What I’m knitting: annual scarf for my best friend. She has a chronic neck injury, and it feels better if it’s kept warm.
Normally I give her the scarf fresh off the needles, but this year the yarn I’m using has been handled a lot, so I have to wash the finished product before it’s presentable. It’s Bernat Denimstyle, 70/30 acrylic/cotton, knit two strands together on size 11 U.S. 24" circular needles (it’s a tube scarf).
I looked at some of the specialty “no-rinse” washes, but they’re just non-foaming detergent. Why wouldn’t you rinse out detergent, foaming or not? I’m using standard, easily available non-foaming detergent, Mistolin.
What I’m reading: Anatomy of Dependence by Takeo Doi, recommended by the same friend I’m making the scarf for. Like all her recommendations, it comes with criticism, too. Dr. Doi got ahold of a good idea, then went overboard and tried to apply it to everything. But it doesn’t change the fact the original idea is good.
