RP: Hannah and Eileen
Who: Hannah Longbottom, Eileen Prince, Nigel Davenport (NPC)
Where: Leaky Cauldron
When: February 9, 2025, afternoon
Rating/Warnings: None
Summary: Hannah is trying not to panic

Breath in and out. In and Out. Opening her eyes, Hannah stepped, make that waddled, out of the kitchen and into the main area of the pub. She was worried about Neville, which of course made her worry about little Sam growing inside of her. Yesterday she named Nigel as the manager and he came in that morning, so Hannah could going over things with him.

Ever since the news of Harry's attack arrived, she had been acting like a nervous wreck. She slept badly last night and Hannah planned to take the afternoon off just to lie on the couch. The healer's word about keeping stress down echoed in her head as she thought about Harry being attacked by his own daughter. Merlin! How did this happen

Forcing a smile on her face, she brought out a plate of food for one of her regulars. "Hannah, do we have a menu for Sunday?" Nigel asked as he looked over from the booth she used for paperwork.

"Sunday?" she asked, her mind still thinking about Harry. Neville is fine; Harry will be fine. she reminded herself. In and out, Hannah. Remain calm.

"Valentine's Day?" her manager reminded her.

"Oh. Make sure we have champagne and strawberries," she replied, waddling over to him. "Oh and Ben is performing that night, so he switched with Edward. You'll have to remind Edward of the change; he forgets sometimes."

"Hannah, you alright?" he asked, watching his employer rub her belly constantly. "Baby bothering you?"

"No, Samuel is fine." Hannah said. It's his godfather I'm worried about

Rooms at the Leaky Cauldron were currently not in Eileen's budget (not that they'd've met her demands anyway), but the place itself was a good source of information, especially when the pub-goers were drunk enough. Eileen spent her afternoons and evenings there, catching up on the three-fourths of a century's worth of gossip.

Usually, she was quiet, sitting in the shadowed corner and observing the room. Not much slipped past her ears.

The owner's name was Hannah... Eileen curled her lip. Hufflepuff manners. Perpetually harried house-elf stare. Pregnant. In the kitchen. But not barefoot, like her elves.

Small mercies... or possibly small ironies, they make the world go around.

At the mention of 'Samuel' and 'the baby' Eileen's stare drifted to look for a crib, but then she realised that the conversation still remained on the fetus. Eileen rolled her eyes. She named the crotch dropping before it even dropped. All she needs now is to name her tits after her house elves to round off the insanity.

Still, she might be useful for... something.

Eileen spun a gobstone on the table and trapped it under the empty water glass. She considered ordering something sufficiently strong to help her deal with the situation, but then the corner of her mouth curved up. Milk... Milk and tea.

Putting a tolerant smile on her face, she called the witless cow over to place her order.

"Nigel, cow's liver is not romantic," she told her newly named manager. "Think, quail with roasted baby asparagus and garlic potatoes. Let's go with that."

Hannah heard a patron call her. "Think of a few menus while I go take care of this customer." She patted Nigel's hand before crossing over to the corner.

"Hello," she said. The woman had been coming in nightly, but Hannah had yet to ask her her name. "What can I get you?"

"On the contrary, calf's liver is a better aphrodisiac than quail, unless the quails are still in their egg shells," Eileen murmured under her nose, mostly to herself.

She clawed her hair back and glanced up at the owner. "Milk. And more tea, actually, but I am perfectly capable of summoning both myself from your kitchen."

She spared a quick but thorough glance at Hannah's belly and then at the empty bench across the table. "Do sit down. You seem exhausted." She nodded at 'Samuel' portion of Hannah with a sly smirk. "Cervix kicks?"

"Of course," she said. "It won't be necessary to summon your own." As she was about to summon the milk and tea herself, Hannah's eyes widen in surprise by the offer to join her.

"It's been a long day," she confessed as she summoned the drinks along with water for herself. A tray with a pot of tea, a creamer bowl and a glass of water floated through the pub toward them. Plucking the tray from the air, she refilled the woman's cup before placing the rest of the glasses on the table. Hannah slowly slid into the empty seat.

"Excuse me? Cervix kicks?" she asked, a little confused. "Oh! Sometimes. More when I have the wireless on. Do you have children?"

Eileen smirked into her refilled cup. "If 'Samuel' is ever compelled to kick you in the cervix for subjecting him to the Wireless' selection of songs, you would definitely know what they are. Unless he misses and hits the bladder instead. Neither outcome is... pleasant."

"I suppose I could say, I have one... offspring," she mused. "You might have heard of him. He's the Headmaster of Hogwarts."

The way the woman said her child's name caused Hannah to place a hand over her swollen belly. "Well, it doesn't happen often, but you are right. It isn't very pleasant."

Offspring? What kind of mother would say offspring? she wondered until the woman made the announcement. Hannah thanked Merlin she wasn't taking a sip of water otherwise it would have been all over the witch sitting across from her.

"You're Snape's mother?"

"I'm Eileen Prince," Eileen stated, neither confirming, nor denying the question.

She rolled the empty gobstone around her index finger and then let it spin on the table before capturing it in her grasp once more.

"And you are... Hannah." Once again, she stated, just as if Hannah's name was her own. What followed afterwards was a quick nod. "Pleasure."

She was too stunned to take notice that Snape's mother went by her maiden name or the fact that she knew Hannah's name. Instead, she continued to stare at the witch across from it, snapping out of it only when she captured the stone on the table.

"Yes, pleasure."

Eileen held Hannah's gaze as her nimble fingers refilled the empty gobstone from the creamer bowl and rubbed it to seal the contents.

"Is there something on my face?" she asked.

"Or perhaps there's something about Severus Snape that I should be aware of."

"I'm sorry," she said, shaking away her shock. "I'm still getting use to this whole returning from the dead thing." Plus, I'm sitting at a table with the Headmaster's mother. Wait, til Neville hears about this.

"No! Of course not. Professor Snape was...a very dedicated teacher." Hannah didn't want to say anything bad about Snape since Neville had to work with him. "Are you...staying with him at Hogwarts?"

"Understandable," Eileen murmured. "So am I." Though I don't recall being dead. I suppose it's one of the conditions of being brought back, in which case... She performed a quick calculation in her head... How odd. The Spawn didn't live nearly as long as one might expect. I should really question him about that.

"And so I hear." Eileen shook her head. "No. I found a... temporary arrangement. It suits my needs better." It wasn't really the school itself that made Eileen twitch, but the idea of all those semi-unattended children in close proximity.

She merely nodded before taking a few sips of water. "Oh," she said when Eileen mentioned having other lodging. Since the witch had been coming in daily, Hannah could only concluded that she was staying nearby. "I take it isn't far?"

Watching the woman across from her, she didn't know exactly what to say next. "Are you-have you found a job?" she asked.

Eileen nodded. "Not far at all. Just around the corner." Of Knockturn Alley.

"Oh, I'm still looking for things to do." She cast the stare of not-quite-concealed curiosity at the witch. "Do you have any suggestions?"

"Well," Hannah began. Yes, normally she would have be happy to help someone out, particularly younger witches and wizards, but she didn't think Eileen would have fit well at the pub. Probably scare all my customers away...

"What are your strengths? What kind of work have you done in the past?"

"I'm a brewer," Eileen stated. "Alcoholic substances, among others..." She left that sentence unfinished, a way of trimming the irrelevant information off her long and eventful CV.

No, she needs no hints of poisons, or darker dealings. Not this one. She'd probably go paler than her milk at the mention of a single aphrodisiac or a love potion.

"I know my drinks and mix them well. I haggle. I can clear a pub full of drunks in an instant if needed, even if they're unconscious, and," she spun a gobstone on her finger and let it squirt a dash of milk into her cup, "I entertain."

She leaned forward over her cup, meeting Hannah's eyes, as she continued, softer, more urgent. "Truth is, I'm with child, and I am in need of a reliable place... and a reliable person." She placed her hand over the shawl wrapped around her belly. "That place is not Hogwarts, and that person is not my son." Not yet, anyway. He knows far too much about me and I hardly know him.

She leaned back, and her gaze went sombre. Serious. "I'm a hard worker, and I will offer reliability in return."

Hannah's eyes widen in surprised. A brewer of alcoholic substances? Would be nice if the Leaky had it's own ale to serve... she thought the business side of her brain kicking in before another voice shouted THIS IS SNAPE'S MOTHER! DO NOT LET HER BREW YOU ANYTHING!

As Eileen spoke of her skills, Hannah began to think of any other pubs that could possibly be hiring or even a restaurant when she said that she was carrying as well. "OH!" she said, her heart and face soften to the witch sitting across from her.

Hannah, she needs help! She needs a place to work that is safe and then there's the baby... Her hormonal response to the situation took over her brain. "Well, I could of course always use an extra hand," she blurted out. "And all my employees can rent a room her at a discount."

Eileen bit back an offering to sell a discounted Hand of Glory. Something told her that wit will not be appreciated in current company.

She simply nodded instead, stacked her cup, bowl, and plate, and sent them to the kitchen.

"A spare room for the night would be most appreciated," she told Hannah. "I can start immediately. Let me know what needs to be done."

Eileen stood up and adjusted her belt and the shawl over it. At least moving in should be quick.

Everything she owned, she already carried with her.

"Of course, of course!" she said, smiling. "Nigel, love." Hannah had to slide out of the booth as her manager came over to assist her.

"This is Eileen, she's...our new server," she said with some extra cheer in hopes to make the situation more pleasant. Hannah then told Nigel to show Eileen the way they did things as well as introduce her to the house elves. "There's a room on the second floor, third on the left that is available. Why don't you settle in tonight and you can start tomorrow at 10?"
