Iona won't let the currents drag her away. ([info]cutesy) wrote in [info]bravenew_rpg,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:2023: 11/november, character: iona bradley, character: joshua ives

WHO: Joshua Ives and Iona Bradley
WHERE: Hufflepuff / Abandoned Potions Classroom
WHEN: November 3rd / Evening
WHAT: Josh's Birthday Surprises!
RATING: PG-13/R (mild nudity, snogging)

Anxiety over whether Josh would be happy or not about this had flooded her head all day. What if he'd just wanted some loud, drunken fete with his friends and something more subdued and intimate wasn't going to make him happy. She'd been second guessing her whole plan for days. Maybe she should have just let other people take over and throw some massive party that she'd feel obligated to go to because she was his girlfriend but uncomfortable in. She'd gone to Brooke prior to slipping up the stairs to the boy's dormitory just to see if she could offer anything to help get her nerves down. The solution had been two shots of something that tasted horrible. Her head wasn't racing as much once it started to settle in though and she was certain that she could hold it together long enough to pull it off.

She knocked at the doorframe. Entering without knocking was something she only did in the middle of the night when she wanted to slip in and cuddle or she was with Josh. It wasn't late yet though and she wasn't precisely sure who all might be in there. She certainly didn't want to risk walking in on someone in the middle of dressing. There were some things in life that she did not need to see and Arthur Delving's naked bum was one of them. She'd seen more than enough of the male anatomy in that dormitory by accident. She was going to keep pretending like she'd never seen anything though. It wasn't like she wanted people to know just how often she ended up sleeping in there. The curtains seriously needed to be thicker though.

"Birthday Boy?" she called out from the entry hopefully. Merlin, she hoped he was in there and hadn't gone off elsewhere. She generally knew his schedule during the week. He ought to be getting ready for rounds. She hadn't exactly told him that she'd switched his rounds yet. She hadn't told him anything other than she was claiming him before his rounds! He hadn't been acting like anyone had slipped up and told him either. She inhaled deeply. This could work. She could pull this off. She could make his birthday special. Her hands were mostly empty except for a black scarf. He couldn't be taken to the secret location without a blindfold after all and she knew better than to try and put something with girly colours on him. The gifts and cake were already stashed at that location. All she had to do was get Josh there.

So far, his birthday had been pretty quiet, which was fine by his standards, especially considering the state of his voice. He had attempted to sort the pitch out, but after Lucy had managed to vanish her vocal cords (a matter best left undiscussed), he had quickly stopped and had taken to thinking manly thoughts all day long, in the hope that would deepen his voice. The squeakiness was gradually wearing off, leaving his voice all over the place. Christ, it really was like going through puberty again.

Much as he was loathe to deny Luke his amusement, Josh had taken to answering in monosyllables -- or, better yet, grunting. He'd rather sound like an ape than a girl. His plan was to sleep it off tonight (after his rounds) and hope that things sounded a lot more even, and deeper, in the morning.

All in all, one of the better birthdays.

Then again, as Rhys had surprised him by charming Sonic bright blue, Josh couuldn't really complain. He had a blue hedgehog. His life was possibly complete. All he needed now was a birthday snog -- not from Rhys though.

He was just pulling his shirt back on for tonight's wanderings when Iona started calling for him. Leaving his shirt unbuttoned -- hell, if everyone at the party had seen him in his boxers, then Iona deserved a glimpse as well -- he wandered over and leaned on the doorframe, looking down into Iona's eyes for a full ten seconds before leaning down and kissing her. It was a much better greeting than a potential helium hello.

Seeing Josh with shirt unbuttoned wasn't exactly a new thing for Iona. She'd seen him without it before when she had spent the night or when they were feeling particularly frisky. It still made her smile though. While she did not have any particular interest in seeing his roommates half-naked, his unbuttoned shirt was a nice touch. She returned the kiss for a full minute against the door frame, assuming his roommates were not around. If this was the way she was going to get kissed on birthdays, he could have a birthday more often! She didn't honestly care if people were watching at the moment strangely enough.

There was a certain level of staying on task that was required though. As tempting as it was to allow herself to get distracted, birthday snogging would come later. She knew Josh wasn't going to argue that. She begrudgingly knew, she needed to button up his shirt and get the plan into motion for now though. She put a hand on his chest for a moment, settling her thoughts and gazing upwards toward him. She was little punch drunk from kissing but she could stick to the plan. She could stay on task!

"I lied to you," she informed him cheerfully, as she let her hand slide downwards to work on fixing the buttons. She had to straighten him up enough they could move to the secret location without people thinking this was some sort of kinky game. Detention was probably not on his birthday wish list. "I'm abducting you for more than the few minutes before you rounds. Rachel is covering it. We've had it set up for weeks. Rhys knows all about it. You can thank him later. You just have to cooperate and not complain. Do you think you can be a good sport about me spoiling you on the birthday?"

Josh was being quiet. Iona hadn't really seen him since sometime in the afternoon though. She hadn't been found out about the choir stuff yet. She'd been too busy setting things into motion to read the journals. Maybe if she had, she might have thought more of it. She just thought he was being especially pleasant and quiet. She never complained when he was in a good mood. She wasn't going to start now.

She offered him another big smile, raising the blindfold with one hand teasingly.

"This is part of the deal. You can't take it off until we get where I'm abducting you to and if I catch you sneaking a peek there will be consequences. Good behavior has rewards though. Maybe more of this," she told him carefully before offering another kiss. Okay, so she wasn't blindfolding him quite yet but HEY she was making progress by buttoning up his shirt, right?

Josh had been expecting to pull Iona down into his bed and spend a good ten minutes kissing her -- and if he was late to his rounds, so be it. He definitely hadn't expected not to be doing his rounds. He eyed her suspiciously for a moment, before breaking into a grin; she must have been planning this for a while! And she even managed to get Rhys to keep his mouth shut. Now that was an achievement.

He cleared his throat (voice: behave!) and nodded. "Aye, Ah think Ah can dae tha'." Though his voice wasn't completely stable, at least it wasn't rocketing up into operatic notes. It just sounded as though he might be losing his voice a little, going hoarse from all his drunken shoutings. That was a better explanation, and seemed far more macho

Eyeing the blindfold, he gave Iona a dubious look, before shrugging and admitting defeat. If that's what she wanted, then he wasn't going to argue. He was happy enough knowing he wouldn't have to do his rounds tonight. Iona had managed to get him out of them, so he was happy to trust her and go along with whatever scheme she had going on.

Iona stopped still for a minute at his voice. Was he coming down with something? It was a hitch in her plan if he was. Maybe he was being so nice because he was ill. What if he had a fever or something? She pretended like she was preparing to cover his eyes with the scarf blindfold so that she could check his head. He didn't feel feverish. Maybe he'd just sang too hard at chorus or something. She wasn't exactly sure if that was possible but she supposed anything was possible.

"Thank you," she told him for his cooperation. She raised the scarf to cover his eyes, hands reaching to tie it at the back of his head. She didn't want to make it too tight but she didn't want to make it too loose. She just wanted to make sure that he couldn't peak. She wanted to have some dramatic effect. There was only so awesome you could make random rooms in the castle after all. "Do you see anything?" she asked moving a hand over where his eyes were, asking just to be safe. He could lie if he wanted but she trusted him.

He was going to need to trust her too. She'd rationalized that the stairs might be a bit tricky. Once he got him out of the common room and into the dungeons it shouldn't be too hard though. She could barely go without tripping over things herself on a regular basis. She was going to have to concentrate her best to not let him get hurt on the way. She could do it though. She slipped a hand into his once she was certain that he couldn't see and took a few steps. She'd have to be slow and steady but she'd get him where he needed to be. "You're going to have to trust that I won't get you killed on the way," she told him simply. "I'll navigate for you."

And she would with every step, every turn - she was going to let him know and walk him through it.

He allowed Iona to blindfold him and shook his head when she asked if he could see. He wasn't lying, he literally couldn't see a thing. It was an interesting feeling, trying to walk down the stairs into the common room, guided only by a hand and words of encouragement. It was as he was clambering out of the common room that he decided blindfolding him whilst he was in the corridor would have been an easier choice, but too late now!

It was disconcerting, moving through god knows where without being able to see in front of him; he was walking slower that usual, careful in how he placed his feet, but he trusted Iona not to let him fall. He hoped, anyway. "Are we there yet?" he asked, half jokingly.

Iona had intentionally gone with a room in the dungeons because it wasn't far from the common room. It was an old potion's classroom that had apparently fallen prey to Professor Pott's love of explosions. There had been a thick layer of dust when she'd stumbled upon it during rounds. In fact, she'd accidentally brought Josh there after the dance. It wasn't as if they'd been paying that much attention to their surroundings anyways though. She couldn't remember much of anything other than being warm against him and the way his mouth had felt against hers that night. That was a positive memory.

She had taken the time to remove the dust, move some tables - bring comfortable pillows and blankets so they could pretend they were somewhere else entirely if they wanted. She helped him get into the room, laughing as he asked if they were there yet. "Yes, we're here but hold on," she told him warning him to not remove the blindfold yet. She still had to do a few last minute things before he could see the room. "You just stand right there for a second. I promise, you'll get to see soon."

She took a minute to open the box with the chocolate birthday cake and light the candles she'd already placed inside of it. It wasn't quite Aisling's chocolate cake but she had put an honest effort into it. There were a few neatly wrapped boxes next to it and butterbeer charmed to stay cool. She secured the door and hit the lights off smiling as her favourite thing about the room came to pass. Whatever had exploded in the room glowed in the dark.

"You can take your blindfold off now," she told him reaching out to touch his arm, so he'd know that she was still there and that it was okay.

He stood still, his hands in his pockets, as he waited for Iona to finish whatever it was she was preparing. He hadn't expected this much fuss at all, and was still partially in shock from being abducted like this. It was a good shock, he reckoned; hell, he might even go so far as to say he was excited. He hadn't done anything major for his birthday since the fancy dress party his mum had thrown for his seventh birthday. That had been a good birthday. He had been the best damn spaceman Peterhead had ever seen.

Pulling the blindfold off on Iona's instructions, he let his eyes adjust. The room was dimly lit, with most of the lighting coming from... the walls? He stepped forward and looked around the room; all the walls were mottled with an eerie splattering of glowing-something. A smile was quickly growing on his face, widening into a grin as he noticed the flickering candles of the birthday cake and the collection of cushions.

"Ione." He turned to face her and looked down at her, utterly speechless. Holding her waist, he picked her up and swung her around a full circle, before putting her down again and cuddling her close. "You are unbelievable," he muttered into her ear, kissing her neck.

Josh said he didn't want anything big for his birthday. He didn't want her to spend money. Iona had known better than that though. She wasn't daft enough to think that she could get away with not properly celebrating! Sure, she'd had doubts about whether she'd gone about it the right way but seeing the look on his face more than made up for any of those doubts. She knew she'd finally gotten something right.

She couldn't help but giggle a bit when he swung her around . She liked it when Josh got spontaneous and goofy. The fact he followed it with sweet flattery and kisses to her neck didn't hurt either though. "I couldn't let anyone out do me on your birthday," she confessed outloud, hugging tightly to him. She was glad the candles on the cake were the magical sort that weren't going to melt all over the cake because they were getting distracted. How could she possibly resist stealing more kisses from him at the moment? She reached a hand up to tilt his chin before leaning upwards on her toes toward him, smiling when her lips were inches from his.

"Do you want to make a wish or would you like to ...," she asked him teasingly letting the question trail off incomplete. There were presents. Cake. Drinks. But they were the only party guests so it wasn't like they had to rush anything. She wanted to kiss him, so she was going to kiss him. It was as simple as that. She wasn't exactly sure what was going on because it certainly wasn't planned but she just couldn't get enough of him at the moment. There was certainly something in the air. She liked whatever it was a lot though. Her presents were sort of lame in comparison to the room and the cake anyways in her opinion.

He was still in shock from the surprise -- how had Iona kept this all hidden from him? -- and had no idea how to thank her, so he pulled her close to him. Holding her face in his hands, he kissed her as slowly and as passionately as he could. His hands moved down her neck and her sides to grip her hips tightly, before slowly pulling back from the kiss.

Resting his forehead against hers, he looked into her eyes and slowly ran his thumb down her jawline, just taking in her features, dappled with light from the gently glowing walls. He let himself just stand there (albeit with knees slightly bent, to even out the height difference), holding his girlfriend and not allowing himself to worry or stress about anything.

Straightening up suddenly, he broke eye contact before he allowed himself to fall too deeply into a stupor and cleared his throat. "So. Presents, aye?"

That wasn't exactly a birthday wish.

Iona couldn't help but grin either way. It was pretty typical for him to think about presents when he'd be so insistent that she didn't need to get him anything. She was glad that she had managed to come up with some ideas. She let go of him, long enough to move back to the stack of presents, sorting through them trying to remember the order of which she'd decided to let him open them. Goofy, sentimental - where did she start first?

"Read your card," she ordered quietly, handing him over a homemade card that was little more than folded coloured paper. She'd kept that part simple. He could read that much while she made up her mind on the order of the presents. She was still second-guessing that much. She watched him out of the corner of her eye as he read the card.

Maybe the slightly materialistic gift should go first. None of the boxes were that big but this was perhaps the biggest of the bunch. It had some sentimental value. She'd gone for practical sentiment here though. Hopefully, he'd find humour in it. She wanted to give him something he could wear like her ring. She didn't want to do jewelry though. She was afraid she'd end up picking out something too girlie. She went for a nice leather belt. A belt itself would have been lame though. Luckily she had a mother who knew a thing or two about etching things. Iona had suffered an embarrassing letter home but the deed was done. Etched firmly on the inside of the belt was a sentiment only Joshua Ives would ever be aware of: "Now I can always be wrapped around your waist."

It wasn't quite as formal as a claddagh but it was something. If he could survive that gift, she might be willing to share the others. Hopefully, he'd find some humour in it as well. She was trying to be clever and slightly romantic.

"That's the only thing I spent any real money on. Everything else is homemade, so you don't have to lecture me," she told him honestly.

He sat down on the collection of cushions, reading the card by the soft glow of the cake. He was tempted to blow them out, but he liked the atmosphere they gave to the place. It was pretty romantic, if he was going to be honest with himself.

Smiling as he read the card, he propped it up in front of the cake and pulled Iona onto his lap as she handed him his first present, so her back was mostly against his chest. He unwrapped the present he'd placed in her lap, nuzzling her neck as he did so. The belt was unexpected, but practical. You could never have too many belts. He didn't notice the etching until he was turning it over in his hand; he stretched it out and read it slowly, murmuring the words allowed against Iona's neck.

Kissing her pulse point, he folded the belt and placed it down beside the card. "You spoil me," he whispered into her ear, nibbling gently at the lobe.

"Get used to it," she told softly in response to his degree. She might spoil him but she liked making him happy. She liked how it felt knowing he felt good and cared about. She knew how he felt sometimes and really she wanted to counteract all of that. She wanted him to know just how important he was to her. Even if he had his doubts sometimes, she wanted him to have something tangible to hold onto. She'd gone the extra mile. He'd never be able to deny it.

This was like Christmas, New Years, Easter and Birthdays all in one for her though. It wasn't even her day. Selfishly, she liked this method of unwrapping present though. She'd never quite done anything like this before but it was certainly pleasant being so close to him, feeling his breath at her neck, leaning into him -- she had to reach a bit to grab the other two gifts but honestly, she didn't have to reach that far. It was okay.

She pulled them into her lap, moving his hands on top of the next one to open. The first of the two contained a 'coupon book'. A corny idea at best but she'd known other girlfriend's in the past who had made them for their boyfriends. It was a cute idea to give him options of things to do. There were things to claim in the future. Sure, he didn't actually have to use them. Half the things in it, she'd do without the use of a coupon. It was just something cheap and cute. She'd even gone to the trouble of numbering the coupons so he could tell her when he wanted to claim something without having to tell everyone what he wanted. She did have some good ideas on her own. She wasn't completely sure whether she wanted him to read though the whole book up in one sitting though. She'd been presumptuous in some of her offerings.

The box after it contained the photographs that she and Brooke had spent an afternoon taking. They were all of her. She felt a bit silly about the whole idea in retrospect. She'd gone to the trouble of stealing some of his clothes and the Frieda though, she figured she could just go ahead and give them. They were sorted from cute to slightly personal. She and Brooke had come to a no nudity policy and it had worked out. Yes, there was less clothes toward the end and there was some innuendo mixed in at times but most of it was in jest. Every lad needed some nice pictures of his girlfriend though. They were tied neatly with a yellow ribbon in the box.

"Next time, I'll be uncreative and get you something to drink," she said half-jokingly, leaning against him while she waited for him to open and examine those gifts. Perhaps, she ought to have given him less to look at and read in the dark. Glasses might be the next gift she got to give him.

He unwrapped the second present, and raised his brows. "Ione," he muttered gently, flicking through the booklet and glancing at the things on offer. "Ah hope you know whit you're gittin' yourself into." Josh placed the booklet down and trailed kisses down her jawline, slipping his hands into her lap and lightly stroking her thighs. "Ah might have to redeem one now," he continued, brushing her hair away from the back of her neck and kissing it slowly and lightly.

He pulled himself reluctantly away from kissing her neck and took the box from her. He opened the lid and looked inside, curiosity taking hold of him. Taking the photos out of the box, he loosened the ribbon and started flicking through them. He definitely hadn't been expecting a gift like this. He whistled appreciatively and stopped on a photograph of Iona wearing just his shirt (and underwear, he presumed) on her bed and ran his eyes down her bare legs. "Ionie Bradley, you wee minx."

He put the photographs back in the box, and pulled Iona around so that she was facing him, nudging her legs either side of his hips. He tilted her chin up and kissed her tenderly. His hands roamed upwards, loosening her tie and unbuttoning her shirt part of the way. His lips grazed down to plant a row of kisses along her collar bone, becoming more urgent as his fingers continued to persuasively unbutton her shirt.

Iona closed her eyes for a long moment. She did have a vague idea what she was getting into when she'd come up with those things but it was nothing like this. She swallowed hard at the tone of his voice and the feeling of his hands and lips touching her. She was pretty sure she shivered when she wasn't even cold. It was all she could do to nod at the moment. Suddenly, she was the quiet one just trying to think of a proper response to all of it. What was she supposed to say? What was she supposed to do?

She just watched him the other box and let herself be turned by his hands without much trouble. She might have even helped move herself. She settled comfortably in his lap, one leg over each side of his hips. A hand reached out to push the boxes away as her eyes locked on his. She certainly didn't look like a scared little girl and she wasn't even asking what he was redeeming. "It's your birthday. Your minx says you get what you want without a deduction," she informed him before she met his lips, eyes steady on his daring him forward.

She was a far cry from the little girl she had been when they'd first started dating. She used to shy away when he'd try and touch her or get her shirt off. She didn't really do that anymore. She wasn't as shy. She arched her neck for him, let her own hands dip downwards to tug at the ends of his shirt to pull it out of his trousers. She'd played with the buttons earlier. She'd work with them again now. If she was going to be without her shirt, he was going to be without his too. Her curly hair was falling all over her face but she didn't care. "Show me what you want to redeem," she whispered, nipping at his ear.

Finished with her buttons, he slid the shirt off her shoulders and down over her arms, letting it fall onto the floor. He was glad that she was no longer so shy about showing her body to him, but at the same time, he was glad they hadn't rushed things. There was always a part of his brain that kept reminding him how long he'd known Iona, a part that kept trying to make him see her as a child still. That nag came back to annoy him now, but he ignored it. She'd grown up -- he could see that simply from looking at her.

Josh let her unbutton his shirt, kissing her neck as she did so, his hands roaming down her spine and over her hips, fiddling with the catch on her bra. Her fingers against his skin was infuriating him; he wanted to ask for number fifty, he wanted to get laid so badly. But he couldn't ask that of Iona. He didn't want to rush it; he wanted to delay corrupting that final piece of innocence in her for as long as possible.

Both topless, he lay down on the cushions, pulling her down on top of him. "Ah want to hold you in my arms all night long," he told her, his fingers working through her hair. "Ah donnae want to leave this room til the morn." He wrapped him arm protectively around her and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Dae you think you can gie me tha'?"

For a fraction of the moment, she thought it might this might turn into more. She was comfortable with what was happening, willing to let it happen. She felt her own frustration at the fact it was not going to though. That she was barely going to get his shirt with his before he'd slow the plan. There was nothing more than the familiar intimacy for touching and kissing but there was something new to this. For half a second, she'd felt it. There was an underlying urgency in the way he'd kissed her, touched her. She felt bereft letting the physical intimacy stop where it did but she wasn't sure anymore how much longer they would be able to just stop.

She felt safe, comfortable in her arms lying there on top of him. She wasn't worried about his roommates walking in or anyone talking about it. There was always a chance that a Professor or a prefect might have some random reason to need this room in the night. Sure, it was unlikely but there was always a possibly. Iona didn't actually care at the moment though. She was so blissful, relaxed that she would have taken the punishment for it in a heartbeat. This was well-worth the trouble of a couple detentions and a letter home. It wasn't like her mother wasn't already suggesting there was more going on.

"Is that all you want?" she asked contentedly blowing a raspberry on his chest. They could always eat the cake for breakfast. That was her half-coherent though. She was mostly fascinated with how her skin felt against his. The contrast of her freckles with his pale skin. She hadn't really gotten to get a good look at it from the darkness of her four-poster with the curtains drawn. She'd always been attracted to to dark but there was a lot to be said about the dull glow of candles and Merlin-knows-what on the walls. "I think it's safe to say that next time you get me in the mood, you can aim even higher."

He nodded, after thinking for a moment. That was all he wanted for now. His gifts had been amazing -- and completely unexpected; when Iona had only given him a kiss at breakfast, he had honestly believed that was all he was getting -- but he wanted to savour the peacefulness of just lying with Iona wrapped in his arms, no one around to see them or bother them. He needed a break from the dorm; sleeping in this room, wherever the hell it was, would be a welcome holiday. That was all he needed right now -- to lie down and relax, Iona cuddled up next to him. He might wake a few times during the night, but so long as he could feel Iona's breath on his chest or hear her mutter quietly to herself in her sleep, he would be at ease.

Rolling onto his side, he cuddled Iona, spooning up to her in a perfect fit. One arm was draped loosely over her bare waist, his thumb rhythmically caressing her. "Thanks bairn," he muttered against her cheek. "Ah raelly enjoyed today."

Iona gave him a sincere smile and one more kiss to his lips before he slid against her. It was nice to know that just holding her was enough sometimes. Even if she might be catching up to everything else, she liked to know that the simple things were sufficient. It made her worries slip away. Sometimes, she did worry about it. It was the little things like this that let her know all joking and playing around aside, he wanted her as much as she wanted him. She needed this break from reality as much as he did.
