WHEN: Lunch
WHERE: Hogwarts, Gryffindor table / St. Mungo's
WHAT: Lily & Al use the two-way mirror to talk to James while he's in St. Mungo's.
"I don't know how this mirror works," Lily Potter told her brother Albus.
Until yesterday, Lily's two-way mirror lay at the bottom of her trunk, all but forgotten. When James had given it to her, she'd been so annoyed that it wasn't The Map (her rightful gift) that she hadn't even bothered to try it out. She didn't want to talk to him or see his lying traitor face, so why bother? Now, she very much wanted to speak to him and to see him. It would be better if it was in person. (She couldn't very well punch a mirror, could she?) But the mirror would do. For now. It was a replica of the one her dad used to have, and supposedly it would be able to reach James wherever he was because he had one, too. He promised to keep it on him always, even if she didn't.
"But I think if we just open it and start yelling like...." She snapped it open. "HELLO? JAMES?"

Technically, it was still summer, but you could feel autumn on the wind already, Lorcan reflected as a cloud passed across the sun, making the slight chill of the wind more noticeable. Lorcan was sitting on a wide flat stone near the lake, where he'd agreed to meet Rhiannon to show her Zelly, his fishercat.
He'd already been waiting for a while; he'd arrived early, extremely early. He'd decided that was easier, it gave him plenty of time to get down to the lake, and to coax Zelly down to the lake with him (not to mention finding her in the first place!) Once here, he'd cast a simple charm to keep Zelly from wandering too far off -- concentrating carefully -- and then settled down to wait.
Now, after an especially harsh gust that threatened to pull his jacket half off, he buttoned a couple of buttons, then turned his face toward the wind, enjoying the frenzy. The gust died down quickly, then a fitful breeze started again in a different direction. On a day like today, you'd almost think the wind was alive, and playing games. Or just teasing those out in it?
Lorcan glanced around, checking Zelly. She was crouched a few meters away, watching something on the ground with the intensity only a predator could muster. He wondered what it was, but didn't want to get up to look. Even if he did, he'd probably scare it away before he got a look at it. He let his gaze drift, checking the ground nearby and the grass and other scraggly plants, trying to decide what sort of thing was most likely to make its home here and attract a cat's attention. |
