Who: Felix & Jasper Hale
When: 8th December, 2008: Nighttime (Forwarddated)
Where: Forks, Washington: Volturi Guard House → Cullen House
What: Felix prepares to go meet the Cullens. Instead, he runs into Jasper.
Rating: PG-13

Standing in the middle of the room that he had claimed as his own when he had finally arrived in Forks, Felix was looking between the miniature armory that was his closet and the new suit that was handing off his floor length mirror. He knew there was no choice to make between the two items, but he longed for the option that he couldn't quite have yet. The first option, and the only viable one at the moment, involved him going to the Cullens' house and making pleasantries with the vegetarians. The thought wasn't unappealing, especially since it meant that he would see Bella again and get too bait Edward discreetly, but it paled in comparison to the other option:

Capture the werewolves.

Yes, they needed a reason, but their reason to finally take action against the wolves was fast approaching. As soon as the 12th arrived, the werewolves would turn into the monsters that they really were and Felix planned on making sure that an innocent human crossed paths with one of them. One dead human was all that it would take to have as reason to attack.

They would have to wait until the 12th of course, which only left him with going to meet the Cullens. Sighing as he closed the closet door, he tugged off his shirt and walked to where his suit was hanging.

A few minutes later found him leaving the house alone and walking in the direction of the Cullen house instead of going by car.

[Jasper!]

Jasper was out. He'd left the home for several reasons, one being in the hopes that he'd pick up the scent of one of the Volturi but also to put some distance between himself and the family. Not only did he want to give the rest of them the impression that he was going off on his own more often now, but it was also for the legit reason that he needed a little relief from the overload of stress everyone was dealing with in the house. He could still feel it even as he put a couple of miles distance between himself and the house, but the edge had been taken off for the most part.

He actually hadn't intended to try to work his way towards gaining the Volturi's trust that night. He just wanted to scope things out, possibly get a feel for what they were up to. Because of that, Alice would not have seen him running into Felix until it happened, and even then it probably would have been sketchy. Having Nessie around would've thrown her off, certainly. So it was a bit of a surprise when Jasper picked up Felix's scent, which had taken a stronger hold in his memory after their last encounter.

Jasper could see him; they were walking towards one another. Was he going to the house? Maybe this was his chance to flourish their .. relationship? That seemed like too strong of a word at this point. But now seemed as good of a time as any to implant thoughts in the Volturi guard's head and with the use of his power, he felt certain he could leave a lasting impression.

He started to close the distance between the two of them a little more, but did not increase his speed any. Jasper did not want to give off a defensive vibe, or any, particularly. He also wanted to be careful about the use of his power; Jasper did not know the extent of the knowledge the Volturi had of his abilities. They'd shown interest in Alice, Edward, and Bella, but not so much him. Whether it was a lack of interest or a lack of knowledge remained to be seen.

He stopped when he was within earshot. "Hunting wolves?" He asked, hands in his pockets as he eyed the other man.

The closer Felix got to the Cullen house, the stronger the dog smell seemed to get, in addition to the smell of vegetarian vampires. It made him wrinkle his nose, but he relaxed his face when he realized that the scent of vegetarians he was smelling seemed to be getting stronger and fresher.

He smirked once he saw the familiar form of Jasper come into view. It wasn't that Jasper wasn't an interesting vampire to the Volturi, but he had a history of betraying the vampires that he worked with. Sure, they could have Chelsea bind him to their Guard, but it would be a dangerous and tricky game of emotional manipulation and ties. So they left him alone, at least until they got his little mate Alice. It would be much easier to get him to cooperate if they had Alice on their side.

"I was actually taking up your invitation to drop on by," Felix said, hands hanging loosely at his sides as he eyed Jasper. "Going out for a little snack?

This conversation would be pivotal for their plans. If Jasper could at least give off the impression that he was thinking of leaving his family, he thought the Volturi might have an interest in him, even if it only was to obtain Alice for their own. He would never let that happen, but it gain him the ground he needed to get in close enough to learn what they were doing, how they were doing it, and what they needed to do to stop them.

Jasper gave off a calm vibe; it was nothing too noticeable, just enough to settle the mood a little. "Actually, I was going out for some fresh air," he said, shrugging lightly. "I can only stand the stench for so long. I'm sure you understand." He gave a small smirk. "I've never been much of a dog person."

"Then why bother with the dogs?" Felix asked, unconsciously relaxing his stance as Jasper worked on his emotions. "I understand with keeping the peace, but it would be easier to get rid of them." As entertaining as Felix was sure the mutts were, the smell made it not worth it.

Shaking his head with a laugh, he held up a hand. "Pardon me. I forget who I'm talking to. You better get used to the smell, what, since one of the mutts is a member of your family now." With a slight snort, he wondered aloud, "It's a wonder you can even stand that."

"It wasn't my idea to bother with them," he replied with a simple cock of the head. Jasper knew to tread carefully. If he all of the sudden started ranting about his distaste for the Cullens and their practices, he would be obvious what he was trying to do. He knew Felix wasn't an idiot. He would have to be subtle about it, for now.

"I would use the term family loosely, in my case," he commented, frowning just a bit. "Though my wife supports the unity, so I tolerate it. Doesn't mean I want them around. But then, I suppose I've always been the rebel of the 'family,' so to speak." He paused in his speech, not wanting to talk too much on the subject right off. He thought he'd let Felix react to his admission first.

"Colour me surprised," Felix said, leaning slightly back. "Do I sense a little dissatisfaction with Carlisle's allowance of a mutt into the family?" Jasper hadn't really struck Felix as a family man, at least, not the Jasper he had read about in past reports and past meetings.

So Felix wasn't too surprised to hear this kind of talk from him. He was, however, a little surprised to be hearing it at all and so freely from Jasper. It made him suspicious, but he said nothing of that as he cocked an eyebrow at Jasper. "Why is it that you're telling me this?" Felix was a straightforward kind of vampire, so he didn't bother playing around once his suspicions were raised.

"Because you asked," he replied calmly. Felix didn't have to say anything, Jasper could feel his suspicion. It would've been easy for him to melt the suspicion away, but he wasn't going to do that. The complete absence of suspicion would've been suspicious in of itself. A lot of what the Volturi acted on was suspicion.

"Carlisle can do what he wishes, and often does," Jasper said. "That doesn't mean we all like it. As for the dog imprinting on Edward's daughter, well, that's just sickening. But, my opinion is not typically asked for."

"But you answered. With that interesting reveal," Felix pointed out, tilted to the side. "Why share with me?" The enemy was implied, but not spoken.

Imprinting was a new word for Felix. The masters, Aro especially, probably knew about it when he touched the child two years ago, but Felix hadn't heard that word before in this context. But he had been told that one of the mutts was bonded to the child, hence the family comment. It sickened him to his stomach that any sane vampire would allow it to happen.

Jasper shrugged again. "Aren't we supposed to be able to trust you?" He asked, his gaze unwavering. "The Volturi are supposed to have our best interests at heart, are they not? I'm merely expressing a personal conflict of interest."

He didn't speak often, and was typically to the point whenever he did. Jasper was, however, very charismatic when he wanted to be even without the use of his power. That said, he did not wish to engage in a war of words with Felix during this encounter. It was more to be a silent plea for refuge; an insight into the "true" picture beyond the bubble of perfection often surrounding the Cullen coven.

"You're suppose to, yes," Felix said, with a slight nod but left it at that. It was too obvious to point out that they hadn't exactly left everything on the best of terms the last time that the Volturi and the Cullens had met up and that the Cullens had no reason to trust them with this kind of information.

Spreading his arms outward, Felix offered, "Should your family's closeness to the mutts get to be too much, your lovely little wife and yourself are free to join us for a well deserved break." It wasn't a job offer, but an invitation, much like the one offered to Carlisle years ago.

He did not expect to gain his trust completely. It was probably more believable not to. His intention was to plant a seed of doubt, and he'd done that. The offering Felix made in return was something Jasper had to be very careful about reacting to. Seeming too eager would be obvious. Brushing it off would uproot the seed before it was ready to blossom.

"I appreciate your acknowledgment that my wife and I are a package deal," he said. "That being said, she does not share the contempt I do for the situation." Jasper forced a frown, a display of his displeasure with that though. "However, that is a generous invitation of you. If the stench gets any stronger..." he met eyes again with the other man and held his gaze. "...a break may be essential."

"The offer is always open," Felix offered as graciously as his character would allow, tilting his head in acknowledgment and stepping back. "I must get going. All dressed up to go and all," Felix said, adjusting his tie with a grin.

"I'll let the rest of the Guard know that you're always welcomed to our house," Felix added, as he walked past Jasper and continued in the direction of the Cullen home. "Maybe we can discuss the mutts in more detail over a cup of blood," he laughed.
