halfhourmadness
Tears were heavy in her eyes as she emptied drawers, clothes falling methodically into borrowed suitcases that rested on the bed she had shared with Laura for the past year. That day had been the final straw, when her wife had been held captive and there was nothing that she could've done to stop it. She decided in the heat of the moment that she would relocate to the basestar with their children. Alyssa and William weren't safe on that ship, and Billie couldn't fathom keeping them there in harms way. It would be extremely irresponsible on her part and if anything happened to them, she knew she would never be able to forgive herself. As it was, she was already wracked with guilt that Laura had been a target simply for the fact that they were married.

When she had gathered all of Alyssa and William's toys and clothes, Billie zipped up each suitcase and settled on the bed, her eyes concentrated on the floor as she waited for Laura to come home. Their daughter laid curled up next to her, Alyssa's head in her lap as Billie ran her fingers through her soft brunette hair. She knew that it was going to take every bit of willpower that she had to break this to Laura, to tell her that she couldn't stay with her, at least, not there. Not on that ship, when she didn't feel that her children were safe. It broke her heart into pieces, because she loved Laura more than life, but her childrens' safety meant more to her than anything else. Kissing the top of Alyssa's head, Billie sighed as she laid back, her eyes closing until she heard the sound of the President's entourage right outside of the door.

Post... ~THE PLAN [Oct. 19th, 2009|09:18 pm]
halfhourmadness
Shelly had frakked it all up, but it was all right. That model had been weak from the beginning, she'd been able to see right through the facade. But Ana had sat back with brother Cavil, waiting her turn, watching as the other Six thought she could be firm enough to tear down Gaius Baltar and have the rest of the fleet follow with it. It was only natural for her to disappear once the plan backfired, and Ana was left the only competent of her line still standing. It was no surprise when Cavil informed her that the torch would have to be passed. If Shelly couldn't bring this pathetic group of humans to its knees, she would. But she wouldn't have to go through the little waste of flesh Gaius Baltar, no, she was smarter than that. Ana had used her body for far better than to resort to seducing a little piss-ant for what she needed and she would certainly demonstrate that. She would climb ranks and go right to the top. Ana would go to the president, and there, she would have the entire fate of humanity resting in her palm.

It had taken a few days to get her plan into motion. It was what she had expected of course, it wasn't going to be as easy as walking into the CIC of Galactica and crying that someone had committed an act of treason. By then, it was already a common fact that the cylons resembled humans. That made her job harder, but it wasn't anything that would stop Ana in her tracks. In the few late nights she spent lying awake next to brother Cavil, drunk off Ambrosia and missing home, she realized that the only thing she could do to get an upper hand on Roslin was to give her everything she wanted. It would be a fight for dominance, but Ana would go about that quietly, would allow Roslin to believe that she had all the power in the world over her when Ana knew in the back of her mind that it would be easy to kill her and get it over with. The challenge was what excited her.

After three long days of formulating a plan in her head, Ana had managed to sneak off of Galactica on a raptor that would take her to Colonial One. It was almost ridiculous how easy it had been to talk her way into seeing the president. She supposed it did help with the dress that she was wearing; a tight black thing that barely covered her thighs that buttoned from top to bottom. Which meant that she was showing off enough leg to make grown men blush and the first few buttons were undone to expose just the right amount of chest to get her way. As a small precaution, Ana left her dark brown hair the way it was and kept her head down for most of the walk up to Roslin's office. She didn't think it mattered much though, because she had a feeling Laura would know who she was upon one look. In fact, Ana was counting on it. As she took a seat in front of Roslin's desk to wait, she carefully crossed one toned leg over the other and clasped her hands together over her lap, silently observing the contents of what was laying on the desk in front of her while anticipating the president's arrival.

post New Caprica [Jul. 17th, 2009|11:12 am]
chamalla_dreams
There were things that Laura knew she'd never take for granted again after New Caprica. Even though the space was close quarters on Colonial One, she would never complain about lack of privacy again -- at least there were no cylons pushing through the curtains. That rock had been cold and dreary, and though experiencing weather again was nice, she'd had more than enough of the constant rain and gray skies. At least on the ships the temperature was controlled and she could always dress appropriately. And up here there were weapons; more ways to defend oneself. Not that she would be brandishing a gun any time soon, but at least here there were people better apt at protecting her.

And of course, up here in the warmth and security she had one thing that she knew she never wanted to be without again: The feel of Bill's arms closing tightly around her in the middle of the night when she could afford a stay on Galactica. Over night visits were happening more frequently since the exodus, and now she didn't give a frak what people thought about it. She'd thought she would never see him again; she was terrified that they wouldn't actually make it off that rock, and when they did and she and Bill were finally reunited in private, she never wanted to leave again.

Typical though, that she would fall back into the role of President seamlessly and have back to back meetings with the Quorum and the press. That was later though. For now, she was planning on slipping back to sleep with her back firmly pressed against Bill's chest. A hint of light was coming from the head and she used it to glance at the time on his watch. It was still, technically, the middle of the night. She should have been falling back asleep easily, but instead she was wide awake thanks to her frakked up sleep schedule. She didn't want to move though, so her fingers traced barely there figure eights across his forearms as she laid there in the dark, her skin against his and the feel of his breath moving the hair against the back of her neck.

Daphne AU continued [Mar. 26th, 2009|09:06 am]
chamalla_dreams
There wasn't much that surprised Laura anymore. She wasn't surprised when her daughter pushed her out of her life. After all, she'd been a great daughter and Laura; well she'd been a shitty mother. She wasn't surprised when Adar finally used her to try and get what he wanted from the teacher's union. And she wasn't surprised when she found a lump in her left breast while taking a shower. Breast cancer had killed her mother but Laura never thought she'd find the lump too late. When the doctors needed to do more tests, then called her at home for an appointment rather than send her a letter, she got nervous.

She put it off, not wanting to believe that this could really be happening but in some strange way, she felt like she deserved it. This was one thing she wouldn't let Daphne find out through a third party, so using her status as a member of the presidential cabinet (at least for now), she got through to Admiral Nagala and was actually allowed to speak with her daughter. She had no idea if Daphne would even come, but Laura had to try. She was sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office waiting on Daphne before she would go talk to her doctor. She decided she'd wait another thirty minutes before she gave up, but she didn't want to give up. She wanted to believe that her daughter didn't completely loathe her.

After just a couple more weeks of academy, Daphne was finally graduating from flight school. It was known that she was graduating as one of the best and it was rumored that everyone from the top of the military command to the new nuggets would be coming out to watch the graduation. So as she got dressed in her flight uniform for the ceremony, she hoped that maybe; maybe her mother would show up. There was absolutely no way she couldn't know about it as the ceremony announcement had been in the paper. Her name was there along with everyone elses, so she knew that there was no way Laura couldn't know. The thought that she might be there to tell her she was proud and that she was sorry; the idea that they'd reconnect was something she thought about all the time, so she couldn't help it when she let herself get hopeful.

During the ceremony she looked around for her mom, trying to find her in the crowd but she couldn't see her. She was pretty far away though, so she just figured they were missing each other. When she stood to accept her wings and saluted Adama, she was grinning from ear to ear, and reached to shake his hand. She couldn't believe that she'd finally done it; that she had this major accomplishment under her belt. As soon as the ceremony was over, she scanned the crowd her her mom, but then people began to thin out. Still she waited, sitting down on one of the chairs, looking over the pin she'd taken off her collar so that she could admire it. Looking at the certificate that Adama had signed and reading it over and over again. Finally, it was almost dark and everyone was mostly gone. And still she sat, this time so mad at herself for getting her hopes up that she didn't think she could face getting up and going to any of the parties.

Au - Daphne Roslin [Mar. 23rd, 2009|07:14 pm]
chamalla_dreams
Daphne Roslin decided on the day that she turned fifteen that she was not taking anymore of her mother's unnecessary bullshit. Since she'd been eight years old she'd lived with broken promises and failed attempts to actually be interested in what was going on in her life with school and extra-curricular activities and it never worked. Most of the time Daphne was left alone by herself, and at the age of ten, her mother had no idea that she'd tricked the baby sitter into thinking her mother had fired her. And Laura never noticed, so Daphne did everything herself: food, laundry, getting where she needed to go. So when she turned fifteen and could legally make a break for it, she did. There was no point in sticking around if she had no one to stick around for. There was a short note: 'I was just taking up space; good luck with your career!' and with that she was gone. She didn't know where she was going to go, but she would figure it out later.

A part of her tried to justify what her mother was doing and why. The guy who'd knocked her up was a dick and Daphne had only needed to talk to him once when she was thirteen to realize that. Her mother was lucky to get a child support check from him so she knew why her mom worked so hard. But she was fine as a teacher. It was when she decided she wanted to go into frakking politics that everything changed. She'd only tried to find her biological dad in the hopes that he would be cool and let her live with him but he told her straight up that he didn't care about her. So that was a dead end. And then her mom had started frakking Adar and lying about it, but she stayed gone sometimes over night, sometimes she come home at ungodly hours. Daphne could smell bullshit and she called it on Laura which was why she left when she did. It was only going to get worse and her mom seemed so damn clueless that it would be better to just be on her own anyway.

She managed to score a place to stay with a friend for a few months until she'd been walking around downtown Caprica City and seen a recruitment poster for joining the military fleet. That thought seemed appealing to her but she sat on it for a couple of months until she'd run out of money. It was either do this or go home, and she could not imagine going back home where her mother would be condescending and still not be around. Just thinking about the prospect made her even more sure that this was the path for her, so she went to the next recruitment event with no real idea of what position she'd want in the fleet. When she saw the videos for Viper pilot though, that...that had sealed the deal. She filled out her information and headed to that part of the building. It was there that she waited for whoever it was would interview her and decide whether or not she'd be a good candidate. There were whispers that it would be a commander named Caine and that she was the toughest recruiter there was, so Daphne was ready for it, waiting to defend her decision to join the fleet.

She'd planned on leaving Adama's quarters when she'd agreed to their arrangement and to keeping his secret. Instead, she stood outside of his door, the security detail confused as they waited on her to make a move. Laura wasn't sure what else there was after this but something felt missing. She needed something else from the Commander; something better than his word. She had no reason to trust him and vice versa, so there had to be a reason for them to keep their best interests in mind.

"Open the hatch," she nodded and it was done. Her men moved to follow her and she gave them a smile but held them off, shutting the hatch behind her. "Commander Adama. "I'm sorry, I'd like to have another word with you. I'd like to see about drawing up a contract between us. An agreement on paper signed by the two of us to back up our verbal exchange. I'm new at this, so rather than there be any confusion on my part, I think it could save you some future headaches," she said with a smile.

"NO PEEKING!" came a little giggle from somewhere as small footsteps padded through the house. "Daddy you don't do no peeking. I'll tell mama." Rebekah ran to the closet to hide, pushing herself under one of his jackets. She liked it when Laura went to the grocery store, it meant that her and Daddy could run in the house.

Rebekah was four now, with red curls and freckles; the spitting image of Laura. But there were Bill's sparkling blue eyes as she tried to keep from giggling again.

She couldn't comprehend what was happening. There were still...so many things; the baby shower gifts, the empty bottle of champagne. Baby toys and blankets and there wasn't a way that her sisters could be dead because they'd just been in her living room twelve hours ago. And her father; no. No, he was finally living his life after losing his wife; her mother just died. The house suddenly felt so over-bearingly claustrophobic that she couldn't stay there. She could still hear the hollow words of the police officer.

There's been an accident.

Pushing herself up, she walked right out of her house and left the door open. She had no regard for locking her home or the safety of her things. She didn't even care that she was in her pajamas. She had no idea where she was going until suddenly she was at the fountain and she was walking into the water. The water was shockingly cold but she didn't stop until she was the rock so that she could lean back and just let the water rain down on her. Her sobs started then and even though she was well above water, she felt like she was drowning. Her hair was clinging to her and her nightgown stuck to her skin but she stayed in the water and cried as she shook with cold.

Surprise! [Feb. 14th, 2009|08:45 am]
chamalla_dreams
Laura was still sitting in Colonial One, looking at all of the dried blood on the walls. She might have hated the Quorum, but not enough to wish them shot down like rabid dogs. They were executed plain and simple, and before Zarek's death sentence, he admitted that it was because those same people she loathed stood up for her. They'd still believed in her as President and Zarek couldn't stand that. Closing her eyes, she whispered a soft prayer for them all, collecting the rest of the pictures before making her way back to her quarters with Bill.

The smell of the booze hit her first and she frowned, standing just inside of the hatch and running a hand down her face. So it seemed it was going to be another night of alcohol. Taking off her shoes, she decided to try understanding why he was so frakking upset first, and she made her way to his desk, standing behind him and rubbing his shoulders. She didn't say anything for a long moment, but he was tense she could tell. Her delicate fingers worked through the fabric of his jacket, her thumbs working out the knots. Bending, she kissed the top of his head and murmured against his hair. "Bad day?"

Blood on the Scales [Feb. 6th, 2009|10:01 pm]

When she'd thought that he was dead, her entire world fell down around her. Everything that she'd been fighting for, the hope that he'd given her and the strength he'd shown were gone. But she would not stop. This would not make her back down and if they thought it would they were devastatingly wrong. She would kill every single one of them on that damn battlestar if she had to. And then she would take over, doing what she had to do to make sure Bill's strength was not lost on her. She just had no idea how long she could do it.

So when Bill's voice came across the basestar's comm system, she covered her face and took just a moment before ordering the Raptor to fly her back to Galactica. As she made the march slowly down the battlestar's corridors, she could feel him getting closer. She didn't know how to explain it, but she felt like she was being pulled to him like a magnet. Climbing down the ladder, she hesitated before turning because though she hadn't seen him, she knew he was there. When she finally got the message to her legs to move, she couldn't help but cry because he was alive, and there he was. He was hugging her and kissing her and he was alive. She knew that he had to be; it could never be any other way. He couldn't go without her, and vice versa.

They didn't get long to stay reunited. He took her to his quarters and had to go again, and when she was faced with the emptiness of his quarters again, she looked around and saw signs of the coup everywhere. Frowning in disgust, she started cleaning furiously, scrubbing and organizing, fixing the bed and papers that had been shuffled around. She even sprayed some of the last of her perfume in the air to get rid of the smell of Zarek and Gaeta and their experiment.

She guessed that neither of them had taken any notes when she'd made her coup. Never let a kid and a man do a woman's job. Frakking amateurs.

Nearly exhausted when she was done cleaning, she sat down on the couch, laying back with a soft sigh.

Frakking zombies. They were able to look past the fact that Earth was nothing but a worthless deserted wasteland out in the middle of the galaxy. The place that they'd been trying to find for years. So many people had died along the way, and for what? All for them to find a planet that probably hadn't been inhabited for years. But really, that wasn't even the worst of it. The planet was taken over by frakking zombies. Bill would've liked to shit his pants upon finding this out.

There had been a decision among a slim few humans, banded with the cylons mostly, to either run or stay on Galactica and face the harsh realities that they were being overrun by a few punks who only wanted to see the walls splattered with their blood. After four years at serving at the helm, it hadn't been easy, but the first time Bill had a gun pointed to his face was the last time he had a gun pointed to his face. At that point, it was all over for him, and Bill didn't frakking care who he had to take down in the process. He refused to die on that ship, and he refused to let anyone else do so either. Cylon or not.

They'd gotten back to Earth by means of the Cylon Basestar, the few of them. They'd gathered up all the supplies they needed; food and water, guns and ammo, and everything little in between and set out to find a piece of the planet that could be inhabited by life. Which meant they had to search for days, flying Raptors and Heavy Raiders over the planet in a more thorough search than they'd done before. There was been no turning back after that. It took days, but the feeling of satisfaction came when they found a place that hadn't been completely destroyed by nuclear war.

It was an abandoned city of sorts, with buildings still standing tall under the weight of thousands of years of pressure. It was peaceful there and settling had been easy. They could almost forget that this was Earth. He and Laura had moved into one of those abandoned buildings after raiding it for supplies. It wasn't much, just a small apartment on the ground floor which quickly became home. There was a kitchen, a bathroom, a mattress on the floor and a couch in the corner of the room upon entering. It wasn't much, but it sure as hell beat being, well, dead.

The peaceful facade had been broken a few days later, when, like they were almost cursed, their city had been over run in the night by zombies. The people that they'd brought there could only stare out of their windows in horror, wide eyed as they watched these things raid their streets in the middle of the night. They could only hope that they would soon be gone. That hope was ultimately destroyed when after a few days, they'd discovered signs of life. Watching countless skinjobs being dragged into the streets and ripped to shreds had hardened all of them into the realization that it was never going to not be a struggle to survive.

Bill sat with Laura now in front of their little home. It was still early enough in the afternoon to be able to sit out in the open and enjoy the only slightly tainted air and the sun that seemed to burn down on them that day. It felt like the summers back on Caprica before the genocide, when the weather was perfect and the days never seemed to end. Bill had quickly decided that instead of running from those frakking undead monsters, he was going to stay put, because he refused to give up this sliver of happiness for anything. Mostly everyone else had agreed, too, so there wasn't a lot of convincing he'd had to do. They were all tired of running.

Bill's face was a mask of concentration, his hands busy with cleaning the pistol that he kept on him at all times. Hanging out of his mouth was a cigarette from a previously unopened pack he'd found inside their little apartment. He'd ripped the filter off and lit it, enjoying for the first time in a long time the feeling of smoke in his lungs. Assembling his gun back together, he took a glance sideways to Laura who was doing much of the same thing. Putting the safety back on his weapon, he placed it in it's holster, then reached sideways to, mostly, annoy her. "You're doing it wrong."

She stayed. Laura frakking stayed, and that was all Bill could really think about. He'd been awake for almost an hour, just lying there, watching her, learning her, burning the image of her into his head. Somehow during the night, they'd shifted from being curled up on their sides to Bill lying back with Laura draped haphazardly across much of his body. He was aware that he should've been up and moving around already, but the the thought of giving this up, of not getting to hold her like this for one minute, it kept him there.

He didn't really have a problem with that, either.

Bill hated even the thought of waking Laura up, of having to break this small slice of perfectness that they'd created about themselves. He knew the only time she was completely peaceful was when she was asleep; her body void of aches and pains from the cancer that made her slip away from her a bit more every day. Sometimes he wondered, mostly worried, about the one day when she wouldn't wake up. That scared him shitless, but for just then, that was far from his mind. No, he only cared about how perfect everything seemed just then. In that moment, there was no cancer. Right then, there was no fleet that was falling apart. In those places was just happiness. Love. He loved her so damn much.

Trailing his fingertips over her jaw, exploring, he tilted her chin, not enough to force her into being awake, but just enough so that he could press a tender and lingering kiss to her soft lips.

and now, an epic AU [Jan. 25th, 2009|01:28 pm]
chamalla_dreams
Laura Roslin was walking home from a late class. It was the only night of the week that she had to walk across campus in the dark, and despite what all of her friends advised her to do, she always walked alone. She enjoyed the quiet time to think; it was also one of the only nights she wasn't working. She never thought that she would be working and going to school full time, but after her parents and sisters died, there was no money left for her to have any other choice. There had been life insurance money, but after all the bills were paid and school tuition was said and done, there just wasn't enough left for her to live a cushy life.

Minding her own business, she didn't even realize it when her ex boyfriend ran right into her. They traded a few words (his being 'whore' and hers being 'bastard') before he shoved her and she shoved him right back, not taking his bullshit for one second. But, the fact of the matter was that she was alone, he was bigger than her, and it was dark outside.

The fleet was falling apart piece by piece as each moment passed, but his thoughts were far from there anymore. Bill had fallen into Laura's trap of forgetting about the sanity of every other frakking person, and the most liberating thing was getting to hold her in his arms even for just a little while.

A crooked smile on his face couldn't be replaced with anything else. For once, he wasn't a million miles off. And neither was she. That hadn't happened in a long time.

After pressing a lingering kiss to Laura's shoulder blade, Bill dropped his head back onto the pillow, drawing his arm just a little tighter around her waist. "Mm. Missed you."

The silence in the cabin was deafening to Billie's ears. She'd been holding her breath -- metaphorically speaking -- since they'd stumbled upon the planet that had quickly been called Earth. She was alone in their quarters with both of the babies, impatiently waiting Laura's return from the planet to deliver the good news; if they had a new home or if it was going to still be a distant dream.

Weeks before they'd found the planet, Billie had given birth to hers, and Laura's, second child. A little brother to Alyssa to which she'd been so proud of, that the only name she could think to give the baby was William Joseph, inspired by that of Admiral Adama himself. She ignored all of Laura's protests about the name, reminding her quickly that she wouldn't have their only son named after anyone else.

The days following had been completely blissful for the both of them. She and Laura had been able spend more time together, following Lee's take over of certain Presidential duties. There had been slight disdain, even Billie had known that, but she'd promptly reminded Laura that Lee taking over had been a part of their plan after all. It had been an excuse to get Laura out of the office and to make their family the most important thing.

Billie sat on the bed in the middle of their cabin after putting the infant in his crib to sleep. Alyssa was up and about, however, wandering around, babbling to herself as she got into whatever she could keep herself occupied with. She gave a half-hearted attempt at paying attention to her daughter, each time she toddled over to the bed to show her something new that had caught her attention. In any other situation, it would've been completely adorable, but Billie was so nervous that she couldn't even concentrate. The fingernails on her left hand had already been chewed off as evidence to her anxiousness, and she was currently working on the thumbnail of her right hand as she waited.

Mary wasn't really sure what to do with all of the time she had off now that the show wasn't airing anymore. What the cast and crew didn't know; what Eddie hadn't even known, was that she was going through a divorce. She hadn't wanted to interfere with everyone's sadness over the show ending, and she didn't want any sympathy at all. She she'd dealt with it all on her own. There were so many nights when she'd wanted to call the only friend she knew she could have trusted; Eddie, but she knew that not everything was perfect for him either, so she'd bit her tongue.

When it was all said and done though, she couldn't stay where she was. She'd sold her house, her kids were in school, and she had absolutely nothing tying her down. So, on a whim, she'd booked a one way ticket to Mexico. She was only thinking beaches and drinks and a little house that looked out to the ocean. It was all she cared about. So, after packing everything that she thought she would need, she left her house in L.A.

Once she was in Mexico, she almost instantly relaxed. For a week or so she kept to herself before finally deciding to go out to eat rather than sit at home, cooped up. She picked a restaurant apparently famed for their margaritas and ordered one right off the bat, relaxing in one of the chairs as she sipped on her drink.

She couldn't do this.

There wasn't a reason to keep living. There wasn't a reason to try and beat her cancer. There wasn't a reason to care. There wasn't a reason to love or feel love or know love. It was just an allusion. The dreams of Earth and the scriptures, the Opera House, the urge to survive. It was nothing.

It meant nothing.

She could hear Bill over the speakers and she laid, curled up on the floor, tears falling down her cheeks slowly as she laid motionless. She didn't want to get up, she just clutched the only piece of green she'd seen on that frakking planet and laid there.

There wasn't a reason to get up.
