacks as she walked.
She stumbled along broken, half the woman she wanted to be and needed to be in this crisis because she was a pilot, a damn good one and the place where she wanted and needed to be was out there protecting her home, her people and leading the charge as it were. Instead she was struggling to walk the corridors of this mighty ship and had only made it a few dozen feet from the infirmary since her confrontation with the medical crew there. It was painful to walk, painful to stand as the adrenaline that had kept her going, kept the pain masked all this time from their exodus had worn off and left the wounds bitterly over her body.
Marines were rushing through the ship in small numbers, brushing past her as she limped along until the inevitable happened where her sense of balance went tipsy and her whole equilibrium became lost. She couldn’t catch herself, one broken arm alone prevented such an attempt and so the landing on deck plating caused a curse to leave her lips. Lunar screamed in pain, landing rather harshly from her clumsiness onto the deck where marines were trying to pile through to their stations. Frak!
The marines continued along, too focused on duties and the current deadly situation they were in to take a moment out of their time to help her up and as Lunar managed to turn herself onto her good arm, onto her back a little more, she watched the group of marines file ever forward towards their duty stations and she found a scoff. “Frakking marines, always hated them.” After the marines departed the corridor, she turned her attention back to her own little predicament which was getting to her feet.
Lunar tried to push herself back to her feet using the walls and equipment cases for leverage and her one good arm for directional support but the pain was just too much for her to manage this herself. She still kept trying, exhaling heavily through the barrier of pain but nothing until she felt hands around her waist, pulling her up and helping her balance.
“Now do you believe me Lieutenant? You need to be in the infirmary.” The same orderly from earlier was again in her face, telling her what to do and where to be and she really didn’t like that.
Lunar didn’t like to be fussed over, didn’t like to be told what to do and she especially didn’t like doctors so her immediate reaction was to attempt to brush him off. “I told you once and this is the last time, I’m not going to lie on some gurney and let my home be burnt to the ground.” She turned to leave but immediately stumbled towards another fall, the pain obviously becoming just a little too much for her to even walk with now let alone do anything she was planning on doing like fly a viper.
The orderly caught her stumble and held onto her, “You know, you’re one stubborn woman you know that! The only thing you can do is get some treatment right now otherwise you are just going to take up space out there and cost us a plane. Now, listen to me Lieutenant. The CMO can restrict you to the infirmary meaning you can kiss goodbye to getting out there to fight anytime soon or...you can come with me right now and I can see about getting you back in the fight....back able to fight ASAP. Sound good?” Bargaining was a required trait when it came to dealing with knuckleheads and those experienced pilots that thought they knew better than medically trained professionals.
She groaned, hating being so fragile and weak right now and although she would much rather shove all his tender concern back in his face, Lunar had to admit she wasn’t going to make it anywhere quickly or at all. With a grunt of reluctance, she nodded in the orderly’s direction. “Alright, not got much choice considering you’ve been following me.”
“Glad you see some sense. Come on, I’ll take you back to the infirmary.” The orderly started to turnaround, helping Lunar spin around and slowly supported her along the corridor she had tried to navigate earlier. Infirmary was the only place she was going to get patched up and maybe get into the fight. Lunar didn’t know how badly her arm was broken or how severe her internal injuries were but this was only a temporary concession as she was determined to get out into the fray and fight. Lunar Mariell was down but not out.
