New Direction
WHO: James Chase & Jilleen Simmons
WHERE: Their Townhouse, Caprica City
WHEN: Early Morning, the day after starting liberty.
James Chase watched as the dawn light appeared over Caprica City's skyline from his bedroom balcony of the townhouse that he shared with his wife, Jilleen Simmons. He sat alone at with a tall glass of orange juice on the balcony table as he listened to the chirping birds below in the trees of the city park.
This had been his morning routine when they both lived here full-time a couple of years ago. Back then he was working hard to get back into a Special Operations unit after nearly two years of rehabilitation to fully walk again, while his wife worked at the Colonial Ministry of Defense.
They never sold their townhouse in Athen's Park after they left for their new assignments on Aerilon, because Jilleen could afford to keep more than one home with her trust fund. Also because this home represented the strength of their marriage which had been in danger of dissolving before his ill-fated deployment to Sagittaron. Those had been very difficult years for both of them.
He sat there for a moment thinking back how difficult those years had been for his wife. Firstly she nearly lost him to a IED, and then she dropped everything to be by his side during his recovery, this included leaving a career in air operations. About a year later she lost her closest friend to an accident caused by a drunk driver, and not too long after that she lost her mother.
“ James, what are you thinking about?” He heard her voice behind him, and then felt her hand squeeze his shoulder.
“I was thinking of you actually,” he turned his head to look up at her. She was wearing an ivory silk robe.
“I like that, good answer.” Jilleen lean over and he reached up to meet her soft lips for a kiss. She then sat down in the chair next to him. “I hope it was something nice.”
“I was thinking about when we used to live here. How nice it was to have regular hours, and to see you everyday.” This was true. Their time in Caprica City had taken them out of the routine of constant deployments and other field training exercises, which took those in the military away from normal life styles enjoyed by the civilians they protected.
“Aww, you missed me,” he felt her warm hand on his. “I missed you too. It's not the same any more, not like before.”
“What do you mean?” He looked into her green eyes, curious about her response.
“I've been thinking more and more about life beyond the military. I feel like I've seen and done enough within the Forces.” Her head turned to look at the skyline, toward the city's financial section across the park.
“So have I,” he said.
Jilleen turn back to face him with curiosity. “Really? But you worked so hard to get back into Special Ops. I thought that was your dream?”
“Well I did, it was my goal, but it's like climbing, I've reached that summit. Besides this is likely my last field command, and I can't imagine myself in a staff position, no offense Jill, but I would be bored silly.” He turned his shoulder toward her and readied for her strike.
“You mother frakker, I should …" her glare turned into a smile. "I will resign immediately, then we can sail the seas of Picon.” Jilleen let go of his hand, and then drank from his glass of orange juice while her eyes locked on his gray eyes.
“Yeah right.” He smiled.
“It's not like I am going to disagree. It's not very much fun being a glorified bureaucrat, though I found that being a flag's aide-de-camp is satisfying. Even amusing how a mere Captain as myself can make some higher ranking officers tremble.” He saw her familiar wicked smile, and the confident sparkle in her eyes. Other than her beauty, it was her confident ambition that made her attractive in his eyes when they first met nearly nine years ago.
“And you're willing to give that up to sail the seas of Picon, and to be me'sea mistress.” Part of him did not believe Jilleen would simply give up her career so quickly.
“Aye Captain James,” she saluted from her chair. “By your command.”
He continued to play his part in their improvised role-play. “Then my dear, Jill, give your Cap'n a kiss, and prove your devotion.” He smirked knowing exactly where this would go.
“Only a kiss, is that all, sir?” She let one side of her robe to partly slip down her shoulder to show she wore nothing underneath, and then leaned from her chair with her lips readied for a kiss. He accepted her invitation and kissed his wife for a few passionate moments on the balcony as the sun rose above the skyline.
He held Jill, who now sat on his lap, and looked into her smiling eyes. “You know how to make Aphrodite proud,” he said.
“No I don't, I know how to frakking make her jealous.” She gave him a quick kiss and then got off his lap. She stood beside him and looked down at him while the rest of her robe came undone. He felt her forceful grasp on his hand as she pulled him up from his chair. He offered no resistance and let her lead him back into the bedroom.
