"Merlin," Amara muttered, uncharacteristically giving way to her emotions, as she picked up a shoe from the floor of her closet. It and its twin had once been her favourites, but the miserable English rain had taken care of that. Rain on my parade, why don't you, she thought, a grim smile twitching her lips at her pun. Ravenclaw she was, she could still gain amusement from such things.

However, the fate of her shoe was anything but a laughing matter. Amara had nice clothes, but both her finances and her globe-hopping tendencies meant that her wardrobe was quality over quantity. She made each item stretch further by clever use of accessories, upgrading them with each season's fashion by purchasing a new purse and a scarf in this year's shade. Careful use of protective charms meant that these shoes had stood her well since her sixth year in school, but like most other things English in her life, the weather here had put paid to that. "Don't be so melodramatic," she murmured to herself, then set about re-evaluating her outfit.
