I've just started reading Garth Nix's Old Kingdom trilogy - I finished Sabriel, and am 1/2 way through Liriel. Marketed as YA fantasy, I'm enjoying them very much. Not particularly challenging, but interesting & well-written - the kind of books you don't want to put down until they're finished, with interesting & sympathetic characters, and an inventive view of magic. Nothing startingly new, but certainly done with originality. The kind of book I don't mind spending money on!
For vampire books, I just finished reading all of Charlaine Harris's vampire books. Very light but amusing. Junk food books - but entertaining. I'm glad I borrowed them from the library though, rather than bought them. They're not the kind of books that you re-read.
