Summary: Regulus needs some advice about Sirius and Remus is the least offensive of his friends
Regulus had thought about it for days. He had never brought it up with Severus, because the other man would have answered that he was being stupid. Sirius didn't deserve anything, and his brother had already forgotten that he existed. Regulus was sure that Severus was right, and logically, he shouldn't care, but he still wanted some sort of relationship with Sirius, which meant getting him the perfect gift. The problem was that he really didn't know his brother. They had stopped talking when he was fourteen and even before, they really didn't talk unless they were trading house insults. That meant that he needed help.
The Malfoys were not a possibility. They barely knew Sirius. Severus knew him a little better, but Regulus wasn't in the mood to explain why poison was not the perfect gift. He might never convince Severus of that. There was Pettigrew, but the man even looked like a fat rat. Regulus wanted nothing to do with him. The cruciatus seemed a better alternative than talking to Potter, any Potter. That left one man: Remus Lupin.
Regulus hadn't known that Lupin was a werewolf, not back in his time. Lupin had always been the quiet, least offensive one. At a point, it had become the one Severus had been obsessed with. Regulus had never understood that one, but history explained a few things. Severus must have found out in school. Of course, the fact that Remus was a half-blood beast and still preferable to all of Sirius' other friends didn't say much about his brother's taste in friends, but that was what Regulus had to work with. Taking a quill he sent a message.
Dear Mr. Lupin,
I am certain that you will be as surprised to receive this as I am to write it. I find myself in need of some assistance with regard to my brother. I was hoping that you could give me some time and assistance. I shall be happy to meet you for lunch at Number 9 in Diagon Alley. Consider it my treat for the help you'll provide me.
Let me know if it is acceptable, and of a suitable time.
Regards,
Regulus Black
