When Harry Potter asked you to join a small operation to get his son back, you didn’t say no. One, because he was Daniel’s boss and he had to do what he said, and two, going on a mission with his hand picked small team was a ridiculously smart career move. Not to mention the bringing down the justice hammer aspect of it all. So, as the small team left to go retrieve Albus, for the most part Daniel was calm, cool, collected and had a very small smirk playing on his lips. He loved being out in the field, really, there was nothing like it. It made all of those hours spent all but chained to his desk, all of those hours worrying about ethics, totally and completely worth it. Daniel took note of everything in his surroundings, even though it was dark outside. The seemingly dingy house down the street was their target and it looked like no one was home, but of course he knew better than that. Daniel did as he was told and cut through a nearby alley so that he could get to the back of the house easily, and as he entered the very small and very unkempt back yard, thinking to himself that this had been a rather good hiding spot to keep Albus. As he got to the door he realized that it was open. Automatically his instincts kicked in. Whoever was holding Albus had fled, and he heard a a sharp noise come from behind him, and what looked like the elbow of a person. So, he did what came naturally to him, Daniel ducked into the nearest alleyway and after the person who was in his mind fleeing.
Kane knew that this moment was coming. Then again, it was all part of the plan now wasn’t it? He adjusted the mask as he made his way out the back, waiting for the moment to strike the team of Aurors that had come after the precious Potter boy. It was just his luck that he was in perfect position to have a little fun with the eldest Macmillan. Daniel. Ugh. Just thinking the name made Kane sick to his stomach. He had to listen to JJ blather on about him, and it was sickening.
Turning quickly, knowing that Dan was right behind him, he shot a curse his way. This was going to be fun.
Dan barely ducked out of the way once the curse had been shot at him, it didn’t hit him, but it did make him loose his footing a bit and he slammed himself into a wall. Using the wall to quickly push himself off he shot off a curse at the other man, as he started after him again. “Stop!” he always felt a little stupid saying things like that, but it was part of the job, and frankly, right now he was so focused in on catching this son of a bitch it didn’t matter. “I’m warning you!” he said stilling running, throwing another hex the other man’s way.
One of the things Kane loved about Quidditch was it kept him in shape. He was able to dodge a lot of Danny’s spells. Not all, mind you, but the majority as he “flee’d”. He’d cast a charm on the mask he wore to disguise his voice, and laughed at Danny’s words. “I’d like to see you try and stop me.” He said as he stopped abruptly and turned. “Stupify!”
Daniel had never backed away from a challenge and he wasn’t about to start now. He’d even resorted to using the Blasting Spell on the walls ahead of the other man to try and trip him up a bit. He didn’t let up, throwing everything he could think of to get at the other man, until two things happened at once. While trying to avoid the Stunning Spell, he miscalculated and the spell winged his shoulder, causing him to fly backwards into a pile of empty rubbish bins. Dan was strong, no doubt about it, but even to the shoulder it weakened him, he was a bit dazed to be honest. Tried to get back up, but his body just felt heavy. Eventually, he was able to shoot off a few more spells in that direction and pull himself up, using the wall behind him. This. Wasn’t. Over. Not until Daniel said it was.
Danny was right when he thought that things weren’t over. They were far from over. One of Danny’s spells tripped Kane up pretty good, but not enough to stop him. It would take a lot more than a stupid little spell to stop Kane Rivers.
He stopped running, turning back around when he heard Danny knock into the trash bins. “What’s the matter, Danny? Having trouble keeping up?” His Irish accent had changed into something vaguely Russian. Kane kept getting closer, finally he was close enough to grab Danny by the front of his shirt; which of course he did. In fact, he helped the young Auror to his feet by the front of his shirt, and pushed him back up against the wall that was behind him.
Danny grunted when got pushed back against the wall, making him feel a little dizzy again. However, he wasn’t about to let some stupid dizziness stand in his way. He went to go shove his wand in the other man’s gut, but he soon figured out that his wand had somehow dislodged itself from his hand. So doing the only thing he could think of to get it back, using the arm that wasn’t currently pinned to the wall he took a swing at the other man, hoping that would startle him enough to let him go so he could get to his wand and finish this.
The punch did catch Kane off guard. But not for long. Maybe it was all the adrenaline rushing through Kane’s veins, but he was barely phased by Danny’s fairly solid hit. “Two can play that game, hot shot.” Now it was Kane’s turn to swing, and he swung hard.
The punch sent Dan’s head back into the wall, he heard and felt a white hot pain in his face, his vision blurred in and out for a minute. He shook his head, though that really didn’t help at all. “You’re going to fucking pay for that.” he said through the fog. He fought against the other man, and finally decided to say fuck it and head butt him and got himself free, but still unable to locate his wand.
The head butt knocked Kane off of Danny, if only for a moment. His vision was blurred, and he was pretty sure his nose was bleeding, but he didn’t care. He lunged back at Danny, his shoulder connecting with the other man’s torso.
Dan let out a low grunt as Kane’s shoulder went into his gut knocking the wind out of him. He went down swinging, literally, but once he hit the ground he knew that he was in trouble. His head turned to the side, he was dazed, but there was his wand right there. He tried to outstretch his arm but it was just out of reach, and with the moose on top of him there was no way Dan could get to it. He felt weak, his whole upper body hurt like hell, but he wasn’t going to stop until he had this bastard down, and he was behind bars.
Kane knew that he was going to be the victor of this fight. Danny was down, and Kane was most definitley on top; both figuratively and literally. He hit the younger man, putting nearly every ounce of strength he had into the punch. But one wasn’t enough. No. Kane felt the need to do this over and over, but it didn’t stop there. Maybe it was Kane’s sheer dislike of Aurors. Maybe it was the fact that, after all of his hard work earning JJ’s trust and affections, Kane always came in second to Danny in JJ’s eyes, which for some reason really just pissed him off.
It wasn’t until he heard voices, accompanied by footsteps, coming around the corner did Kane even contemplate stopping. The damned kid was still alive; a fact which Kane was none too happy about, but he needed to get out of there. He hauled Danny up and flipped him over his shoulder before apparating to the first place that came to mind; the alley behind the Dirty Glass pub. Cam would kill him, if she ever found out what he was about to do, but that was a risk he was going to have to take.
Kane dropped the boy there, amidst the trash bags and discarded boxes and crates. It was sloppy, and it left ends loose, but it would have to do for now. Without even a glance over his shoulder, Kane apparated to his apartment, fully intending on taking a long hot shower and burn his clothing to rid himself of the evidence.
