My buddy, Legi, and I have been on a serious Firefly/Serenity hyper kick for over a week now. So we just started RPing a chat and that's turned to four parts of a series so far. The Little Art Theatre in Yellow Springs, OH will host two free screenings of the 2005 adventure film SERENITY to benefit the international human rights organization Equality Now.
Screenings will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 4 p.m. and Monday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. (Doors open 30 minutes before show time.) Although there is no admission charge to the event, donations to Equality Now are strongly encouraged. Donations will be collected at the event, and can also be made online at LittleArt.com beginning Friday, May 9.
Equality Now works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. Issues of concern to Equality Now include rape, domestic violence, reproductive rights, trafficking, female genital mutilation, political participation and gender discrimination.
Beginning in 2006, fans of SERENITY and its writer-director, Joss Whedon, began organizing screenings of the film around the world to raise money and awareness to benefit Equality Now. (Whedon was an Equality Now "Men on the Front Lines" honoree in 2005.) 2008 marks the first time an Ohio theater outside of Cleveland has participated in this worldwide effort.
"The Little Art is extremely proud to host these free screenings, and to offer Yellow Springs, Dayton and our neighboring communities this important opportunity to come together in support of equality and opportunity for women around the world," said Little Art owner Jenny Cowperthwaite.

So, she shot me. Big deal. Been shot before, no doubt be shot again. Probably by Patience. BOO hway-HUN duh PUO-foo. Wouldn't trust her as far as I could spit her. Maybe this ain't such a good idea. Nah, it weren't that bad last time. She winged me is all. One in the arm, and one in the leg. Was the one in the arm that hurt like hell. One in the leg was more of a scrape, a scratch even. Walked away. If a man can walk, he can fly, and that's what's really important. Flying free. So long as we make it out alive, that's all that matters. Getting paid would be nice. Getting paid without getting shot would be better. Still, beggars can't be choosers. Just don't see why everyone is making such a fuss. This is what we do. This is what we always do. |

Summary: Mal has problems. More than usual, even.
Why you should read this fic: It shows a totally different side of Simon that you may find interesting! And a slightly OOC Mal that was done fairly well.
"'Cause you're fucking Jayne." That was a mistake, and you knew that as
soon as the sentence left your mouth. That wasn't a reason. It was an
excuse, but it wasn't a reason.
Deep hazel eyes had crinkled at the edges. Was that a smile? A scowl? You

Why you should read this pic: nubesdelchocolate shows us Jayne's family, don't you want to meet his mom?!! What more could you want?? There is a slightly intimidated River and very curious crew mates. Even though this fic is seperated into 6 chapters, it's a very easy read.

“No, they didn’t,” Mal’s brain was turning, “Zoe, can you handle getting the supplies on your own?”

As a gift to myself for my 21st birthday, and also as homage to Joss Whedon's "Firefly", I had "serenity" tatttoed on my right inner wrist. Please excuse the shiny sheen; the camera flash picked up the anti-septic cream smeared over the tat, lol. I'm really happy with how it turned out... and I'm so glad I had it done on my wrist! It's sort of like a personal affirmation, alongside being the name of my favourite spaceship.
